12/09/2026: We stopped here twice after visiting the local market. Incredibly friendly service. The lady was kind enough to make my mother an “English style” latte 😂. The bakery bits were all lovely and the espresso was good as well! Nice patio to sit out on in the shade even when it’s very hot.

15/09/2026: ⭐ 1/5 – Extremely disappointing experience I entered Auberge l’Espérance after speaking with the bartender, who told me that the restaurant was open. I sat down, and shortly afterwards a woman came over and asked whether I had a reservation. I explained that I did not, as I had just arrived in the village. She told me that they could not serve me because the restaurant was “full”. What was difficult to understand was that both there were several empty tables, inside and outside. I even asked if I could at least order something to take away, but I was refused again. I was polite throughout the entire interaction, yet I was given no real explanation and no alternative. I cannot say for certain what the reason for the refusal was, but the way I was treated made me feel discriminated against and unwelcome. As a visitor from another country, this was an extremely unpleasant experience. If the restaurant was genuinely fully booked, I would have completely understood. But when there are empty tables, you are refused even takeaway food, and you are not given a reasonable explanation, it is difficult not to question why you were treated this way. I would not recommend this place. 08/07/2026: In historic Périgueux, near the cathedral. Very friendly welcome. Pleasant setting, whether on the terrace or inside. Delicious, well-prepared dishes. Excellent, original cocktails. Pleasant service. We will be back. A must-try for a great time.

29/08/2026: A sweet little cafe serving good homemade food and delicious spicy fresh ginger drinks. The local beer was great too. Excellent service, great decor and the added bonus of meandering cats in the lane.

25/08/2026: I came to Patapain last week for an end-of-day break, but I later learned that, in the standard farms where you buy your food, piglets have their tails docked and their teeth ground down, and sows spend half their lives in cages. Knowing this completely ruins my customer experience. Get involved like Columbus Café & Co and Pret A Manger.

23/06/2026: Wonderful welcome from our hosts and excellent friendly hospitality throughout our 7 night stay. Lovely people. Our room a Superior Studio upstairs overlooking the pool was spotless, spacious and very well appointed. Excellent shower and nice to have the kitchen area with a full size fridge. Outside our room we had a spacious private terrace with table and chairs etc. The restaurant service is very friendly and efficient and the food is delicious. Because we were there for 7 nights, Christophe cooked for us "off menu". Something we really appreciated. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it as a brilliant base for exploring the area. A big thank you to Marina, Christophe and the team!

28/05/2026: These three days at this hotel were very pleasant. The staff are very kind, friendly, and professional. The layout of the accommodation is original, very intimate, and tastefully decorated. The food is very good, and the three people in the dining room are helpful, professional, and fantastic...well done!

The setting is superb, the room comfortable (good bedding), the breakfast plentiful and varied, the half-board excellent (different dishes are offered every day, all very good and generous; the price of half-board is very reasonable considering the quantity and quality). And the staff are very pleasant. A fond memory of the Dordogne.

22/08/2026: Beautiful setting, but poor soundproofing The location is very pleasant, nestled in lush greenery, ideal for unwinding. The rooms are a bit dated, but perfectly clean. The major drawback is the noise level: the soundproofing is poor, doors slam constantly, and the air conditioning is very noisy. Absolutely avoid the rooms at the top of the stairs, unless you want to endure constant noise between 7 and 9 a.m. As for meals, breakfast is very basic (industrial pastries, average cold cuts). However, the hotel restaurant more than makes up for this by offering high-quality gourmet dishes. A place with a superb setting and excellent cuisine, but marred by the noise.

27/08/2026: Oh, I just love this bar. A must visit. We stumbled across this location (up a steep side street), and found a true local establishment of charm and eccentricity. Unpretentious and casual, you order at the bar, sit wherever, and feel at home. The staff was delightful, the dog amusingly unfriendly (but also very well managed in a separated space), and the local blond beer was fresh and absolutely delicious. Don't expect to be pandered to any rudeness tolerated, but instead your good manners will bring out a fantastic local experience that you will remember. Thank you so much for your great hospitality (twice, as we had to visit a second time!)

16/08/2026: We had a small glass of dry white Muscadet sur lie, which went very well with our figs stuffed with foie gras, while waiting for the restaurant scheduled for 9pm
