Ahizpak sur Bidart

We come to this restaurant as a family once a year. Reading the reviews, we noticed comments expressing a similar feeling. The dishes were excellent, despite a slight reservation about the hanger steak, which could have been a little more tender. The welcome, however, was considerably less pleasant. The owner was cold, unsmiling, and unfriendly, whereas her attitude was different with regular customers. We did, however, receive a smile… when it came time to pay the bill. The restaurant experience isn't just about what's on the plate; the quality of the welcome, the friendliness, and the attention paid to customers are integral to the pleasure of dining out. This will be our last visit.

It is a restaurant that I started to compose this review in my head once I start tasting the dishes. It was exceptional! I was a bit nervous reading the recent comments. But honestly, the culinary skills of the chefs were exceptional! They made me dance while enjoying them. The signature starter was such a surprise - running eggs with bacon and walnuts. What a combination! They gave generous amount of bread, which I can’t help only finish half of them. The beef main was generous portion. Not to mention the amazing creamy smell easily catch your attention. The layered potatoes were stuffed with cheese and bacon. So flavorful! The beef was carefully cooked - rare and tender! The sauce matched with it really well. I can’t help but close my eyes to enjoy it. During having my main, I have already started thinking of coming back. I am too full to order dessert. The red wine was also so so good! It is such a high quality of fine dining. The interior is gorgeous too! People mentioned about the service. To be fair, it is such a busy restaurant, with lots of locals dining there, and with only one waitress. I feel sorry for her. The chef served the starter and main himself to me, and helped me pay. This is how short of staff they are at the moment. I do think they are trying their best to serve well. But for a restaurant like this size, I think they need at least two more staff. With the price for this quality of food and atmosphere, I am more than happy to give them a five star!

Ahizpak never fails to surprise with its exquisite cuisine. The service, the ambiance in the dining room or on the terrace, and the breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean all contribute to making a visit to Ahizpak a truly special experience. We'll definitely be back!

A superb stopover, and we were lucky enough to get a table at the last minute. All the dishes were excellent and generous, the view was superb, and the terrace overlooking the view was lovely. A wonderful discovery.

Beautiful view, delicious food at a great price! The vegetarian options (1 starter and 1 main course) were surprising, different from what I was used to; compliments to the chef!

To start out I would like to say that the food in this restaurant is very good. The tastes are refined and they have classics as well as some more innovative food. Unfortunately the service was poor to say the least. While we were a little bit early (5-10 minutes before opening) we greeted the waitress and we were told to use the main entrance instead of the terrace entrance. The main entrance was locked however and we had to wait until it was exactly 19.30 (the time our reservation was). Of course there is something to say, since we were early but it didn't feel very welcoming. When we were pointed to the table however the waiter was friendly enough and took our order not much later. It still didn't feel very warm but alas. The food turned out to be quite great - especially given the price - and we were put at a beautiful sea side table (the view is amazing). You could have a nice evening here but don't expect it to be very warm (written as a non-native, I don't know if locals get treated any better).

Not a great place, especially our table, which was right under the French doors leading to a bedroom where a woman was on a long speakerphone call, and directly above a noisy, busy road, even though two-thirds of the restaurant was empty. The drink service was frankly unpleasant: the waitress was icy and unfriendly. However, the food service was very courteous. As for the food itself, it was very good, thank goodness! Even so, we won't be going back. In this price range, you can find the same thing in much nicer places (environment, service, atmosphere).

Perfect welcome, delicious food, terrace with a magnificent ocean view. A wonderful experience. I absolutely recommend it. PS: Hey chef, couldn't you make your excellent pavlovas a little bigger? 😃
