07/09/2024: Certainement la meilleure table de Fontainebleau. L’accueil est impeccable tout comme le service. Je vous conseille de manger dans la véranda, l’ambiance y est très agréable. A faire absolument.
05/08/2024: Restaurant avec un parking intérieur, c'est bien mais vite plein et se parquer dehors devient vite loin. Terrasse donnant sur un petit jardin privé calme. A ce niveau de prix, déjeuner sur un table genre ikea sans nappe n'est pas du niveau. La commande de 2 coupes de champagne arrive toute faite alors que dans un restaurant de ce niveau cela devrait être servi à table en marque de respect et, de plus, cela permet de voir la marque du champagne si on l'apprécie puisque la serveuse ne connait pas ce qu'elle sert quand on lui demande .... (26€) Le foie gras arrive pas froid et mousseux en une fine tranche non uniforme genre cramoisi ! . C'est pas bon et incompréhensible (une erreur ? un loupé ? une recette "branchée") QUID ?. Le ris de veau est bon et les légumes croquants et variés, c'est correct (ça peut pour 38€ le plat) le poisson et les langoustines avec les légumes sont corrects mais cela manque de gout (herbes subtiles ou assaisonement manquants ?) c'est sans immagination. le dessert maca long est très correct avec des fruits frais mais encore une fois, genre bien mais peut mieux faire et déja vu souvent.
Une bone carte des vins mais pas de 1/2 bouteilles en rouge et deux en blanc, pas du niveau auquel prétend ce restaurant.
Bref 204 € à deux avec 2 verres de rouge moyen et un 1/2 sancerre blanc, laisse un arrière gout de loupé et de peut mieux faire dans un service et cadre limite. dommage, il faudrait un vrai effort pour monter d'un cran.

07/09/2024: Warm team, refined cuisine, from starter to dessert. Good wines. Return to L'Axel in September 2024 = still recommendable.
03/09/2024: Second time here and such a wonderful experience. First time was a winter menu. This time it was summer. This is Japanese inspired French dining, with delicate artistry on a plate. Each course preceded by a refreshing tasting morsel. Everything was light but filling, a delight to eat and look at. Well worth the price for a special night out.

20/08/2024: A crêpe (plain white flower) or galette breton (also buckwheat) to die for!
Thin, crispy and fondant at the same time and good quality ingredients. The 'Soubise' with ham, cheese, egg and onions is great. Onions not to heavy in cream. Still subtle enough not to overpower the rest of the flavours.
A big jug of cider on the side and maybe a small salad. In combination with the very friendly service in this cosy place you consider yourself in pancake heaven!

01/08/2024: Une belle adresse, on y mange bien et le service y est sympa. Que ce soit sur la présentation, les produits utilisés ou même la présentation dans l’assiette il n’y a rien à redire.
Pour aller plus loin encore et mieux accompagner cette belle carte, une sélection de vins plus fournie et moins classique serait une piste.

26/08/2024: Recommended by the restaurant Le Mansart closed this Monday evening, reservation via The Fork for this brasserie facing the town hall of Fontainebleau. Friendly welcome and brasserie dish on the menu. The herring and potato starter was perfect and then foie de vaux impeccably cooked. I recommend this brewery. AMEX card accepted.

29/08/2024: The food was *remarkably* bad: we had the octopus and it felt as if it was just pulled from the freezer and boiled (tasteless and unbelievably chewy). The tuna tataki was also not much better. The waiting time was also too high, particularly considering that the restaurant was not that busy. It used to be the case that the food here was quite good: we have eaten at this place numerous times as we lived in Fontainebleau for three years, so I should qualify my review by stating that it's influenced heavily by our last experience. (And as a side note, the prices have also increased *a lot*, even when accounting for inflation...) the silver lining was that the server offered to remove the charge for the octopus - I appreciated the gesture.

12/09/2024: Leaving aside the considerations on how the place looks internally (the floor with a sticky effect and a toilet smell that lingers in the air...), I move on to the food.
Coming from an Italian who should know something about cooking and who has been to France several times and has only eaten French food, I would say that we are not quite there. If there had been a Cannavacciuolo, he would have run into the kitchen and lifted the chef.
The magret de canard ordered arrives cut like a slice of cake, with a cooking that is not a rosé as ordered but almost raw, placed on top of a multitude of vegetables placed on the plate in a messy manner and of questionable cooking (boiled? roasted? dunno... ).
The big mistake is the red fruits that accompany it: it's an exaggeration of vinaigrette, vinegar that floats at the bottom of the dish and ruins everything, covering the flavor of both the meat and the vegetables and making it nauseating. Please bring the vinaigrette separately so the customer can decide whether to put it and how much to put.
No gentlemen, we're not there! I do not want and cannot go to a restaurant, spend more than €30 per person and have similar food, nor do I have to send the dish back to the kitchen if it is not to my liking because the commitment on the part of those who boast the name of chefs is almost non-existent. This is a dish made by someone who doesn't know how to cook, by someone who improvised as a cook that evening, not by a chef.
I'm sorry but you have to renew yourself on quite a few fronts.

25/08/2024: Taken from lamb shanks: tough and dry meat. Accompanied by a fig sauce and sweet potato puree: good. For dessert, a chocolate cake with a failed custard: liquid like milk.
Disappointing value for money
