Block'out Bordeaux
Bordeaux
30/04/2026: A year ago, I left a detailed, factual, documented review with photos. The manager's response? "I'm so sorry... Your feedback really matters. Thank you for taking the time to write." A year later, the same excuses: "We have the quotes in the office, we're waiting for management to approve them. Take the time to write another review to help move things along."
So: 1. HYGIENE: The situation hasn't changed in a year; the risk of being splashed by whatever's in the toilets is still there... Official response: "Yes, you're right, but since the work was done poorly initially, it's too expensive to redo it properly." Everyone walks across the carpets with their shoes on. Studies have shown that more than 50% of dust particles (fecal matter, lead, etc.) come from outside via our soles. 26.4% of insoles carry the Clostridium difficile bacteria, which causes colon infections, diarrhea, 500,000 cases per year, and 29,000 deaths in the USA. Regular cleaning and disinfection of mats is therefore not excessive. It's basic respect. 2. SAFETY The weight room and mats are sometimes a dangerous space. At every session: children play next to bars that sometimes weigh over 150 kg, go under the climbing holds, endangering themselves and the climbers. This regularly creates tension with the children or their parents. Supervision is mandatory.
During a conversation with the manager on April 22, 2026, he had to intervene three times for this very reason. This is a gym, not a leisure center. The mats have holes and have been patched up, and this has already been reported. Nothing has changed; it's even worse than before. Parking lot: hastily patched up with concrete, numerous holes over 10cm deep are present. The holes are barely visible in the dark and make the parking lot dangerous for ankles and car rims. Leaks have returned, despite the "definitive" repairs; a new explanation has been offered: rats. The work was finished over six months ago, but the walls are still not repaired. The mold in the sauna? Painted over. What was supposed to be temporary has become permanent.
3. EQUIPMENT: No new holds purchased in three to four years.
The route setters are doing a real job with the resources they have. But even Picasso would have ended up going in circles if he had been told: "Take your brush, your blank sheet of paper, your three colors, and make a different, interesting painting every day, and above all, quickly." Fortunately, some route setters bring their own holds from their personal collections.
It's fortunate that some route setters bring their own holds from their personal collections. Management seems to be making other investment choices, like a mechanical bull, rather than prioritizing climbing.
4. HOURS Before: 84 hours/week Now: 81 hours/week Loss: 3 hours/week = 156 hours/year
Same price, but 150 fewer hours of operation. No explanation, no improvement in service, and no promise that things will change.
Before 2020: open until 11 p.m. every day, including weekends, and memberships were about €10 to €15 cheaper.
Over 10 years: an increase of nearly €200 per member with this change in hours. If, hypothetically, the gym has 500 members, this represents €100,000 over 10 years.
Today: closing at 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
Other competing gyms close at 11 p.m. or midnight. The Hapik climbing gym for children aged 4 and up closes at 7 pm, and Block Out closes at 8 pm. This is a sports facility, not a children's recreation center, or they need to rethink their marketing.
We can legitimately question the strategy implemented and its consequences for members. Climbers are attentive to the quality of service. Even the prices of food and drinks raise eyebrows: a Coke for €4, a beer at a higher price than some establishments in the city center, despite being located in an industrial area with a view of the Aquitaine Bridge… So what are the concrete advantages of climbing or eating here rather than elsewhere?
28/04/2026: This climbing gym is clearly in decline. The holds haven't been replaced in four years, and we've been climbing the same problems for years... at this price, it's outrageous.
The mats are full of holes and have been patched up by hand (by the route setters themselves), the showers have been hastily repaired, and the steam room smells like sewage... the maintenance and hygiene are far below the minimum expected.
And to top it all off, the opening hours have been reduced without any improvements in return. Accessibility is declining while the overall quality is dropping.
Frankly disappointed. This gym had potential, but now it's hard to justify continuing to go.

21/04/2026: I discovered this place at the end of last week and went in for a drink.
Great atmosphere, excellent service, the owner is super funny and particularly friendly.

Aux Quatre Coins du Vin
Bordeaux
25/04/2026: A perfect spot for wine lovers who want to explore without committing to full bottles. Great atmosphere.
They have an impressive selection of more than 40 wines available by the glass, with three different pour sizes so you can try a little or a bit more of each.
We sampled some really interesting and varied wines. The service was excellent – very friendly and helpful.
20/04/2026: Sorry but I didn’t get this place. The wine was very overpriced and I got one taste and one half glass but the machine delivered the same quantity - for 15 euros. I didn’t think that it was worth it especially as the wine was very mediocre. The staff were very friendly but honestly I won’t be back.

Chez le Pépère

14/04/2026: A fantastic wine bar, just the way we like them: a friendly, welcoming atmosphere where you feel at home from the moment you arrive.
The wine selection is excellent, with great recommendations. Special mention goes to the service, which is truly pleasant and genuine.
Perfect for a great time 🍷
13/04/2026: The bar is very small; we were a little disappointed as we couldn't sit on the outdoor terrace due to the bad weather. However, there is a small room in the basement. Good wine recommendations.

15/04/2026: Excellent!
The pastries were very good.
14/04/2026: First visit and definitely not disappointed.
A warm welcome, a croissant and a pain au chocolat for under €3; both were delicious: perfectly flaky and buttery pastry.
The goat cheese sandwich was well-balanced, with plenty of sauce and fresh bread. It was simply delicious!
At €4.50, it's an unbeatable price.
