25/06/2026: While passing through Pont l'Abbé, we discovered this establishment and were delighted. The €26 set menu was perfect from start to finish. The food was excellent, the service was great, and they even brought a misting fan to each table during this very hot weather. It was perfect and highly recommended.
17/06/2026: From our mountain home in Haute-Savoie to Pont-l'Abbé, it's just a short hop (1100 km) and we discovered this establishment quite by chance.
"L'Essentiel" is simply amazing! A warm welcome, friendly, responsive, and attentive staff.
Modern and tastefully decorated premises.
As for the food, pure bliss. Fresh, local produce, expertly prepared and presented with a presentation worthy of a fine dining restaurant.
Regarding the bill, we were taken aback... we almost thought there had been a mistake.
We recommend that all food lovers discover "L'Essentiel."
A thousand thanks to the entire team.

18/07/2026: Every year we come, it's always just as good and enjoyable.
17/07/2026: Passing through Pont l'Abbé, we were looking for a nice, pleasant restaurant with good, simple food. We received a warm welcome and a table was waiting for us. The service was excellent, the Americano just the way we like it, the carpaccio fresh, the Breton sausage with seasonal vegetables, and the mussels, salmon, and cream dish were all very enjoyable. The owner offered to chill my red wine, as the temperature was generally quite high; we always appreciate these thoughtful touches. A must-try! Thank you again for your professionalism to the entire team, from the kitchen to the service.

26/06/2026: My drive-thru order arrived with a different burger than the one I ordered, and my dessert was also missing. This isn't the first time this has happened to me.

21/07/2026: We ordered by phone and picked up our pizzas on a weekday evening. The lady who served us was very welcoming, and the pizzas were delicious and generously topped 🙃 (the mozzarella on the pizzas is divine).
Personally, I had the calamine carbonara, and I highly recommend it.
16/07/2026: A very good experience. We thoroughly enjoyed their pizzas. Fresh dough, generous toppings. We'll be back as soon as possible.

08/07/2026: Such a lucky find. Service was very friendly and they were very helpful as our French is only a petite peu! Lovely steak and pizza and lots more to choose from. Very sleepy little town on our visit so we were delighted to find La Malva open

13/07/2026: They serve a carafe of hot water during the heatwave to force people to buy a bottle of water.
10/07/2026: A deplorable meal, simply worthy of a 10-year-old. No spices, very bland. The chicken was extremely dry. The juices were squeezed from the dish and diluted with water. In years of holiday restaurant visits, this is the first time I've written a review.

28/01/2026: Each time, it takes over 20 minutes for just three paninis, even though there are two or three people at the till and only one in the kitchen. There's no planning ahead, especially at noon, when there's a high school right next door and lots of workers come to eat.
There are no paninis prepared in advance, the Nutella jars are empty, and the cook has to leave her station to go get more. The result: an endless wait.
On top of that, the Nutella paninis are very poorly made; they're overflowing everywhere, with as much on the paper and bag as in the bread (photo attached).
It's a shame, because the concept is good, but without organization and without anticipating the lunchtime rush, the experience is truly disappointing.

25/01/2025: The crepes are really very good...always taste a plain one to see the quality of the dough!!! ..and it’s really a good dough!! ...otherwise the waiter (the manager) is very friendly...I really recommend...it's better to book!!!

The gentleman smokes several cigarettes in the kitchen (we saw above…) does not wash his hands, blows his nose and brings us our plates
