The dining room seats about thirty, complemented by a tiny sidewalk terrace: it's best to reserve, even on a Monday evening, or you risk being turned away. As for the food: a fresh and generous Lyonnaise salad as a starter. The pea soup (offered as the daily starter) was delicious, light, and perfectly seasonal—ideal to begin the meal. 08/07/2026: We had a great evening here. We went for the small plates, and everything we tried was really tasty. The owner was lovely and really helpful, giving us recommendations for the wine, as well as suggesting some other wine shops to check out. The place itself has a really cool atmosphere and feels like somewhere you’d happily spend a few hours. A great experience overall and somewhere we’d definitely return to.

06/07/2026: A great place for drinks with friends & sharing snacks. Service was excellent, so was the atmosphere. The slightly raw look exuded a more authentic local rather than touristy commercial feel. A few snacks stand out, including the chorizo buns & Buns a l’ail. Poulet roti & echine de porc good too, but salad Thai was a little disappointing. So was Eton Mess, it was nothing like the real thing but we it was a nice reinvention & we wolfed it down never-the-less.

It was so life-changing, in fact, that I had to go back a second time just to experience it all over again. ​Stepping into this iconic Lyon institution, you expect perfection. You don't expect to be emotionally undone by baked eggs and sugar—twice. ​When it arrives, it commands the table, defying both gravity and physics by rising impossibly high above the ramekin with a golden crown. I’m convinced the pastry team sold their souls to a French demon of thermo-expansion, because achieving a structure this tall without collapsing into a tragic egg puddle borders on sorcery. ​Piercing the crust yields a faint, delicate crackle before your spoon sinks into a center of cloud-like velvet. Texture-wise, it’s an ethereal foam that practically evaporates on the tongue, striking an impossible balance between deep, decadent richness and feather-light subtlety. Speaking of the meal, you are enveloped in a haven of tranquility and transported by the chef's inspirations. The finesse and precision are evident in both the taste and presentation; you won't be disappointed! The ingredients, in addition to being expertly prepared, are sourced locally, which is very appealing from both an ethical and environmental perspective. In short, an experience of discovery and pleasure! Thank you to the entire team for their hard work and the warm welcome you extended to us.

08/08/2026: We got the 6 course surprise. Little did we know that it would be a nightmare. We said when they asked for preferences or allergies on the booking and at the start that we couldn't eat pigeon so they've replaced it with the most ridiculous vegetarian dish which was literally a bunch of leaves with ZERO protein in it. Are you telling me you cant sub pigeon with chicken or another meat ??? Besides this there was no meat on the menu!! Just main dish was fish. And one has only pork fat. There were three itemd which were literally leaves - the combination of lettuce and fish was terrible taste for a star restaurant and frankly boring. On to the taste - most of the food references and use local ingredients but the seasoning and taste was lacking. Next, the temperature - broths should be served reasonably warm, not room temp and elements of dessert which if it's is cold should be served cold. This detail was entirely missing. The sauces served with the food didn't all go together. There was no heat or acid. It felt very imbalanced. We felt ripped off with the lack of meat, too many raw leaves and average tastes. I recommend you save your money and go somewhere else in town, where you'll get 5 meals per person with way more flavour that actually reflect Lyon creativity. Service was friendly but they should really replace the cutlery after every course and not cheap out on this. Atmosphere is a bit too casual for a fine dinner but that's okay.

27/06/2026: The place is wonderful, the food delicious (€33 for the set menu of starter, main course, and dessert), and the setting magnificent. Absolutely nothing to complain about! Go without hesitation!

26/06/2026: Maison Villemanzy is a classic on the slopes of Croix-Rousse, known of course for its exceptional view of the city! And what a view it is! It's a unique place that I enjoyed rediscovering after several years! The set menu is quite reasonably priced and offers a wide selection of dishes. For me, the pea soup as a starter was a delight! I was a little more disappointed by my beef tartare, which was the low point of the evening. Everything else was perfect: from the attentive service to the view, and even the dishes in general were very good (especially the pork with polenta). But clearly, the tartare was a huge disappointment. For the price of the set menu, one expects much better quality; it's definitely the area for improvement, in my opinion. This doesn't detract too much from my experience, and it would be unfair to deduct a star for it. I'll keep an eye on how the dish develops, and I hope to return soon and be pleasantly surprised! The dishes are breathtakingly masterful, perfectly blending the grand Lyonnais tradition with a touch of refined modernity. From start to finish, each plate is a true masterpiece of flavor and balance. The service is impeccable: attentive, warm, and professional without ever being stiff. The team passionately conveys the history and philosophy of this legendary establishment. A must-visit in Lyon. I highly recommend it!
