A good restaurant on Victor Hugo street, serving good beef fillet and duck breast. And an excellent white wine with great value for money - the Authenticus (Plou et Fils).

It didn't help that they first seated the 2 of us at a table for 4, only to move us after we ordered to accommodate a group 4. Where did they put us? Right in the middle of the aisle way. At one point, the waiter's butt was over our table as he took the order of the table next to us. Of course I wanted this dinner to be French-delicious, but it was not. The menu looked so promising, but everything seemed to lack flavor or personality. The escargot came in a small pot with a mushroom cream sauce. The sauce was nice, a bit over salted but nice. The escargot were the consistency of pencil erasers, lacking any flavor. I think they have a large pot in the back just simmering away. The main was a rolled pork loin in a sauce which was not bad, just not memorable. The mashed sweet potato side seemed to be more the consistency of baby food. You can eat it, but not to be ordered again. I won't post the photo of my wife's disappoint look at the dinner we had. On the plus side, we did order a bottle of red wine that was quite good.

Excellent, everything was perfect (the welcome, the menu, the food, the drinks, and the impeccable service). We each had two 300g rib-eye steaks with fries and carrot purée, along with a glass of rosé from Amboise and a glass of white wine from Vouvray, and it was a real treat. All for a very reasonable price. I highly recommend this establishment.

A pleasant restaurant with enjoyable dishes. Not high cuisine, but solid traditional fare in a cozy space. Outdoor cafe seating if weather is nice, but a busy area. Service was poor the night we were there, but they may have been short staffed. Not friendly, and not responsive.

We had a very good meal. The dishes offered were varied and tasty. The clientele is primarily tourists and deserves a little more attention. It doesn't take much effort, but it's enough to make it!

06/06/2026: What a shame! We had such fond memories of this restaurant, where we had lunch four years ago. Unfortunately, our experience this time around didn't live up to expectations. For example, the fries in our fish and chips were reheated and not crispy, even though they made up half the dish. Customers who arrived after us were served well before us, which gives you an idea of ​​the efficiency of the kitchen logistics. The service was good, though. I hope this was just a one-off, because it's a shame to tarnish such a great memory, especially given the wide variety of restaurants in Amboise.

Le Lion d'Or

15/05/2026: We had dinner at this excellent restaurant in Amboise. I wasn't sure what to expect, as I'm a bit wary of overly enthusiastic reviews. But there's no doubt these are entirely deserved, and I'd even say I'm surprised they don't have at least one Michelin star. I tried the pea velouté. And I absolutely loved it. The composition, as described, seems complicated, and one might even think it's perhaps too much. But no, the palate isn't fooled; everything is there. The delicate flavor of the peas is enhanced by the crisp notes of the goat cheese bavarois, the texture of the small pieces of smoked bacon, and the slightly acidic touches of pickled onions. I won't go into detail about each dish, it would take too long, but one remarkable thing about Chef Stéphane Delétang's recipes is the satisfaction you get from discovering that every ingredient described is present in his dishes. I would also like to congratulate the pastry chef for his beautiful and incredibly delicious desserts. We thoroughly enjoyed his chocolate and hazelnut financier and his strawberry bavarois. Both are so tempting you want to devour them too quickly, and you find yourself thinking, "Hmm, I could really go for another one!" Finally, there's the impeccable service: friendly, smiling, and attentive. Madame Delétang takes such good care of her customers, quickly and with a smile, that you can't help but want to return as soon as possible. Looking forward to our next visit!
