30/09/2026: The pho was very good, but unfortunately, the experience was spoiled by the service. We ordered two small ramen bowls and, since we didn't feel like eating anything else at that point, we mentioned that we would have dessert afterward. From then on, we clearly noticed a change in attitude: unpleasant looks, repeated visits to our table to try and clear our plates even though we hadn't finished, and a rather abrupt and insistent manner. We did, however, order desserts and herbal tea. We felt rushed and quite uncomfortable for a good part of the meal. It's a shame, because the food was really good, but this kind of service unfortunately doesn't make us want to come back.

20/09/2026: Accomplished Vietnamese Cooking in a Restaurant Trying Too Hard I judge a Vietnamese restaurant by its pho. So, having ordered it at Le Sourire de Saïgon, I was surprised to be asked whether I might prefer something else, since the pho, I was told, is small and generally taken as a starter. For a dish that is essentially hearty, generous street food, this was a curious reinvention. I replied, only half in jest, that pho is all I ever eat and I would content myself with whatever arrived. What arrived was clean, lean and delicate, subtle in the manner of the northern style and carrying an unusual note of aniseed, but without the depth and richness that make a great bowl. It was good, but not the benchmark I had hoped for. The rest of the cooking was more convincing. The food was very good throughout, and there is genuine ambition in the kitchen. Glutinous sticky rice comes cooked in bamboo tubes, as it is in the mountainous north-west of Vietnam, which is an authentic and unusual touch. It is somewhat undone by the ceremony of peeling the tube open at the table, which tips from theatre into ostentation. That tension between substance and display runs through the evening. The decor is attractive, but leans heavily Chinese for a restaurant that prides itself on being Vietnamese. Saigon's cuisine owes a good deal to its Chinese community, so some overlap is understandable. A pop-art portrait of Mao Zedong in the men's toilets is harder to explain. It suggests either that the look was never considered beyond a generic idea of the Far East, or that nobody expected the guests to notice the difference. The menu otherwise strives for style and distinction, yet it includes a page of photographs of customers at their tables, famous visitors I am told. It is an incongruous and rather vulgar note. Service was detached and faintly disingenuous. Each plate was set down with a "bonne dégustation," sometimes murmured so quietly and with so little conviction as to be barely audible: a courtesy performed rather than meant. The table was laid with stemmed wine glasses, though none of us ordered wine, and when our beers and water arrived, no water glasses came with them. When we asked, we were told to use the wine glasses, and only my evident surprise prompted a swap for something more suitable. There is nothing wrong with drinking water from a wine glass. It simply sits awkwardly with the elaborate gastronomic experience the restaurant works so hard to project. The idea of a gastronomic Vietnamese restaurant is a perfectly good one, and in the kitchen, at least, Le Sourire de Saïgon partly delivers it. But in reaching for style and distinction while slipping into vulgarity elsewhere, it comes across as pretentious and a little snobbish rather than refined. It is worth a visit for the cooking, provided you can overlook the performance around it.

14/09/2026: Very good and fresh food. The pickle salad is so refreshing on a hot day. Both prawn and salmon are fresh and sweet.

12/04/2026: I was very disappointed by this restaurant. The waitress was lovely and the wine was very good. Those were the only positive points for me. The portions were tiny. I ordered the beef barbecue. I got a few slices of beef with 4 or 5 mushrooms. It came with a small bowl of rice. No vegetables, no soup as a starter. I was still hungry afterward. (Even though we had ordered a starter)

13/05/2026: Traditional Chinese restaurant. Very good, classic and typical decor. I particularly enjoyed the chef's crispy lemon chicken. Friendly service.

14/09/2026: The Vietnamese specialties were very good, the welcome was excellent, and the explanations of the dishes and drinks were clear. The only slight drawback was the serving temperature; it would have been nice if the dishes and appetizers had been served hot. Apart from that, there was nothing to complain about, and we will gladly return.

27/08/2026: Incorrect prices. We had high expectations, especially because of the prices shown in the menu images, which were incorrect. It also stated that children up to 10 years old had a children's price, but when we asked, it turned out that wasn't the case. Seeing our disappointment, they offered us a discount, which is unacceptable—not being honest from the start. The place is quite clean and tidy, and the staff is friendly, but there's little variety for the price, and there are few customers, confirming the lack of freshness and turnover of the food.

26/08/2026: We had a wonderful time at La Grande Muraille in Avignon! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves from start to finish. The selection of dishes is truly superb, with something to satisfy every palate. Everything was delicious, and we particularly appreciated the variety on offer. Special mention also goes to the staff, who are fantastic: welcoming, smiling, and very pleasant. It's such a pleasure to be treated so well! A great place for an all-you-can-eat Asian restaurant, which we highly recommend. We will definitely be back! 🥢❤️

09/08/2026: WOK is fantastic! A wide selection and plenty of seating, ideal for large events or a small gathering. Special mention to the service and the paradise-dream cocktail :) AND THERE'S AIR CONDITIONING!

18/07/2026: Expired products, tomatoes and vegetables are a joke, no choice, no starters, limited main courses... hygiene is nonexistent, this wok restaurant is for people who have never set foot in a real wok. Avoid it, it should be shut down... if I post photos and videos, the rave reviews are unbelievable, a disgrace to all wok restaurants out there. The decor is great, the murals and the ceiling, but the food? No thanks, never again. Anyone can leave without paying, the cash register is at the bar. This restaurant is a joke.

24/09/2026: A very good Thai restaurant, the only downside: I had booked through TheFork, but apparently they hadn't registered it. They had to seat us upstairs and turn on the lights, and the service was very slow because there was only one waitress and the owner. They called the dishwasher from the kitchen to help with service because the service elevator wasn't working. The waitress was wonderful; we felt sorry for her, as she was constantly going up and down the endless stairs. The cutlery was dusty, at least upstairs. Besides, we were the only diners. As for the atmosphere, there wasn't any: no music, no air conditioning, just the windows open to the noisy street. It's a shame because we loved the food! Also, some dishes aren't listed on the menu; you have to ask for them directly, which is a shame too. In summary, if you want to eat typical Thai food, this is the perfect place despite its shortcomings.
