La Croix Ou Pile sur Beuvry-La-Foret

It was a fantastic time at La Croix ou Pile! The steak tartare was absolutely delicious and perfectly seasoned; although it was a little more "cooked" than usual (the "searing" the waitress explained apparently took longer than expected), the flavors were definitely there. I absolutely loved the two-chocolate entremet for dessert: you could really taste the natural and authentic cocoa, it was light and not too sweet. A truly wonderful place to return to!

Beautiful setting in the heart of the forest. Average brasserie. The food is greasy with only one breaded fish option on the menu. The downside is that the menu never changes. It features prawns or pan-fried fish that have more breading than fish. The restaurant has three distinct areas: a cozy veranda overlooking the forest, a wooden alcove with large bay windows, and finally, a fireplace area. All with views of the Marchiennes forest. It's great, but a shame the food quality has declined.

We received a wonderful welcome for our wedding anniversary. The meal was delicious, the atmosphere very friendly, and the venue lovely. I highly recommend it.

The wait was far too long, even with a reservation. We waited 15 minutes, just the two of us, before we were even seated. Then the service was slow because there were so many customers. There were too many children, so the babies were crying, and they were constantly wandering around the tables, dodging the waiters. We were put on a makeshift table, and the waiter was putting down his cleaning supplies right next to me. As for the aperitifs, I found the cocktails weren't big enough, and you couldn't taste the alcohol, so for me, they weren't worth the price. For the starter, we had a charcuterie platter. No complaints there; the value for money was good, and the portion was generous. For the main course, I was disappointed. The duck, at €19.50, was overcooked; the meat was too tough, and it came with just fries. The restaurant must be making a considerable profit. The apple-based dessert was very good and light; I recommend it. In the end, considering everything—the wait, the atmosphere, the service, the food, and the final bill of €95 for two—I think three stars is a fair rating.
