24/08/2026: Excellent food, but a bit pricey. The restaurant was empty the day we had lunch. The waitress was very friendly.

23/08/2026: €340 for 5 people, including aperitifs and wine. Four starters, main courses, desserts, and one main course. The appetizer platter was more like a survival meal, and the same goes for the main courses. You won't find any Ricard, Coke, or other commercial drinks. Furthermore, we were swarmed by mosquitoes even though we were in the dark. I strongly advise against going there.

13/09/2026: What a disappointment! We used to come regularly until 2016 because it was a great place. But tonight was a complete disaster: sitting by the door inside, we watched as they microwaved the tasteless dishes. How awful! Everything was deplorable: the aperitif had barely been served when the starters arrived: very ordinary smoked salmon and shredded salt cod without sorbet because they were out of it and hadn't replaced it, so it was very dry and disappointing. Then, as soon as the plates were cleared, the worst was served: boiled octopus, microwaved right in front of us, served on boiled potatoes, and three pieces of fish resembling shark, microwaved and served with ultra-dry rice. In short, it was bad, really bad. I didn't believe the bad reviews from this summer, but I can confirm them. What happened to this once-great establishment? The Gault & Millau 2026 guide is giving me serious cause for concern. Luckily the waitress was nice.

13/09/2026: Excellent, sophisticated, and refined cuisine. Facing the harbor. We will be back.

14/09/2026: A beautifully situated bar right next to the lifeguard station. With delicious wines, freshly tapped beer, and a relaxed atmosphere, it's a wonderful place to enjoy the sunset. Always worth a stop.

09/08/2026: They're very nice in the afternoon but they get grumpy as soon as things get busy... What a shame!

17/09/2026: The staff were so overwhelmed that we didn't stay, so maybe it's good, but we'll never know... We did, however, hear the manager say that they couldn't keep up, so goodbye. Not just anyone can be a restaurateur.

08/09/2026: Pleasant terrace, pleasant interior too, having had lunch there several times, never disappointed by the dishes offered.

15/09/2026: A lovely bakery/pastry shop. The baguettes are delicious and their specialty cake 🎂 "Le Puits d'Amour" is wonderful.

13/09/2026: A bakery that makes great bread and offers amazing sandwiches!

11/09/2026: "The factory," just another biscuit factory, with a bespectacled, white-haired man at the till who wasn't exactly friendly. One visit for me, but not two.

06/09/2026: No tasting, the cakes tasted very buttery and didn't have enough chocolate chips. Not exceptional, I'm disappointed.

25/07/2026: July 2026: The establishment is closed. Let's hope a restaurant professional takes it over and restores its former glory... ---------------------------------------------- A small addition to my 2021 review below: my wife didn't tolerate the meal well (food poisoning or indigestion?). Please pay attention to the freshness of the food...and the cleanliness of the premises. Still hoping that our 2021 experience is now just a bad memory. ---------- In 2018 and 2019, we had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant several times. It was delicious, and the menu offered a wide selection. Unfortunately, the change of ownership has likely also brought a change of chefs: the gourmet menu has been replaced by a small laminated card, the choice of appetizers, main courses, and desserts is very limited, and the presentation of the dishes is minimalist and similar to what is served in large fast-food chains. Everyone (except me, stoic as ever) had finished their appetizers when the bottles of wine and water were finally served (after numerous requests). All is not lost: I understand that the current pandemic has severely impacted the restaurant industry. There is still hope that L'Ecailler will regain the vibrancy we once enjoyed. I hope we will have the opportunity to dine there again someday... but we will wait for glowing reviews before doing so. For now, we are nowhere near that point.

24/07/2026: A warm welcome, though the price-quality ratio might be a little high. The setting is pleasant, and the view of the harbor is fitting, as one would expect on Île d'Oléron. The quality of the food served is good, and the seafood platter we ordered was exceptionally well-prepared. The service was attentive and professional.

15/09/2026: A very nice bar and restaurant, ideally located with a large shaded terrace, good food, and a friendly owner. Musicians often add a pleasant touch of jazz to the overall atmosphere.
