08/09/2026: A brief moment out of time.
When I was planning my week's vacation in Seine-et-Marne, and more specifically my visit to Barbizon, I had initially chosen a different restaurant. Unusually, I checked the reviews for that establishment. The poor quality of service was mentioned several times... So I looked for another and came across Le Gaulois. There, the reviews were glowing about the hospitality.
So I decided to eat at Le Gaulois. After my experience, I'm very happy with my choice.
I had a truly relaxing time there, which greatly enhanced my well-being for the day.
I was first greeted by a woman of rare beauty, elegance, and grace. Smiling and gentle, I realized that she was probably the one I had texted when I made my reservation. I smiled afterward because the three young men serving and working the bar also looked like they'd stepped out of a modeling agency! Helpful and smiling without ever being obsequious, they took excellent care of me throughout my meal. I had lunch in a small, covered courtyard, which was also particularly charming.
The eggs meurette were excellent, the beef fillet exceptionally tender, and the homemade fries perfectly complemented the rest of the meal. The floating island dessert with its crème anglaise completed this complete success.
I hope to return before I leave; it all depends on some acquaintances I need to meet before my departure.
Thank you to the chef and the entire team.
05/09/2026: Appalling service. It's hard to even call this place a restaurant—that's what they present themselves as, after all.
The waitress speaks to customers as if I'd walked into her house at midnight and was disturbing her. No respect, no basic courtesy whatsoever.
I've never encountered such terrible service anywhere in the world. If you want to ruin your day, you've come to the right place.

25/09/2026: I experienced a truly timeless moment at L’Ermitage, thanks to its gastronomic menu, imbued with boldness, authenticity, and beautiful local produce. I had never enjoyed a meal so much! The experience was enhanced by a very pleasant and professional team who added their own special touch to make the meal even more delicious! Congratulations on this wonderful project.

11/09/2026: We only tried the hidden terrace of the sushi and cocktail bar! Super cozy alcove, stylish design. Lovely waiter, good sushi. Beautiful presentation. The gin, basil, and cucumber cocktail is as delicious as it is beautiful!! On a Friday at 6 pm, we were the only ones there, fantastic 😁. We'll definitely be back 👍🏼
07/09/2026: September 7, 2026: Well, there you have it, another flawless experience with attentive staff and impeccable service. My mother and I had a wonderful time, and of course, we will return and recommend this establishment to our friends and family, who are still talking about it.
July 2026: Ah, the haven of peace in the magical village of Barbizon: the shaded terrace is perfectly laid out, the cuisine authentic, the chef welcoming, and the service attentive. Only one thought comes to mind: I will return with my loved ones to share this unexpected gem on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest.

20/10/2026: I'm correcting my review following the response. There were only two of us having coffee, and we came on Saturday at 2:30 PM, not Sunday. We didn't see anyone take our order, so other people were also dissatisfied.
21/09/2026: Very well located and has a pleasant terrace on the main street.
The prices might be a little high, but the food is of very good quality and perfectly cooked.
The service is really pleasant.
The value for money is good for such a touristy village.
We will gladly return.

07/03/2026: A reservation request made the day before was never confirmed or refused, with no response whatsoever. There's no point in offering online reservations if this is how it works. We arrived at opening time for a table of five, unsure if our reservation had gone through, and were turned away. The restaurant was completely empty. The person I spoke to wasn't particularly friendly and offered no apology for the lack of confirmation.
02/03/2026: We arrived as a party of 12, and this clearly posed a problem for the waitress. The welcome was particularly cold: no audible or pleasant greeting, unlike the customers who arrived after us. Her closed-off attitude left no room for doubt. She curtly told us not to sit where we had chosen, then gestured towards tables in the back that she was "going to prepare," without any further explanation or courtesy. A more respectful and professional welcome would have been appreciated.

Bistrot de l'Hôtellerie du Bas-Breau

30/07/2026: We love older French hotels and the Bas-Breau in Barbizon is just perfect in its style. Lovingly maintained yet old enough to remember Robert Louis Stephenson, who visited Barbizon and wrote here in 1874 while recovering from an illness.
We had a junior suite, which was sparkling clean, spacious and very comfortable. Excellent breakfast with many options.
Barbizon itself is charming, with wonderful restaurants and many art galleries.
14/06/2026: This hotel is nowhere near the standard of a 4-star establishment. It honestly barely deserves 3 stars, more like 2. It's very outdated, poorly maintained, the pool was broken and unusable (we weren't even informed before our stay), and the breakfast was 100% pre-packaged, yet still cost €21 per person. The staff were friendly but untrained and very poorly dressed. There's a hotel undergoing major renovations right across the street. The competition is going to be fierce.

02/08/2024: Une ambiance de cure thermale avec une salle occupée quasiment que par les résidents de l’hôtel.
La carte qui paraissait intéressante n’aura pas été à la hauteur de nos attentes.
Peu d’inspiration pour le dressage des assiettes, un saumon gravlax avec une salaison mal gérée en sel, un bar hélas trop cuit, seul moment de plaisir, le moelleux au chocolat à la fève Tonka.
Pour des menus à 55€, la quête d’émotions n’aura été au rendez-vous que sur la note.
La situation de Barbizon et ses peintres mythiques ne peuvent pas tout excuser. On peut s’attendre à une autre prestation de la part d’un tel établissement.
J’espère simplement que, comme cela peut arriver, nous soyons venus le mauvais jour.
09/07/2024: Plats savoureux et copieux avec juste ce qu'il faut de variété pour mettre en valeur l'ingrédient principal comme les gambas par exemple. Tout çà servi avec des grands sourires - les deux serveuses sont adorables
