24/09/2024: Excellent, even for a group thanks to the upstairs room.

23/09/2024: It's such a shame! I've wanted to try this restaurant for a long time. The dishes are good, and correspond to the promise (a modern blend of local and seasonal produce). But the service and timing is catastrophic. We had reserved for 8 p.m., at 9 p.m. I kindly pointed out to the waiter that we had had 2 appetizers (out of the 3 announced) and still no main course. 9:15 p.m., the first course arrives (there are 7 on the menu...), but the third appetizer has been forgotten. Of course, it was brought back to us afterwards, it would have been a shame to miss it because it was delicious (oyster and crispy pig's ear with green leek oil). The glasses of wine pairing with food and wine are served after the dish they are supposed to enhance (well after... when the plate is empty). The last course was served at 11:45 p.m.... 30 minutes between 2 courses is acceptable in a brasserie between the starter and the main course for example, but not in a gourmet restaurant, not at this price. The servers seemed a little overwhelmed, but it was quite "quiet" in the kitchen (this is the disadvantage of having an open kitchen, the customers see everything). I understand that there may be a shortage of staff, but you should warn customers, and accommodate if possible. In short, I wouldn't come back but that's a shame.

10/10/2024: Food, I can't judge because I went there with friends for a beer (or two). On the other hand, a super nice pub, the waitress is really great, she even takes care to make a little drawing with the beer foam. Very good atmosphere and very, very good music.

17/09/2024: Typical dishes always excellent, a friendly setting, in summer the outdoor terrace is very well in the heart of the busy street with the atmosphere of the port of La Rochelle. Service always with a smile and fast. To discover but on the weekend it is better to book. You can return to the takeaway if the restaurant is full.

05/09/2024: Well-stocked plates, tasty cuisine, fast and friendly service. Reasonable prices considering the quality of the dishes. Well done. I recommend.

18/09/2024: Café Snack “Le Chougare” (= Sugar!) just opposite the La Rochelle SNCF train station. Very warm welcome by the owners (Jean-Noël and his wife). Very reasonable prices (much more than others in the same sector…). Family type bar (not “Tourist trap”). Ideal for people or students passing through the area, especially between the train station and the different schools. Very clean. In addition, a big advantage for internet users: as much as you want on the terrace or 20 minutes indoors (editor's note: yes, indoors, you have to leave room for others...). Good and economical breakfast (coffee + pastries). All I have to do is try the sandwiches, the homemade dishes and the wraps which all look very good. I recommend this small business, especially for young and old looking for peace and quiet, both to study and to chat in peace. Provisional score: 19/20.

09/09/2024: Delicious quiche and excellent homemade flan in an establishment that exudes good humor. Very practical for a quick bite to eat between two trains, or when connecting a train and regional coaches at the bus station.

16/09/2024: We choose this restaurant for two reasons: it was reasonably close to our hotel and got good on-line reviews. The meal we had was possibly the best of our two-week holiday travelling around north-west France. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was excellent and not unduly expensive for the standard. We really enjoyed the experience and would happily recommend Le Mail.

27/01/2025: Arriving late on a Sunday at 2 p.m. without reservation, we were welcomed with a smile and comfortably installed facing the port of La Rochelle. The young woman who served us was really professional, pleasant and smiling, and the dishes & desserts we tasted were good, even the children's menu was quality. On this subject, as parents, we are sensitive to welcoming children. There, everything was there: high chair or booster seat, changing area, children's menu, small coloring set... The prices are a little high in our opinion, but we were looking for lunch before going to the aquarium, so it was really very convenient, a good time.

25/01/2025: Friendly setting, warm welcome, perfect service, refined cuisine and careful presentation. Very good value for money. In short, a great time with great food and a great team!

14/12/2024: My partner and I are real fans ☺️ The pizzas are absolutely delicious and very generous. With a good variety for different desires, we tried several types of pizzas and they were all as good as each other. The chef is really great, super warm and with a good sense of humor! 18/08/2024: When we visited a full menu was displayed but only pizzas available. Not clear why. The pizzas were cooked one at a time, so service took a while, but they were very fresh. Decent range of flavours, tasty and generous. Popular venue. Service was fine though the waiter was struggling as to how to do particulars and would probably benefit from further training.

16/09/2024: Nice place for a dinner with a view of the port. The service is impeccable, the staff are smiling (even in the middle of August with a crowded restaurant) and we had a great time. The dishes are prepared with fresh, quality ingredients. Don't forget the aperitif cocktail which adds something positive to the experience.

15/09/2024: Super nice! Top ceviche, very beautiful and very good foil mold!!! Only one small problem: no Saumur on the menu 😉

15/06/2024: Our last meal before we left La Rochelle. All meals were good, the steak, the pork(plat du jour) and the dessert (cream brûlée). If I go to La Rochelle again, I must come their restaurant again.

04/04/2025: Très bon repas, le site est super malheureusement le service de la manageuse reste à améliorer. Elle a choisi de retirer la table pour l’un de nos amis qui ne pouvait pas manger suite à des allergènes importants !!!
