La Barbacane sur Carcassonne

A wonderful place, impeccable service and a very pleasant setting.

Thank you to all the team at La Barbacane, the food was outstanding it was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the views. I really enjoyed the vegetarian menu, which was light and delicious. Also the signature menu, the pigeon breast with offal sausage was incredible. I would like to say Simeon, our sommelier was beyond all expectations, it was only his first day and he was such a delight. We will visit again , a bientot.

Grand and smart. Used to have a Michelin star. Trying to get the star back. There’s a mountain to climb. The cooking occasionally provides a glimpse of what was perhaps special years ago. The smoked wild trout, for example, was a fine dish. But mainly the cooking lacked finesse, and one really notices the heavy handed flaws in the very fancy environment (with fancy prices to match). The service was mainly complacent and lazy. Waiters often chatting away together and not looking out for their customers. A ray of hope is the new restaurant manager who is very good indeed. The very grand dining room has a certain opulent charm, but the terrace is a delight if the weather allows. Extensive wine list, and the sommelier gave excellent advice on the local wines. Musak not an issue.

We had lunch there (€55). Water, two glasses of wine, and coffee were included. Amuses and petits fours were also served. Excellent menu, excellent service. In short, a real treat! They even added a little something extra for the birthday we were celebrating that day. Moreover, the setting is, of course, magnificent! We will gladly return. Thank you :)

My husband and I had this lunch set. It was three courses, a glass of red and white wine, a large bottle of coffee and sparkling water, all for only €55 per person – an absolute steal! You need to allow about 1.5 hours to finish the set, so don't choose this place if you're in a rush. Also, the menu changes seasonally and includes in-season dishes, so be sure to check the menu on their website before making a reservation, and remember to book in advance. The food quality is high, the atmosphere is excellent, and the staff are professional, polite, and efficient. I highly recommend it for couples; most importantly, the food quality is truly exceptional for this price.

We tried the set menu, was great. Excellent service. Enjoyed having dinner in a medieval setup inside.

In 2025, I gave this establishment 5 stars. I returned several times, always with genuine pleasure. But at this recent lunch, the magic wasn't there. Apart from the tempura quail leg appetizer, I wasn't particularly impressed by the rest of the meal. The steak, which I ordered rare, was served barely pink in the center, practically well-done. I asked for a cheese plate, but the restaurant didn't have a cheese trolley, so I had to let the staff choose for me. The desserts were decent, but nothing special. With coffee, I had to ask for sugar, and the petits fours arrived late. While the setting is still pleasant, this time we weren't transported. I will return to hopefully revise this review.
