10/03/2026: This hotel is out in the middle of nowhere. There is nothing near by. It’s a. Ice hotel to spend the night if you are driving through this area. The restaurant is great. The staff is amazing and very polite. Rooms are ok.

09/03/2026: Our stay at the Novotel was unfortunately not satisfactory. We had booked a family room, but there was only one chair for four people to put our clothes on, which is very insufficient. Furthermore, the air conditioning wasn't working in the room, even though it was extremely hot. It was possible to open the window, but it had no safety lock, which is problematic when you're staying with a three-year-old and a six-year-old. There were also no more bottled water in the room. We had to go down to the ground floor to get water from the fountain, even though we were on the third floor, which wasn't very convenient. Finally, there were no more glasses in the room, only paper cups, which is quite disappointing for a hotel of this category.

16/04/2026: At first glance, the owner, who is quite well-known in Bourges, was very sour behind his bar, offering no greeting, no goodbye, and no thank you. The steak tartare was as basic as could be, with dry, overcooked fries that were truly tasteless. The flank steak was charged at the price of a ribeye steak—a shame, I only noticed it too late when I got home. The service was pleasant and straightforward, without any fuss.

10/03/2026: A very pleasant surprise. A warm welcome with attentive service (including a vegetable modification), quality cuisine, and reasonable prices. Bonus: a lovely spot bathed in spring sunshine.

We loved the communal dining experience, which makes you want to strike up a conversation with your neighbors. Finally, the value for money is absolutely unbeatable. We will definitely return.

15/02/2026: I read the initial reviews and I agree: it's a family-run restaurant, a rare find these days, with attentive staff. They even kindly offered us more fries if we wanted. The prices are more than reasonable: aperitif, starter, main course, cheese, dessert, and coffee for €28 on a Sunday lunchtime; a very good meal, and it's even cheaper during the week. I'll gladly go back.

19/03/2026: Unfriendly. Arrived at 12:00 PM and still hadn't been served by 1:30 PM. When ordering a meal, there was no menu available, and the owner was very unpleasant. I've never seen such a disagreeable manager. I absolutely do not recommend this restaurant.

16/03/2026: Excellent food and remarkably kind waiter. I would also add that the customers, residents of this pretty little town, are pleasantly polite, a quality that is becoming increasingly rare in big cities.

11/02/2026: We've stopped at the Hotel St. Joseph several times. For a coffee, a meal, and sometimes even overnight. Everything is perfect. The rooms are welcoming and clean, with excellent bedding. Delicious meals and, above all, a lovely and attentive staff! We arrived very late last night, and they were waiting for us with a smile, allowing us to dine in peace and quiet! Thank you! 04/03/2026: The experience was generally adequate, nothing more. The setting is pleasant, typical of a country bistro, and the terrace is lovely in good weather (unfortunately not set up). As for the food, the dishes are simple, but the execution sometimes lacks finesse; the daily special (good value for money) is a bit bland or too basic. The portion sizes are decent. The service is generally professional, although occasionally a little distant. Nothing unpleasant, but we didn't really feel any particular warmth or enthusiasm.

09/02/2026: First experience with my wife, and certainly the last. Appetizers, main courses, wines to accompany them, and a coffee for me. When it came time to pay, the owner asked, "How was it?" When asked, I replied, "The fries were sweet!" The owner called her husband into the kitchen. "You made a mistake, you put sugar instead of salt!" But no, it's the potato flesh that's sweet. "Impossible," they retorted, "I tasted them and they weren't sweet." With my coffee, I had a fruit jelly, which was quite good, by the way. So I pointed out that a table behind us, who weren't ordering coffee, had received a small plate with four small fruit jellies, and I got a wonderful response: "Those ladies are regular customers." I didn't know there were different types of customers. Too bad, I won't become a regular who can benefit from special treatment. I hope for the sake of these regular customers that the owner will not carry out, as she loudly proclaimed, her plan to stop offering fruit jellies because of me.

16/04/2026: Family lunch on the terrace. The set lunch menu was very generous and excellent value for money, accompanied by a glass of Sancerre. We loved the location, the service, and the menu, and we definitely recommend this place.

28/02/2026: A wonderful memory of this stopover in the heart of the small village of Chavignol. The hotel is opposite a producer of Crottin de Chavignol cheese, a family who also produces very high-quality Sancerre and Pouilly wines (their estate is not far from the hotel). The hotel is charming, and finally: A fantastic tasting menu at the restaurant, which I chose to pair with wines from the Bourgeois family (high-end wines, including glasses of wine that sell for over €40 a bottle at the estate). The entire tasting menu was served for €40 – a real bargain, don't hesitate! The restaurant also has a very lovely decor. I will definitely return.
