20/11/2025: By the grace of heaven and the nobility of my mission, I rode swiftly to Saint-Hilaire-de-Briouze, seeking sustenance for my valiant body and loyal spirit, for I was bound to serve His Majesty with vigor and promptness. My steed, a noble and faithful companion, panted with the strain of the journey, and I halted at a place called La Pommeraie, demanding to be served a meal without delay, for my duty called. From the moment I entered the hall, I demanded the largest portion available, for a knight on a mission for the king could not be satisfied with a meager ration. The lady of the house, with her firm and decisive manner, presented the dishes to me diligently. I was first astonished by the plates, as clear as the water of Norman streams: never in all my travels had I seen such a miracle, and my knightly eye lingered upon them, convinced they were made of enchanting crystal. The beverage that accompanied my feast was so exquisite that, seized by ardor and boldness, I offered to buy the entire cask for my long rides across the kingdom. But the lady, wise and tenacious, refused to yield to my gold coins, thus preserving the secret of her culinary art for future generations. Each bite, each sip, was a source of delight and invigoration for me. The cooking of the meats, the aroma of the herbs, and the care lavished on each dish testified to a mastery worthy of the finest kitchens in the kingdom, comparable to the banquets served at the court of Philip Augustus and the feasts of the city of Rouen. I left La Pommeraie with a full heart and a joyful soul, vowing to myself that I would speak of this establishment to His Majesty and to all the lords of the Court, so that the lady might be honored and, perhaps, called upon to serve at the castle, so perfect is her art and so worthy is her hospitality of a noble knight.

26/01/2025: I don't recommend it, very disappointed. We tried it a second time: the fries were hard, the fish was the same, the pizza wasn't hot, and there was no topping at all—nothing soft.

20/01/2025: Passing through for a spa weekend, we found this restaurant very friendly and right across from the casino. A waitress who takes care of her customers and cuisine completely to our taste. Only complaint: the tables are not very spaced for an intimate meal, but you can't have everything :) Thank you and we will definitely come back.

09/01/2026: One-night stopover in December. The experience fell far short of the expected standards for an establishment at this price point. Upon arrival, the room was freezing: windows wide open despite the intense cold at that time of year, inadequate heating, and no radiator in the bathroom. I had to ask for a space heater. Cleanliness was clearly lacking, with a dirty toilet, a used bath towel, and a mark on the bed, suggesting the room had been briefly occupied before our arrival. I only noticed this later and didn't have the energy to make a fuss. There was no soundproofing whatsoever. The room faced the street with absolutely no soundproofing, making it a nightmare to sleep, not to mention the barely blackout curtains. Dinner at the hotel confirmed this discrepancy between the price and the service provided. The value for money is hard to defend; the soup served was simply disgusting, unseasoned, and very poorly prepared—unworthy of a hotel restaurant at this price. It's hard to go wrong with a soup, though, especially for €9... The breakfast was basic: a bad croissant, a mass-produced baguette. The owner's attitude also significantly contributed to ruining our stay. His repeated and intrusive interruptions at dinner, accompanied by inappropriate comments about my husband's health and demeanor (it happens to everyone not to feel well and not to be talkative or very cheerful, doesn't it?), followed by his inappropriate and sarcastic remarks at breakfast and when paying (we didn't come down to breakfast at the same time, that happens too, doesn't it?), demonstrate a clear lack of professionalism and discretion. It's regrettable that an establishment with such potential for charm and a pleasant location now appears outdated, poorly maintained, and badly managed. At €170 a night plus a poor dinner, for a practically empty hotel, the experience was particularly unpleasant and in no way met a legitimate customer's expectations. I do not recommend this establishment. I'm giving it two stars for the nice location.

27/01/2026: A scandal. The waitress was very nice, but the waiter? A disaster. My fiancé and I had decided to have a drink before going to a restaurant for our 4th anniversary. We arrived when they opened and ordered coffee and hot chocolate, which were deliberately refused. "We don't serve hot drinks anymore" when we opened? A group arrived and ordered hot chocolate, which they accepted. No hot drinks when they opened, but exceptionally refused for us. We were polite, as far as I know. Maybe they have a problem with gay people. Who knows. We won't be back, that's for sure.

28/09/2025: Pleasant welcome, fair price, fast service.

03/12/2025: I received a warm welcome at this restaurant. The menu is interesting, and the five-cheese pizza I ordered was very good. The cheeses were strong and delicious. The pizzas were good and not too expensive. To finish, I tried an Italian-style ice cream. It was very good.

30/11/2025: It's hard to give more when the waitress refuses you a table for 6 people at 8pm for an aperitif that could have turned into a full meal.

01/11/2025: A very good experience. We went there for lunch. At €13.50 per person, it was worth it. The staff was attentive and friendly. We ate very well and left feeling satisfied. For the starter, there was an all-you-can-eat buffet, which was very good; however, the potato salad was frozen and had a strong frozen taste. For the main course, I ordered leg of lamb, and my companion ordered grilled sirloin steak. The meats were tender. As for the sides, I chose pasta, which wasn't great, and the fries needed a few more minutes of cooking. We didn't have dessert because we were so full. In short, the dishes at this restaurant are similar to those served in a brasserie or even a roadside diner. I recommend this place and will definitely return.
