Au Vieux Comtois sur Besancon

The narrow passage to Vieux Comtois is easy to miss; after passing through a courtyard, a dimly lit door finally opens the door to the region's culinary delights. Upstairs, there's a small dining room with three tables, so almost all the guests head down to the spacious cellar. A mistake, in my opinion, because upstairs you have a view into the kitchen and can observe the work of the owner and chef, who is one and the same. A true original, whose dishes are inspired by the seasons. I had the Boite de Chef: a potato gratin with Morteau sausage and a cheese that's only available from September to April. There was also morel soup and cooked and raw ham on a green salad. Without French, you're at a loss, although the waitress uses photos of the dishes on her smartphone to guide you. To accompany the meal, I enjoyed an excellent Chardonnay from the Jura region, from Maison Gouilland. A truly special place that's definitely worth a visit.

What a delightful surprise! Excellent local cuisine, impeccable service (haha), smiles and laughter galore, a beautiful vaulted cellar with exposed stone walls—I never expected to be so charmed by this little restaurant at the end of a cul-de-sac with its magnificent courtyard (which could certainly use some sprucing up!): a wooden entrance, a stone cellar, a real treat. All for under €20, no reservation required! Highly recommended.

We loved everything about this restaurant! The exceptional setting, the super friendly waitress, the traditional cuisine made with only local products – everything was perfect!

It is with great pleasure that I will return, as the dishes are very tasty and generous, and well accompanied by an Arbois Béthanie wine, served by attentive staff.

A good restaurant where you can eat delicious local cuisine. A must for cheese lovers. Despite the noise and the price of drinks, we had a pleasant time.

A lovely discovery tucked away in a courtyard: a restaurant in a beautifully appointed cellar. Delicious, locally sourced food. Despite only having one waitress, the service was quick. The only downside was the noise; some people must have thought they were home alone, and with the sound of Les Échos, it quickly became noisy.

A really cool restaurant, specializing in potato dishes, but absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, it's not easy to find because of its narrow entrance. But still highly recommended.
