18/02/2026: Overall, the staff was lovely, but many details could be improved. Upon arrival (mid-afternoon), we checked in at reception and were greeted warmly. Someone was vacuuming at the same time, almost right next to us, making it difficult to hear the staff over the noise. Perhaps the least they could do is turn off the vacuum cleaner during the five-minute check-in process. There was a strong, unpleasant odor in the room every time we used the sink. The magnifying mirror wasn't fixed in place (it wouldn't stay put), making it difficult to use. We arrived for breakfast at 9:45. The room was practically empty, with only three tables occupied. We were seated furthest from the buffet and, more importantly, closest to the kitchens (noise from machines, washing dishes, and staff conversations). We asked the reception staff for recommendations on where to eat in town, but they had no knowledge of the city. They confided that even though they had been working there for a year and a half, they didn't know the streets or the area. We were looking for a seafood restaurant, and we discovered Christopher Coutanceau's famous restaurant less than a 5-minute walk from the hotel. We won't be returning to the Novotel in La Rochelle.

23/03/2026: The seafood is certainly excellent, but the cooked dishes are disappointing. The salt cod and sun-dried tomato Tatin is like a reheated shepherd's pie, and Provençal tomatoes as a side dish in February?!

22/03/2026: Ah, Tonton Louis! A magical place for both the taste buds and the atmosphere! Located right on the edge of the fishing port of La Rochelle Chef de Baie, the food couldn't be fresher and the staff incredibly welcoming. Whatever the season, it's always a special occasion to spend an evening in this extraordinary restaurant!

16/03/2026: Having come for Sunday lunch specifically for the cordon bleu, I was able to get it despite Sunday being exclusively brunch service. We thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you for the very pleasant service!

18/03/2026: My friends and I are in La Rochelle for Erasmus. We love the food here but everytime we have been to this restaurant we have experienced a very rude service. As a group of young women who don’t speak French, we believe we wouldn’t have been treated this way as we noticed the manager was being very kind to all other tables. Last time we went we left without getting food because we felt they didn’t deserve our service

15/03/2026: After placing our order, we learned 30 minutes later that it had been forgotten. We then had to wait another 20 minutes to be served by an unpleasant and dismissive waiter.

13/01/2026: A bistro-style restaurant. We went without a reservation for a simple lunch, but after the midday service. A very good value for money restaurant. We started with a tartine of apple compote, gratinéed goat cheese, and a green salad. The fish was perfectly cooked in a sauce with several side options, including fresh pasta or dauphinoise potatoes. For dessert, we had homemade panna cotta with strawberry or chocolate coulis and rice pudding. (Charcuterie and meat were also available). The Merlot was perfectly respectable, but there was a selection of other wines if you wanted to treat yourself. The service was always friendly and cheerful, even though they were very busy. This restaurant has two rooms, and it was full on a Tuesday, so that says it all! 😁 The room was decorated with a theme. The coffee was rather average, but the 5-star rating is well-deserved because the value for money is excellent. The restrooms were spotless, even at the end of service. Thank you to the entire team.

29/03/2026: Aside from the sea view, everything was mediocre, including the checkout where you can wait 10 minutes in a neglectful manner without a single polite word. But it's precisely because of this that you realize the bartender's blatant lack of hygiene.

03/03/2026: We went in, the room was half empty, but apparently everything was booked, and we couldn't even put ourselves on a waiting list for a later table. I loved this place, and it would have been nice to have at least a warmer welcome.

15/02/2026: I've rarely eaten so badly. I ordered lasagna that was swimming in oil. I had to take it out of the pot to leave the oil in the bottom; you can see for yourself in the photos just by looking at the amount of oil that ended up on my plate. There was also a lot of Parmesan in the lasagna, even though it wasn't listed on the menu (it's always better to indicate the presence of "strong" cheeses to avoid unpleasant surprises). Both of us were sick that night, with stomach aches and nausea. We won't be going back!
