Special mention goes to the Bresse chicken casserole, accompanied by the owner's detailed explanation of the poultry's origin and farming practices, as well as the génépi iced soufflé for dessert. In short, a traditional restaurant of the kind we still love to find.

La Coq’Hôte’s name carries both joke and clue: coq, hôte and cocotte folded into one, with the pot in the logo making the point. We reached Bourg-en-Bresse near the end of lunch, hoping for Bresse chicken, and Chef-Patron Guy Labonde still made room for us. That welcome matched a menu built around named local producers, long relationships and classic regional dishes; its former MICHELIN Assiette recognition reads as part of that same discipline. The gâteau de foies blonds turned poultry liver into something satin-light, with financière sauce, green olives and a small quenelle holding the richness in balance. The Bresse chicken arrived in its cocotte, ringed for provenance, then opened at table with tarragon-vinegar lift, mushrooms, lardons and Vonnas-style potato pancakes. Wit, welcome and sourcing met in the pot.

Passing through Bourg-en-Bresse, we booked a table at this lovely little restaurant! From the moment you walk in, smiles greet you, and you're quickly shown to a beautifully set table just for you! You immediately notice the comfortable chairs that will be yours for the meal! The atmosphere is warm and inviting, beautifully decorated with a simple and elegant style! The service is friendly and efficient; we hardly had to wait between courses! Every now and then, the chef pops in, as if to check that everything is going well! Personally, I ordered the quenelle soufflé, which I highly recommend. Good value for money, as we only paid €228 for six people, so frankly, it's really reasonable for a family dinner!
