Le Chaudron des Gones sur Carcassonne

We booked a table at Le Chaudron. The place is away from the rather large crowds for this September weekend. The shaded terrace is pure bliss, the staff are very friendly, everything is unpretentious, the menu is very good too, the shepherd's salad is delicious and generous. In short, pure bliss, plus the fact that it's right in the heart of the city. A well-regarded address, recommended in our case by locals from Carcassonne...

Absolutely delicious food and extremely good value. The service was rather chaotic as everyone seemed to arrive in a very small space of time.

Food was good. Original duck was horribly overcooked but they quickly fixed it for me. Very very warm during that evening. They could do with a fan just for some airflow. As soon as we left we cooled off.

I loved the meal and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The only thing I didn't appreciate at all was the fact that you literally have to wait an hour and a half to be served. My family and I arrived at 7:00 PM, ordered at 7:10 PM, and were served at 8:30 PM. The wait was ridiculous.

We had a wonderful dinner at Le Chaudron Restaurant. After travelling quite a bit around France, it was such a pleasure to find a restaurant with a truly relaxed, grown-up atmosphere. The tables are comfortably spaced, so you never feel as though you’re sitting in a canteen, and the lovely garden, soft background music, and peaceful setting made the evening especially enjoyable. And then there was the food — absolutely delicious! Everything was beautifully presented, and for us, it was a level above much of what we had experienced during our travels in France. The waiters were attentive, friendly, and very efficient without ever being intrusive. A lovely place to enjoy a really good meal in a calm and elegant setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening and would happily return.

The atmosphere was beautiful and the environment comfortable. I ordered a local specialty, braised duck and beans in a clay pot. The foie gras was melt-in-your-mouth tender and incredibly flavorful.

We had a lovely time; the shaded terrace was very pleasant and the staff were truly charming. The service was a little slow, but we weren't in a hurry. The dishes were rather disappointing compared to the reviews we'd seen, especially the cassoulet, which was sparsely filled and very salty for my taste, and the confit, which was a bit too dry.
