La Chicorée sur Lille

I wish they had told me at the entrance that there were no mussels today, because that's what I came for.

An excellent meal despite somewhat haphazard service that made us feel invisible. Otherwise, the oysters were very fresh, the mussels and fries with Maroilles cheese were truly delicious, accompanied by a very good, chilled wine. As for the atmosphere, nothing special.

€19.90 set menu with mussels and fries. The mussels were good, but the fries... we were disappointed; they were way overcooked, dry, and hard. The service wasn't great, but the location and setting made up for it.

Disappointed. The Flemish carbonnade arrived cold at the table. The fries were frozen. I came two years ago and it was better. Now it's much worse.

Brasserie La Chicorée was highly praised in a travel guide. We stumbled upon it more or less by chance and were immediately given a lovely table on the terrace. The menu is extensive and quite varied. Unfortunately, they didn't have fish and chips, so I had to find something else. Oh well, it wasn't a big deal, but it was surprising. We were served quickly and courteously, and the first course arrived quite promptly. The salad with goat cheese was tasty, if a little oily. Thankfully, there was a longer wait before the main course arrived. My burger with Maroilles cheese was delicious, and the fries were good, average. My wife ordered the chicken topped with Maroilles cheese, which was quite rich but very tasty. As the evening wore on, the queues outside the restaurant grew longer and longer, and the staff could barely keep up. Nevertheless, most of the guests were very patient. So, what's the verdict? You can certainly stop by this brasserie without hesitation, but don't expect any major culinary highlights. The prices were reasonable.

Excellent experience at La Chicorée in Lille. The meal was very good, the portions were generous, and the service was quick. A special mention for Mathieu, the waiter, who was very professional and friendly ❤️. He took the time to advise us and make sure everything was going well. It's nice to encounter such an attentive waiter. I highly recommend it and will gladly return.
