17/05/2026: A truly wonderful discovery! We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves from beginning to end. The welcome was perfect, warm, and genuine, the service excellent, and the entire team went out of their way to take care of us and our children, who were treated like royalty. The atmosphere is both welcoming and refined, with a splendid setting where you immediately feel at ease. The owners are very kind and passionate. We wholeheartedly recommend this place and will gladly return. Thank you again for this wonderful experience!

We received a very warm welcome; there were six of us, and we were seated at a round table in the large, glass-walled room where you can admire a magnificent view. We opted for the six-course menu, which was excellent from start to finish. An amuse-bouche was served with the aperitif—a little marvel. The dishes were flavorful and well-seasoned, presented beautifully on exquisite tableware. A fine wine list is also available, with recommendations from the sommelier. Reservations are essential (expect months of waiting, especially for weekends).

28/06/2026: Edit post reply: And for us, it was also a pleasure to arrive at your establishment, to wait patiently even though you had seen us and knew we had a reservation, and then to find that the only remaining table on the terrace had been given to customers who arrived after us and simply walked in without waiting. The most surprising thing, however, remains your reaction when we pointed out the problem: according to you, we should have shown up immediately; it wasn't your responsibility to manage the reception. We naively thought that welcoming customers, and in particular respecting the order of arrival and reservations, was part of the expected service in a restaurant. Clearly, we were mistaken. We were therefore able to dine at a place that showed more respect for its customers.

01/07/2026: Every time we're in Le Puy-en-Velay, we eat at L’Écu d’Or, which is definitely one of our two favorite restaurants in town. We went back at the end of June, and it was another success. There were a few changes to the menu, including the removal of some desserts (like the Bavarian cream) and a slight price increase. As for the food, we ordered a set menu. The starter, an Auvergne-style spring roll, was a real surprise: a combination of apples, cheese, and a local touch, quite unexpected but very successful despite my initial skepticism about the sweet and savory combination. The main course (curry skewer) was a bit small and slightly dry at first, but the side dishes more than made up for it. The chuck roast remains a sure thing: still as incredible, as good as we remembered. Regarding the cheese, we were a little disappointed not to find the Velay cheese, but the Saint-Nectaire was a delightful discovery. Special mention goes to the dessert and the rum piña colada cocktail: even for those who aren't alcohol lovers, it was a real success, with a biscuit and coconut base that works perfectly. The service is, as always, impeccable: quick, efficient, and with a team that manages the small dining room very well. The atmosphere is friendly, sometimes a little noisy when a group is very enthusiastic at the back, but that's also part of the charm of the place. The restaurant also has some outdoor seating, which is pleasant in season, but it's highly recommended to book in advance as it's very popular. In short: a sure bet in Le Puy-en-Velay. The cuisine is consistently excellent, the service top-notch, and the atmosphere lively. We'll definitely be back... again and again.

17/05/2026: A beautiful bookstore tucked away in the countryside where you can browse the books, have a drink or a meal.

12/05/2026: About ten kilometers from Chambon-sur-Lignon, we discovered a true gem in the heart of the countryside: L'Arbe Vagabond, a bookstore combined with a wine bar, an exhibition space, and a restaurant. We went there for the Elisabeth Zanesi exhibition, but instead found a very well-stocked and organized bookstore, offering a wide selection of books and a magnificent exhibition. We had lunch surrounded by books and paintings. The waiter seemed a little gruff and/or shy at first, but he relaxed as the meal progressed. The owner was particularly kind and welcoming. We opted for the "Menu de l'Arbe" (not cheap, €45 per person), but it was excellent. In short, an exceptional morning in an exceptional setting.
