We had a wonderful day with our children and grandchildren for my birthday at La Barbacanne restaurant. Thank you to the entire team: attentive and professional staff, excellent service, and a lovely terrace with a view of the castle. Congratulations to the sommelier for the perfect wine pairings with the beautifully presented dishes. Well done to the chef and the whole restaurant team!

My daughter was doing a summer internship at the Hôtel de la Cité, so we wanted to spend some time as a family discovering this superb establishment and the cuisine of Chef Jérôme Ryon. What a delightful experience, thanks in particular to Thomas's excellent service and the many delicious dishes and treats we were served! We thoroughly enjoyed the all-inclusive lunch and vegetarian menus at €55. I highly recommend La Barbacane, a place steeped in history and charm.

La Barbacane is an unmissable experience located in the MGallery Collection hotel, boasting a unique décor and a superb garden. My group of friends and I thoroughly enjoyed the four-course lunch. The dishes featured exceptional ingredients, showcasing innovative and locally sourced cuisine, accompanied by high-quality white and red wines from the region. Congratulations to Chef Ryon and his team. Impeccable service. Exceptional value for money. A must-try in Carcassonne.

A remarkable setting, attentive service (glasses of wine were replaced with a fruit cocktail at my request), and a three-course lunch menu; however, remembering the petit fours—is that really the point of a lunch? Being served the starter when we were only just beginning our aperitifs was inconvenient for the other two diners. Perhaps just an off day for this otherwise refined establishment...

La Barbacane was the perfect way to finish our holiday in the South of France. After returning our canal boat in Homps, we travelled to Carcassonne specifically for a long lunch here, and it exceeded our already high expectations. The setting alone is spectacular. Access is through the hotel, and once you're shown through to the terrace, you're treated to beautiful surroundings with stunning views towards the medieval cité. What impressed us most was how relaxed and welcoming everything felt. Despite its Michelin pedigree, there was none of the formality or pretence that some people associate with fine dining. The service was professional, friendly and unobtrusive throughout. The food was excellent from start to finish. Beautiful amuse-bouches, expertly prepared courses, outstanding wines and a menu that showcased the region brilliantly. Our group enjoyed dishes including rabbit and swordfish, all beautifully presented and full of flavour. The wine recommendations were equally impressive, with one red proving so popular that we happily worked our way through a magnum over the course of the afternoon. One useful tip for future visitors: decide in advance whether you want the set menu or à la carte, as menu choices need to be confirmed beforehand and the entire table follows the same format. Considering the quality of the food, service, setting and overall experience, we felt it represented excellent value. For around €100 per person including tip, additional drinks and wine, it delivered a genuinely memorable afternoon. A wonderful restaurant, a beautiful setting and the perfect finale to an unforgettable holiday.

Thank you to all the team at La Barbacane, the food was outstanding it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the views. I really enjoyed the vegetarian menu, which was light and delicious. Also the signature menu, the pigeon breast with offal sausage was incredible. I would like to say Simeon, our sommelier was beyond all expectations, it was only his first day and he was such a delight. We will visit again , a bientot.

Grand and smart. Used to have a Michelin star. Trying to get the star back. There’s a mountain to climb. The cooking occasionally provides a glimpse of what was perhaps special years ago. The smoked wild trout, for example, was a fine dish. But mainly the cooking lacked finesse, and one really notices the heavy handed flaws in the very fancy environment (with fancy prices to match). The service was mainly complacent and lazy. Waiters often chatting away together and not looking out for their customers. A ray of hope is the new restaurant manager who is very good indeed. The very grand dining room has a certain opulent charm, but the terrace is a delight if the weather allows. Extensive wine list, and the sommelier gave excellent advice on the local wines. Musak not an issue.
