02/07/2026: A memorable stop at Briketenia, a one-Michelin-star restaurant in the beautiful Basque village of Guéthary, France.
Once again, I was pleasantly surprised by how accommodating they were. Even though I called only that morning, they happily prepared a vegan tasting menu and found me a table for the afternoon.
This was also my first experience at a Michelin-starred restaurant where the service was noticeably slower than expected. It was clear they were dealing with a staff shortage, which extended the dinner by about an hour. These things happen - even at the best restaurants - and the team sincerely apologised at the end of the meal.
The cuisine focuses on local, seasonal ingredients, and during my visit it was asparagus and fresh pea season. Both featured prominently throughout the menu, showcasing just how incredible simple, fresh produce can be when treated with care and creativity.
The seven-course tasting menu was €134 per person.
13/06/2026: A fantastic spot, facing the Three Crowns and La Rhune mountain.
Excellent service and delicious dishes that will tantalize your taste buds. The Basque Country on your plate in a dreamlike setting.
So go for it.

07/09/2026: We had a wonderful time! The welcome was perfect, all the staff were smiling and attentive, right down to the thoughtful touch of providing hats for sun protection.
The dishes, from the appetizers to the desserts, were delicious, bold, and flavorful. They arrived quickly, even though the terrace was full.
The view of the ocean and the surfers is superb! The restrooms were clean and well-maintained: a detail that makes all the difference!
In short, flawless. I would gladly return and recommend it without hesitation. After a quick tour of the town, it seemed to me that this was the restaurant in Guéthary to satisfy your taste buds.

This review adds up to dozens of delicious and heartwarming moments.
15/12/2025: Full little restaurant bar situated at the train station where you can watch the trains wooshhhh by as you are eating a delicious locally sourced meal or an expertly prepared cocktail. A fun experience to take in while visiting Guethary!

14/09/2026: We read the reviews and, to be honest, were almost ready to turn around and leave. 😄 Long waits, bad service, chaos, overpriced… great!
But: We can't confirm these experiences at all. It wasn't busy when we were there, the service was friendly, the food arrived quickly and was really very good.
And then, of course, there's the location: right on the sea, with a magnificent view and a sunset that, on a beautiful evening, really doesn't need anything else. 🌅
Is everything perfect here? No. The restaurant is quite unconventional, the owner is too, and you don't necessarily get the feeling that there's a meticulously optimized restaurant concept behind it. 😉 Those who value perfect processes and a professional appearance might find that off-putting.
But we found that more charming than bothersome. It has something imperfect, quirky, and authentic about it – and in the end, what matters to us is good food, friendly service, and that fantastic view.
Maybe we just caught them on a good day. Perhaps some guests' expectations were a little too high. 😉
We, for our part, had a really lovely evening and would definitely come back.

22/07/2024: Nous avions une 1ère bonne expérience culinaire avant la saison ( malgré l'invasion de mouches) Mais un peu déçus cette fois. Peut-être est-ce parce que c'est la pleine saison et qu'ils ont moins de temps pr peaufiner les plats, mais nos plats ns ont semblé un peu bâclés et surtout la mm sauce omniprésente ds ts les plats. Cela reste tout de mm bon
Les prix sont assez élevés mais l'endroit est original , la vue (encore + si vous mangez dehors) est magnifique! Le personnel est aimable et efficace !
Ns reviendrons certainement, après la saison!

Endroit et une vue magnifique sur l’océan. Les moules et le ceviche étaient très bien servi. Je souligne la Gentillesse naturelle du personnel .
