Restaurant Hotel du Cheval Blanc

19/05/2026: We had a meal today with my son and daughter. We were delighted.
The meal was excellent from start to finish. The welcome was warm. The waiter was lovely. What more could you ask for? I highly recommend it. Especially if you're passing through Vézelay, don't hesitate.

18/05/2026: The owner is as unbearable as her beer.
Don't give your money to this hateful, frustrated woman.
She kicked our hiking backpacks (which were in a corner against the wall and weren't blocking the way) to make us understand we had to leave, even though we were still drinking... But we don't know for sure; when we asked her if there was a problem, she didn't answer and just ignored us.
15/05/2026: We have rarely experienced anything like this; we had barely stepped inside and were immediately spoken to very rudely before we could even ask if a table was available, with the question that we had made a reservation and that everything was already full. After that, we were unequivocally shown the door and were not welcome.

29/06/2026: The food was good, we ate well. The dishes were fresh and made daily. The desserts were not.
Unfortunately, due to the heat, there were few drinks and ice creams available. However, this wasn't factored into the rating, as it's one of those things that happens when you're dining live.
It would have been helpful to inform customers about unavailable dishes, drinks, or desserts before seating them.
As for the atmosphere, it wasn't professional. Hearing the staff say things like, "Oh, people wake up at 1 p.m. to come and eat, we could have finished earlier..." was unpleasant and, again, unprofessional!
23/06/2026: A shame about the kitchen service; otherwise, the waitstaff was average, but very good.

28/04/2026: It has to be said that this picturesque place, Vézelay, is a bit run-down. The state of the streets isn't great! Many of the houses and shops are unoccupied and in a state of disrepair! You can tell you're in the last century, the era of Vidocq or stagecoaches! I visited this little town during a trip to Auxerre, so I stopped in Vézelay, which had been a long-held plan. The basilica was under renovation at the time! I didn't visit the inn, so I can't comment on that.
20/04/2026: I didn't use the hotel's services, just the restaurant. I enjoyed the food (including the vegetarian options), however, two shortcomings in the service at our table concerned me. The staff remained courteous and apologized, but offered no compensation.

18/08/2024: Absolument horrible je suis passé au distributeur de Clamecy la dent creuse et les pizza avait le goût de plastique et métal avec une pate horrible et fine c’était presque imangable pour le prix (35€ pour 3 pizza) c’est une arnaque
20/04/2024: L’accueil est glacial, le patron se montre impoli, voire irrespectueux, aussi aimable qu’une porte de prison.
Le personnel se cache pour éviter de servir les clients.
La qualité de la nourriture est désastreuse : des œufs meurette, en provenance directe de chez Métro, avec une sauce insipide, une biscotte brûlée en guise de croûtons, et pas la moindre trace de lardons…
Les plats sont si affreux que même mes pires souvenirs de cantine scolaire sont surpassés !
Le menu prétend proposer des plats « fait maison », mais c’est une pure escroquerie : il n’y a rien d’artisanal dans cette affaire !
Seuls les prix atteignent un niveau remarquable!
