03/03/2026: For our first time, we weren't disappointed. The meal was good, the private room was nice because there were a lot of us, and the waiter was smiling and very friendly. Thank you for a lovely day!

10/04/2026: We arrived around 1:30 PM and there was only one customer ahead of us. She was checking her order again; they'd forgotten the mayo. Anyway. We placed our order and went to eat. They'd switched the sauces in our dishes; my partner hates the sauce I ordered, so we had to swap our meals. Also, it says "homemade bread," yeah, maybe it's baked on-site like any other chip shop, but the bread is clearly store-bought. The young servers were getting yelled at in front of the customers; the atmosphere wasn't great. On the other hand, the fries were good and the price was reasonable. Note that they also have a restaurant, and we only tried the outdoor chip shop. After this experience, we won't be trying the restaurant despite the good things we'd heard.

15/03/2026: My experience at Hippopotamus Lille met all my expectations: simple, quick, and efficient. Ideal for a meal where you don't want to waste time without sacrificing quality. The service is well-oiled and the welcome is pleasant. I recommend it for a lunch break or dinner without any unpleasant surprises.

28/03/2026: We are so disappointed by the change in management at this restaurant... It's high time they found a decent chef! The dishes arrived barely warm and the cooking was appalling... The pork was still pink, the fries undercooked and cold. The mayonnaise was more like salad dressing than anything else... The experience wasn't very pleasant; our table was near the entrance, and unfortunately, we had to get up several times to close it because it was freezing cold! I used to love this place, but lately it's become increasingly disappointing... To be continued

26/02/2026: After several meals where everything was perfect, and where we thought we'd finally found a place we'd recommend, we were hugely disappointed that day when nothing was right! We ordered the Uruguayan ribeye (€25 for the cut) medium-rare, and what we got was shoe leather! (Not to mention the undercooked fries and the mustard sauce, which was nothing like what we were used to.) We're not usually fussy; perfection doesn't exist, but for the price, the least you can expect is to have food cooked properly (or at least edible). So we asked the waitress if it was possible to change our unsatisfactory dishes. She asked the cook to make the change. On the second attempt, the meat came back less cooked, but clearly not fresh. It seemed rather bloody, but so difficult to cut, whereas usually the meat is like butter! The result was inedible! The waitress assured us that the meat wasn't frozen and that the supplier hadn't changed... Which just goes to show, it's not enough to have "good" ingredients, you also need a good cook! We will no longer recommend this place, after having recommended it so highly! What a shame!
