Le Jardin des Consuls sur Sarlat-La-Caneda

We were strolling down a small alley looking for a restaurant for dinner when a woman approached us and showed us the menu. She began by explaining that their products were French and that it wasn't a tourist trap with EU-sourced goods like some of their competitors. She then invited us to explore the courtyard where the tables were set up. We did, and, I must admit, the setting was quite pleasant. So we decided to sit down. The menu is fairly similar to those of other restaurants in the area, with a good selection of local products, which is exactly what we were looking for. As for the food, it was decent overall, but not exceptional. We enjoyed some dishes, others much less so, and unfortunately, we weren't truly won over. A minor drawback was the service: we had to ask five times for a simple carafe of water before finally getting it… And above all, be careful when the bill arrives. Two set menus are offered, one at €26 and some change, and the other at €34 and some change. We ordered one of each, but we were ultimately charged for two €34 menus. Looking more closely at the menu, we also noticed that some dishes were included in both (in our case: salad, duck confit, walnut cake…). Unfortunately, we realized this too late to point it out while we were there. It's a shame, because I think we ended up in a typical tourist trap. In the end, with this mistake on the menus, the bill seemed particularly steep: €150 for 2 adults and 2 children. We were therefore expecting better value for money. A rather mixed experience: a pleasant setting, a commitment to local produce, but food that didn't particularly impress us, a few service issues, and above all, a bill that left a slightly bitter taste. If you decide to go, be sure to check your bill carefully before paying.

An unexpected stop, but not disappointed! The dishes were delicious, beautifully presented, generous portions, and served promptly. The staff was very welcoming and friendly throughout the meal. Special mention for the magnificent terrace, which offers a perfect and unique setting. We loved it! A great place that we highly recommend. P.S.: Grumpy people and self-proclaimed food critics, move along or just relax for 5 minutes and enjoy!

The food was bland and poor quality for the price. The desserts were small and didn't look homemade.

We had a wonderful time. The service was quick and efficient, the waiters were very friendly and humorous. The atmosphere in the courtyard was lovely, and they welcomed our two dogs. As for the food, it was impeccable. The duck breast Rossini was excellent, as was everything else (honorable mention for the house wine). I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to try Périgord specialties.

It's very pleasant to eat in the courtyard. The setting is absolutely charming. A good menu, and the service is quick and friendly. The person behind the counter is very responsive and attentive, helping with service while also being at their post to take payments. 👍🏼 There are set menus and an à la carte menu, and the restaurant is located in the heart of Sarlat's charming little streets. This is convenient for strolling before or after your meal. The food is very good, and the portions are generous. Just a slight lack of "truffle" or "porcini" flavor in the sauce... and yes, when you come to the Périgord region, this is an important point for tourists 😊. And the €9 Americano was a bit skimpy; once the orange, lemon, and ice cubes were removed, I'm not sure there was enough... 2 minor drawbacks, easily remedied... otherwise, I recommend it, don't hesitate 😉😊

Drawn in by the music, we had a lovely time at this restaurant. The service was incredibly friendly and professional, with no wait at all despite the crowd. As for the food, everything was delicious; it was hard to choose! Many thanks to the whole team, and we hope to see you again soon.

For me, this isn't a typical Sarlat restaurant where you eat well and enjoy good food. My husband had the duck breast, which wasn't local, and the Sarlat-style potatoes were a very small portion and not very good. I ordered the linguine with porcini mushroom sauce, advertised as homemade... well, it had no flavor at all. As for the children's menu, €12 for a steak and fries with no option to switch to pasta for the fries is very expensive! We left without ordering dessert. A bit pricey for what it is. It is, however, appealing because of its lovely terrace and nice decor, but the food isn't worth it.

Excellent welcome/arrival/departure, quick service and assistance, the Sarlat-style slate is recommended, the children's meal was decent, get a table in the quiet inner courtyard.
