05/01/2026: €7.50 for the smallest beer. Ridiculous! The one star is for the fact that they were showing football on TV. On top of that, you have to go to the bar to order and there's no table service. You'd expect that for an €8 beer. Go to a kiosk in Nice, buy a drink there, and sit on the promenade – you'll get much more out of it!

The setting is undeniably pleasant and photogenic, ideal for lunch or dinner by the sea with a relaxed atmosphere and live music in the evening. Service can be disorganized at times depending on the time of day or how busy it is, and the price is a bit too high. In short, La Vela offers a good setting and a lovely seaside experience, with dishes that can be very good or disappointing depending on the service and the time of day. It's a good choice for enjoying the scenery and a meal on the terrace, keeping in mind that service and culinary consistency can vary, especially during the summer months.

28/02/2026: When the terrace manager forgets the meaning of the word "hospitality": First, I want to start with the positives: the setting of the Méridien rooftop is absolutely magnificent. The view overlooking the sea is splendid, and the food we ate was very good. The dishes were beautifully presented, and the rest of the team was smiling and pleasant throughout the meal. Now, the context. I had booked two and a half weeks in advance for my partner's birthday, with a very specific request: a table right on the waterfront. During my initial call, I was told that if I booked early enough and it was a special occasion, tables were assigned based on the order of reservations. Perfect, so I booked online, leaving a detailed comment. A week before the date, I called again to make sure everything was in order and to ask if they could arrange for a candle on my partner's dessert. I was assured that everything was recorded, that it wouldn't be a problem, and that my request for a seafront table had been received. On the day, we were seated at a table that wasn't in the front row, even though the restaurant wasn't crowded and several seafront tables were still available. So I politely got up to ask if it would be possible to have the table I had requested when making my reservation. The response from "CAMILLE," the terrace manager, was… surprising. I was told that I clearly didn't know "restaurant etiquette," that in the restaurant business, nothing is promised, and that it's "first come, first served." I immediately pointed out that if it wasn't possible, there was no problem and we could stay at the assigned table. But the explanation didn't end there. She continued with a bakery analogy: “When you go to the bakery, you wait in line, you don’t cut in line. It’s the same here.” The metaphor was… audacious. I didn’t think that a request made two and a half weeks in advance, confirmed twice for a birthday, could be considered an attempt to “cut in” on someone in a queue. The comparison is perplexing, especially since several tables matching the request were clearly available. I should point out that we had a reservation for 1 p.m. If it had been clearly explained to me on the phone that the front-row tables were strictly first-come, first-served, I would obviously have booked for 12:30 p.m. My objection isn’t the refusal itself, but the contradictory information and the tone used. Ironically, a few minutes later, a front-row table became available. We were then told that we would be seated there… after checking that it wasn’t reserved. I must admit I was surprised. Just moments before, I was told that nothing is reserved in restaurants, and suddenly I had to check if this particular table was. The logic is hard to grasp. We ordered at 1 p.m. and received our food at 2:30 p.m. An hour and a half wait, without any real explanation, for lunchtime service is a long time. When it came time for dessert, I had to ask again for the candle, which, once again, had clearly not been taken into account despite the phone confirmations. In short: a superb setting, quality cuisine, a generally pleasant staff… but unclear reservation management, contradictory information, and a very long service time. It's a shame because with a little more consistency and consideration, the experience could have been perfect.
