Confiserie Paries

Saint-Jean-De-Luz
05/04/2024: THE tested and approved Basque cake!!! with delicious dough!! a little crispy and slightly salty: - version with black cherry jam: great! little sweet, - custard version (the great Basque classic): to try when I return to Brittany ;) - original citrus version with bitter orange cream: a marvel! very smooth with a little touch of light citrus on the finish. Smiling and pleasant service! A very pleasant exchange with one of their employees on their Basque cake recipe and the origin of their well-sourced ingredients and also on the origin of the chocolate: the Basque country is the leading land of chocolate in France! “It was through the Marranos Jews that chocolate arrived in the Basque Country. Expelled from Spain then from Portugal by the Alhambra decree of 1492, the Marrano Jews settled in Saint-Esprit, opposite the city of Bayonne, on the right bank of the Adour river. From then on, their passion for chocolate and their know-how spread throughout the Bayonne region." Don't miss it if you come to the Basque country: they have shops everywhere and don't forget to try their chocolates (Madagascar beans roasted in the Basque country!). PS: the Basque cake from Maison Adam is very disappointing compared to this beautiful Maison! super sweet! and service...
03/04/2024: I think these are my favorite pralines 🧡

22/10/2023: Very disappointed ! We wanted to order a coffee and unfortunately the bar was going to close. We understand that the staff needs a break so we apologized but the waiter was rude when he asked us to leave :(
20/10/2023: Very good restaurant, the food is excellent, the price is very affordable, the waiter owner is very friendly and gives good advice, with the bonus of a very beautiful view of the sea, I highly recommend.

La Taverne Basque

Saint-Jean-De-Luz
02/04/2024: We had a great time! Very good food and a smiling and pleasant waiter
01/04/2024: Very disappointed. We took 2 menus at 22€. Starter 2 tiny piquillos and slices of serrano ditto not even a little butter with it. Also the bread was not good. As a main course, the lomo was really not great and the fries were not good and like the starter you don't have to be very hungry. Minimal quantities. The Basque cake was not homemade. The server not very friendly.

Restaurant Bodega La Plancha

Saint-Jean-De-Luz
02/04/2024: Great address in St Jean de Luz! We ate very well there (the chipirons were delicious), at a very reasonable price and the service was really great 😊
02/04/2024: Terrible. We made the mistake of eating later than usual in the area and could only find a table here. They boast of Spanish food and can find paella, gazpacho, tripe and even torrija on the menu. The disastrous paella, from school, totally stale and with hardly any flavor. The shameful grilled fish, two pieces of fish, a prawn (not two, being two people) and some tiny, tasteless mussels. And to top it off, very expensive. We paid €120 for two people ordering a drink of sparkling water and a beer, without dessert or coffee. One of those times when you feel absolutely cheated. The only good thing was the service, the waiters were friendly and fast.
