Restaurant La Cave sur Montlouis-Sur-Loire

We were eager to try a restaurant owned by the Gueuleton family, and we weren't disappointed, even though the experience started with some frustration. The setting in Montlouis is superb. The old restaurant has been beautifully renovated. Several items on the menu or the daily specials board (which we had to ask for) were no longer available: no baby squid, no andouillette sausage, and the L-bone steak was no longer on the daily special… It's a shame this information wasn't provided when we received the menu, especially the andouillette, which my husband was particularly keen on. We changed our plans. There were four of us, and we started by sharing a bone marrow and trout gravlax. Then we chose a flank steak, sweetbreads, sea bass, and, for me, my L-bone steak was ultimately replaced by another beautiful piece of beef, very tender and flavorful. All of this was accompanied by mushrooms and new potatoes. Everything was generous and hearty! To finish, we thoroughly enjoyed the lemon tart… luckily, they had plenty in stock! 😊 A wonderful discovery, with generous and delicious cuisine in a truly lovely setting. We will gladly return, hoping this time to try the andouillette sausage and the baby squid…

What a place! This cave restaurant is magnificent. The theme is simple: beautiful and delicious. And it succeeds perfectly. The welcome and service are delightful, with very competent staff, like the grill chef who came to chat with us when we ordered, and who helped us choose our wine. What a pleasure! And the food... it's perfect! The quality of the ingredients is as local as possible, and the seasoning, presentation, and taste are all superb! We had an incredible lunch. Perhaps a slightly wider selection of wines by the glass would be a welcome addition to complete the offering.

Our second visit and still a true culinary delight! The staff is very pleasant and the chef speaks passionately about his craft. Our only slight regret is that a digestif isn't offered at the end of the meal. I wholeheartedly recommend this place to all lovers of French gastronomy.

We highly recommend it. We chose the "bon vivants" menu. The ingredients are fresh and high-quality. The countless appetizers, main courses, cheeses, and desserts are all delicious! Regional dishes, traditional home cooking, perfectly executed, and very generous portions... An evening out of time, the luck and privilege of having dined in the wine cellar/conservatory. This unique setting immediately puts you at ease; the atmosphere is welcoming, relaxed, yet chic. We will definitely return; there are still plenty of specialties to discover!

You won't leave hungry, and frankly, it's super good, top-notch, nothing to complain about.

The setting is very pleasant and well-maintained, and the staff is welcoming and friendly. However, we were disappointed by the food. We chose the "Les Bons Vivants" menu, presented as a tasting menu featuring local products, adaptable to the number of guests. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. The portions were insufficient: we had to ask for more meat, because even with very small portions, there wasn't enough for everyone. The same was true for the cheese platter, the pieces of which were barely enough for four people. There were eight of us... The ingredients are high-quality and very good, but the portions really don't live up to the image of a "gueuleton" restaurant, where one expects generous plates. Finally, the wine is good, but the prices are particularly high. The bill came to €648 for eight people.
