Le Gaulois Sur Le Grill
Barbizon
31/05/2026: Absolutely avoid this place. Extremely noisy, and the service was incredibly slow, even though the waiters were everywhere, but the kitchen couldn't keep up. Was it understaffed?
The food was a huge disappointment: salmon tartare with mustard (or rather, mustard with tartar sauce), overcooked, dry chicken served with a ratatouille that lacked any Mediterranean flavor (the olive oil had clearly been replaced with sunflower oil), and barely golden fries.
We didn't even bother trying the desserts. You can sometimes eat better on the motorway.
30/05/2026: The welcome and service were both pleasant. The rib steak was absolutely delicious! Thank you for this enjoyable and tasty experience!

L'Ermitage Saint Antoine
Barbizon
25/05/2026: From the moment you arrive, the pleasure is immediate: the staff is welcoming, smiling, and attentive.
The setting, decor, and furnishings perfectly blend elegance and simplicity, creating an atmosphere where you instantly feel at ease.
As for the food, I was delighted. The chef brings a touch of surprise and originality to both the seasonings and the presentation, elevating each dish.
Refinement and indulgence are present from the beginning to the end of the meal.
A truly wonderful place that I recommend without hesitation.
25/05/2026: We had booked in advance but were seated on the street side.
Upon arrival, I mentioned that I had booked and asked if it was possible to be seated on the back terrace, the garden-style one, on a sunny Sunday in May. "No, sorry, it's closed, not enough people." Okay, first disappointment.
Then, when it came time to order our food, no "crying tiger" (a type of pastry), even though it was a packed Sunday in Barbizon. What a shame.
We wanted a glass of Saint-Émilion. The waiter told us they didn't have any, the menu had changed... okay, too bad.
For dessert, there were two tarts (lemon or apple). Too bad for those who don't like tarts. The waiter told us there was ice cream across the street...
The tuna tartare was good, but nothing special.
We were expecting much better.
It has a very upscale feel. The location, the prices, and the presentation are all high-end, and the waiters are friendly, but nothing more. The selection is very limited, and the dishes and wines listed on the menu are often unavailable…
As we were leaving, we noticed that the back garden was indeed open…
We ate well, but overall we were disappointed. Considering the prices, it's very overpriced.
Don't expect anything worth the price.

Le Relais de Barbizon
Barbizon
12/05/2026: We had a lovely dinner as a couple at this restaurant, which had a very friendly atmosphere and tasteful decor.
The dishes were excellent, generous, and beautifully presented.
The service was impeccable, perfectly paced—neither too fast nor too slow—with discreet attentiveness from the waitstaff.
Thank you! 👍🏻
04/05/2026: A very good restaurant.
Set menu or à la carte.
Fresh, expertly prepared dishes.
Very pleasant welcome and service.
The calf's head was excellent.
The fish was presented before ordering and plated at our table.
The tarte tatin for two was more than generous.
The mille-feuille was made to order.
Nice wine list.
A restaurant I highly recommend.

La Boheme
Barbizon
19/05/2026: Finally, a restaurant worthy of the name!
Everything is excellent, from the appetizer to the dessert.
The small menu clearly demonstrates the freshness of the ingredients.
Nothing is missing from the table, and the service is efficient.
I recommend making a reservation.
Go there; you won't be disappointed.
13/05/2026: The atmosphere is calm, the service is fast, and the food is good and very tasty.

Creperie Barjole
Barbizon
07/03/2026: A reservation request made the day before was never confirmed or refused, with no response whatsoever. There's no point in offering online reservations if this is how it works. We arrived at opening time for a table of five, unsure if our reservation had gone through, and were turned away. The restaurant was completely empty. The person I spoke to wasn't particularly friendly and offered no apology for the lack of confirmation.
02/03/2026: We arrived as a party of 12, and this clearly posed a problem for the waitress. The welcome was particularly cold: no audible or pleasant greeting, unlike the customers who arrived after us. Her closed-off attitude left no room for doubt. She curtly told us not to sit where we had chosen, then gestured towards tables in the back that she was "going to prepare," without any further explanation or courtesy. A more respectful and professional welcome would have been appreciated.

Bistrot de l'Hôtellerie du Bas-Breau
Barbizon
11/05/2026: I delayed writing this review due to the amount of work involved and my lack of enthusiasm for it.
At €175 per night in April 2026, we were given a room that I can't imagine being rented in winter given its poor insulation.
Since we were only there for a few hours outside of our booked night (for hiking in the area), I didn't waste my short weekend fighting to get everything that was so obviously wrong fixed:
- The room was completely outdated, "luxurious" in the 60s but hadn't been updated since? Never mind;
- Fridge that doesn't cool at all since it's no longer producing cold air (even though it's plugged in and switched on),
- TV screen completely shattered, unusable (see video),
- Rusty/beige water dripping from the shower (which supports the theory of a nightmarish room, a relic reserved only for the summer season we were given; nevertheless, one could wonder when the last cleaning had been done...),
- Freezing bathroom (a cave!) and the towel warmer doesn't work either,
- Toilet that struggles to flush,
- Bathroom door that no longer closes,
- Door handles practically broken,
- We're not afraid of spiders, luckily for us,
- View of....??? Definitely not the garden as indicated in my reservation, but a rooftop adjoining a ventilation system running at full blast on one side and...nothing (see video) on the other (which is convenient, since the window is so old it's a struggle to open).
A real rip-off considering the price (I was asked to pay the tourist tax upon arrival, without even seeing the room). The overall welcome and staff were nonetheless friendly (the bare minimum, given the situation) and did their job to secure parking, which was also mentioned as part of the service. But given the circumstances, it's difficult to judge the quality of service, as the gap between the expected minimum standard and the reality is so dilapidated! (to put it politely). In the lobby, the clientele was 95% Asian (by "rough estimate," of course): I hope the service was better for them! Finally, on a positive note, as far as we're concerned: the bed was very large and very comfortable!
05/05/2026: We stayed two nights at the inn, which had changed hands about ten days prior. Of course, everything wasn't perfect, but the staff's kindness made us forget the minor imperfections. The inn has certainly aged, and one can only hope it will regain its former glory. However, it has retained its charm, and those interested in the history of Barbizon will find reminders of its prestigious past.
The rooms are comfortable without being luxurious. The restaurant menu could be expanded and supplemented with a set menu, but the dishes are well-prepared. The setting is pleasant, and one feels at home there.

Les Pleiades
Barbizon
