07/07/2025: A big thank you to Loïse for her exceptional service at Café de la République. She was smiling, attentive, and very professional. It's rare to come across such a warm and efficient waitress. We will be happy to come back.
02/07/2025: I ordered a virgin strawberry mojito with no added sugar. The waitress explained to me that they didn't add any sugar (even though cane sugar was listed in the ingredients). She explained that the "strawberry cream" used for the cocktail was already very sweet (even though it was supposed to be puree) and that's why they didn't add any sugar.
The result: half a centimeter of refined sugar deposits at the bottom of my glass and a cocktail that was way too sweet...
I must have run into a lazy waitress who didn't want to indicate the "sugar-free" option.

17/12/2024: Very pretty “old-fashioned” café, beautiful decor. In summer, small terrace. All overlooking Place Bellecour, giving life to a rather quiet side of the square.
17/12/2024: Racist rude staff, we were greeted at the door by a man who mentioned lunch? We replied yes and he immediately changed his attitude towards us once he realised we were English and told us were not serving just yet. So we asked to have a coffee while we wait. The man then told us they aren't serving coffee to us even though they was plenty of room and lots of people already drinking coffee. He made us feel uncomfortable and unwanted for being English

29/07/2024: One of the best bakeries in the region. We love croissants and pain au chocolat. The price is good too, the seller is kind and helpful.

14/09/2024: One word...disgusting! An outrage to Lyon's gastronomy. How can we leave the appellation of Lyonnais cork to this palace of frozen pâté en croute, Lidl vinaigrette and charred meat???
04/09/2024: Very disappointed, for a so-called traditional Lyonnais restaurant TO FEE!!!!!!!!
Where to start, very unpleasant and bitter waiter, the waiter serves you with annoyance, if you didn't like your job, do something else sir!!!
Icy atmosphere, no background music, nothing.
Dusty dishes, not washed for a while, questionable hygiene!!
Inedible dish, too much fat, too salty, not very appetizing.
Manager in the image of his restaurant, does not accept criticism and lets you know.
Very bad experience, I wanted to give them a chance given the 3.7 rating but it was a very bad idea. TO RUN AWAY!!!

22/09/2024: I’ve been living in Lyon for almost 8 years, I’m fluent in French and met one of the rudest waiters in town…
Food was ok, nothing out of this world. The service, that’s another story. From the get go the waiter was not very nice. I’m not pretending the waiter to be super happy but at least a little bit of courtesy. After he brought the bread I gently asked for butter and he rudely said NO. He ended up bringing a big slice of it charging 50 cents. Fine. Then he sat down and had a meal break. A few minutes later a couple entered the restaurant and he told them no service until 19h. It was 18:30h… the couple sat there waiting. We had to ask him to pickup our plates while he was eating…
After reading other reviews I guess we weren’t the only ones with a not so pleasant experience.

31/08/2024: This review only concerns the bar.
The one serves drinks in plastic, even hot drinks even though there are transfers of plastic into the drink.
The reason given by the bartender is that there is no server to collect the glasses... I don't see the connection, because if you deposit the glass glasses, people will bring them back like the plastic ones. There are also stainless steel cups, but glass is much better suited.
I also read the story of instructions not being returned. I was entitled to the same when I wanted to eat the meal purchased on site, with 4 friends, and the cutlery was deposited at €1 per pair. When I brought them back, I was given five yellow tokens.
I haven't eaten there since!
18/08/2024: The service has generally changed in a negative way - deposit on glasses which does not always work and the quantity has decreased to the detriment of quality. The pint went from 50cl to 40cl for the same price!. There are only 2 bars (or only one depending on the crowd) and the queue is monumental to be served a drink. The servers are nice but unscrupulous and totally nonchalant.

25/05/2024: Deplorable welcome!!! A woman doesn't even take the time to give us the timetable even though we tell her that we don't know the ice rink and that we have driven 2 hours with 3 children. We take the ticket at 11:21 a.m. and the ice rink closes at 12 p.m. and she doesn't tell us!!!! What use is she in a RECEPTION if she can't even give reception information!!! And what's more, I ask her for skates, she tells me that they don't exist and at the skates the ladies tell me that of course they do exist! Incompetent, mean, unwelcoming, unpleasant and so on. Has nothing to do in a public reception where people come to have fun!
Fortunately we found a very understandable employee who listened to us. (Hence the 2 stars otherwise 0)
In short, pay attention to the reception, ask for all the information because apart from "collecting" it is useless (that's what she told me when I went to ask her for accounts)

I recommend the ice hockey matches.
Small downside for the speakers (too bad for the atmosphere during matches)

25/07/2024: Aggressive and rude boss who hits cars parked in front of his bar in perfectly legitimate parking spaces or sits on them. Some drunk customers on the sidewalk are no better and contribute to this disrespect. Although the bar looks optically appealing, I strongly cancel.

The atmosphere is sticky, plastic glasses, unpleasant or even malicious service, none of the equipment works (air conditioning, music, screens, etc.). Plus, the boss, the man in the hat already cited in many comments, is extremely aggressive. If the establishment does not put you off, its interventions and its inquisitive and unsympathetic presence will end up scaring you away.

22/08/2024: Pour diner en famille , j ai acheté différentes variétés d entrées et plats, poulet etc peu gouteux , fades ,présentations très moyennes, il n est plus offert de mayonnaise pour ajouter aux mets ,il faut la payer.
Les prix ont augmentés , la qualité a déclinée , certaines serveuses peu sympathiques, heureusement restent quelques anciennes.
Quel dommage ,Pagnol , était une institution , une référence…
20/06/2024: Service bâclé - plats sans intérêt. Quelle dégringolade par rapport à ce qu'était cette adresse il y a quelques années.
