16/08/2024: Cadre : au coeur de Cognac. Bel intérieur.
Service : parfait. Personnel très sympathique.
La carte : suffisante
Les plats : les produits sont de bonne qualité. Je suis moins fan de l’assemblage des saveurs. Toutefois, je mets 5 étoiles car il s’agit uniquement de mes goûts culinaires et il faut reconnaître que la présentation des plats est belle. De plus, le goût et la cuisson de chaque ingrédients sont parfaits.
Les prix : dans la moyenne.
Je recommande ce restaurant car c’est un établissement professionnel et convivial.
13/08/2024: Très bon service, aux petits soins. Belle terrasse. Une carte courte qui garantit la fraîcheur. Un gravlax de saumon un peu trop pimenté. Une CB inopérante, donc sdu cash à retirer. Donc, en résumé, beaucoup de positif et un peu de négatif. A refaire !

04/09/2024: I came across the wrong day. I'm disappointed. Lack of staff, lack of organization, lack of products. Do not come on a public holiday.
Missed birthday. 2h30 for just 1 dish.
Coffee for 5.5€ without even a chocolate or biscuit. This clearly shocked me.
16/08/2024: Superb evening on the terrace at the Distillerie, restaurant at the Hôtel du Chais Monnet.
Exceptional setting on the terrace or in the room. Good cooking, hearty dishes and very good desserts including a Cognac Baba!
Staff present and very attentive. Without a false note for a very fair price given the setting and the quality of the products.

30/07/2024: Hübsche kleine Bar, am schönsten Platz der Stadt. Sehr freundlicher Service, gut für einen kleinen Kaffee oder eine Pause.
22/07/2024: Les serveurs s occupent plus de leurs conversations privés que de faire leur boulot, 20 minutes (avec pratiquement personnes en terrasse) pour prendre la commande + 20 min pour être servis et en plus pas aimable !
A éviter absolument même si comme moi vous êtes un grd père et Qu ils sont à côté du manège.......vraiment à éviter !

29/08/2024: We’ve lived in the area for a long time and have been to this restaurant many times with other members of our family.
We always thought it was an ok place for reasonable meal…… nothing amazing but fairly reliable.
On this occasion we were meeting someone else for lunch but we were the first to arrive for the reservation.
We speak pretty good French but still have a bit of a English accent.
The waiter seemed very busy and it took quite a while until we were able to ask for a drink.
As I was driving and had planned on having a glass of wine with my meal I asked first if they had any low or alcoholic beer….unfortunately the verbal abuse that we received from the waiter was discriminating and quite shocking.
He snarled at us and retorted that in the Charente ‘we only drink alcohol ‘ Apparently simply asking if they happened to have a non alcoholic beer was reason to be incredibly rude and patronising to customers who he obviously assumed to be tourists.
We would have left at that point but as I said we were waiting for someone….the setting outside is lovely , the food is fairly average and not particularly good value but worst of all the waiter’s attitude was really quite unpleasant.
29/08/2024: c'était mon restaurant préféré ! Nous sommes allé y diner en famille pour le jour de mon mariage, très mauvais , j ai connu des cantines de routier meilleure et surtout plus sympathique, à part un jeune serveur qui s'est montré aimable avec nous, on a été aussi bien traité que dans une gare de marchandise ! Cela aurait pu passer si la nourriture avait été un minimum convenable, je ne suis vraiment pas une grande cuisinière et ben eux , ils arrivent à cuisiner plus mal que moi !

I won a trip/competition with my company.
Our room was very nice, although old-fashioned but suitable for the hotel. The waterbed was great and was a sensation back then. The only negative point was the screaming of pheasants in the morning

21/07/2024: Très beau restaurant, plats soignés et innovants, personnel très compétent. Un bémol malgré tout - ne prenez pas l'accord mets-vin, la quantité servie est très faible (2 demi verres de vin et un jus de fruit). Contentez-vous de partager une bonne bouteille.
01/07/2024: Food and service were on point. Nice setting. Great presentation. However, a few faux pas ruined our experience there (we were a group of 16 spread out in four tables of four), and should not be permitted in an establishment seeking to maintain a Michelin status:
1) why would you want to bring a huge boule bread serving with a multi course dinner?
It is unnecessary, filling, out of place and absurd. Guests are filling up on sourdough bread instead of savoring the delicate offerings. Most Michelin restaurants do not serve bread and if they do, it is refined and in small quantity, like a brioche. You lost my respect, attention and appétit when you dropped that kilo of dough on the table. Don’t! Guests left over fed, overwhelmed and uncomfortable. Who thought this was a good idea?
2) the wine pairing was very disappointing. Too small (1 to 2oz, should be 3 to 4oz), redundant (Pinot Noir was served twice as the only red wine option. Really?), the Tokaji was too dry and did not pair well with the dessert. It ruined it. Seems like nobody took the time to taste it and went for a cheaper option.
3) the air conditioning was not working. A huge part of the guest’s experience is to feel comfortable at the table. That was not possible that night. When brought up to the Maître D: " Tell me about it, we were hot too". Ok, but did you spend over $6000 while eating in a sauna?
It is sad because there was a lot of effort by the kitchen to present creativity and excellence in presentation and taste, all of which were overshadowed and forgotten by simple but inexcusable mistakes.
Your staff is young and dynamic, but the lack of experience is showing, and you would benefit greatly by bringing a more mature set of eyes into the mix.

24/09/2024: We visited this restaurant twice on our way through Cognac last week. First visit was for afternoon drinks - why not? and snacks and the second visit was for dinner the following day. The location is lovely whether its during the day or evening. We sat outside on the terrace both visits - it's just a lovely place to relax. The menu is quite small - but that's great in my book otherwise I can deliberate for a v long time. The food was served quickly and was delicious - what more could you ask - great location , easy parking and lovely food - plus its not too expensive compared to other cafes and restaurants in the area.
20/09/2024: La terrasse au bord de l'eau est cosy. Mais c'est tout. Le personnel est antipathique. Nous avons mangé à la carte car nous n'aimions pas le plat du jour et il n'y a pas de menu complet du jour. En entrée, nous avions du cravad lax, une petite portion mais c'était correct. La serveuse nous a dit de garder nos couverts, enfin si l'un de nous prend un plat de viande après, ce n'est évidemment pas sympa. Et si vous mangez à la carte, soit un montant différent du plat du jour à 15 euros, attendez-vous à ce que vos couverts soient changés. Eh bien... puis le « manager » est venu nous dire que ce n'était absolument pas l'intention de changer les couverts. Il n'a même pas répondu à mon explication selon laquelle j'avais de la viande. Quel vantard ! Donc il ne comprend pas du tout.
Le poisson que l'un de nous avait avec un risotto. eh bien, le poisson était bon, mais le risotto (et je l'ai aussi goûté) avait le goût d'une bouillie de riz sans goût. Comment oses-tu faire une chose pareille en tant que chef qui ne goûte visiblement rien avant de le présenter.
De plus, j'ai l'impression que les gens nous prenaient pour des "touristes"... même si nous l'étions, ce qui n'est pas faux et que nous maîtrisons bien la langue française parce que je vis ici depuis 17 ans, ils n'aiment clairement pas leur métier qui devrait être une passion.
Ils ne me reverront plus jamais !
