Le Bistro d'Augustin sur Carcassonne

Restaurant in the center of Carcassonne. Convenient to the train station. Excellent value, among the best in the area. Good service overall. Generous portions of mussels and fries. Only negative: the screen outside the restaurant offers unlimited mussels for €9.90, which isn't listed on the paper menu inside. We only noticed it on the way out. Excellent and generous desserts! Recommended!

A very beautiful setting with pleasant service. The food was a bit disappointing; the country salad was too sparse—just bacon and gizzard on top. The mussels were very dry. Please put some lubricant on the door where the servers pass and on the doorbell; it's annoying. Thank you in advance for next time.

It's a large restaurant. In a stylish Haussmannian building. We ate there as a family. The food was good.

Passing through town, we chose Le Bistro somewhat randomly, but were nonetheless drawn in by the facade. We received a very warm welcome. The waiter was very pleasant. We opted for the dish of the day, stuffed veal rolls with porcini mushrooms. It was delicious. The prices were reasonable. The dining room is spacious, evoking a bygone era, and beautifully decorated for the holiday season. In short, we enjoyed our meal.

I was on a trip to the town a few days ago, and we went there for lunch since I was with a tour group and the meal was pre-arranged. They told us the first course would be a salmon toast, and honestly, it wasn't a toast at all. It was a slice of toasted white bread with smoked salmon at the bottom, a couple of lettuce leaves, and a piece of tomato as a salad. They don't know how to make a proper toast or sandwich. They changed my second course because I couldn't eat meat, and they gave me a French omelet, which was raw, the egg half-cooked, and a kind of zucchini frittata on the side that was awful. For dessert, they served us a brownie with a yellow liquid that I suppose was melted vanilla ice cream, but it was bland. The ice cream is usually served in a full scoop, and the brownie was very soggy. I left hungry. Out of curiosity, I glanced at the menu, and it was all in French. They don't offer a menu in Spanish and English for tourists. The waiters were very nice and spoke to me in Spanish, except for one young waitress with curly hair who was rude and refused to understand. The space was awful, very small, with bistro-style tables crammed together, so they couldn't be moved, which is poorly designed.

Great bistro! The food is simple and delicious. The setting is superb, typical of brasseries of that era.
