18/08/2026: We came for dinner and received a very warm welcome. We wanted to eat seafood, and the restaurant staff gave us excellent advice, both on the oysters and the wine. All this in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Well done to them for making our evening so enjoyable. We will definitely return on our next visit to La Rochelle.

20/08/2026: A great find. A little set back from the port of La Rochelle, with a peaceful terrace. Superb and very efficient service. The dishes are homemade and the mussels marinière are excellent. Tip: try the Joels as a starter (similar to fried smelts).

05/08/2026: A very bad experience. We arrived in the afternoon, when there were few diners and the place was nearly empty. Despite this, the person in charge was hostile. It took a long time for them to take our order and even longer to serve us; we waited about 35 minutes for our food, whereas other customers—who were French—were served in about 15 minutes, even those who had arrived after us. There are busier places nearby where we received faster service and better treatment.

27/07/2026: Disappointing. That's the word that comes to mind to describe our experience. Deplorable is the word to describe the service. Apparently, ordering three beers and a baked Camembert is enough to irritate the waiter 🤷‍♀️. Complete indifference, bordering on insolence, when we pointed out that the baked Camembert was simply warm and cubed instead of melted. Spoiler alert: it was bad. The Troll has changed its atmosphere since the new owner took over. And it's such a shame because this pub has potential, but this behavior completely ruins the experience. Keep walking; there are other bars that serve good beers without treating you with contempt.

25/07/2026: My partner and I regularly visit La Rochelle and have walked past this pub several times. It caught our eye with its selection of beers (we're beer enthusiasts). We received a very warm welcome, with excellent beer recommendations, and they even let us taste before we ordered. The beer platter was fantastic value for money 👌 – so far, the best we've had in La Rochelle in a long time. We highly recommend this place!
