Fou de Fafa
Avignon, 30-45€
23/05/2026: Amazing food with great service
22/05/2026: Wonderful restaurant with very warm and friendly staff and a great ambiance. The food is exceptional and better than a number of Michelin restaurants attended in Lyon. The service is as exceptional as the food. If you are going to have one great dinner in Avignon, this is the place to go. Make sure that you reserve as it small place.

La Sou'pape
Avignon
16/05/2026: Visiting Avignon's old town, we stopped at La Sou'pape for lunch. The welcome was very warm, and the daily special was well-prepared and delicious. As for the burgers, they're simple but expertly made (and tasty).
A special thank you for recommending a visit to the Pommer Baths.

Le Goût du Jour
Avignon
21/07/2026: I would not recommend this restaurant. As soon as we arrived, the waiter had an attitude towards us (maybe bc we're american? maybe bc we had a 5 year old in tow which they assured us over the phone would be fine??). We had looked at the website online but didn't realize it was a prix fixe (this was 100% our mistake, maybe a language barrier?) and the menu example we saw online showed a lot more options. On the night we were there, they had ONE option for starter, for meal they had one fish, one meat, or one vegetarian option. This is not what we had in mind at all. We explained the situation to our waiter and he said he would charge us 150 euro if we wanted to leave. I completely understand this policy for no-shows bc restaurants need to fill their tables to make money. This was a genuine misunderstanding (there was another whole issue with their reservation system that I won't get into....). The waiter was so condescending in the way he repeatedly told us their policies. I then caught him sending back our first course (a 'surprise' appetizer spread from the chef that I saw other tables getting), telling the server that we wouldnt be eating that (he didn't know I understand some French). I told him that was flat out rude. If we were stuck paying for this experience, we should atleast get the full experience....
Now. I expected after all of that well OK at least the food should be good. But it wasn't??? The best thing we ate by far was the 'surprise' appetizers that he eventually did bring out. The entrees were so underwhelming. Part of the dessert was literally a strawberry in a bowl (Im sure something fancy had been done to it but it tasted... like a strawberry).
I will say I appreciated that they hurried the meal along (because we had a 5 year old with us, we couldn't sit there for hours) and I also appreciated the fact that they had a kids meal. That being said, perhaps the fact that they have a kids meal is what made is think this establishment might be something that its not.
Incredibly disappointing experience overall.
19/07/2026: One of the highlights of my 2026. And I certainly wasn't expecting such a wonderful evening. The restaurant is listed in the Michelin Guide but doesn't yet have a star at the time of writing, which it easily deserves. What a lovely evening I had here! First of all, thank you to the chef who presented each dish with such passion. What a delight the current menu was! The wine pairing was excellent, and if you choose it, trust the sommelier completely; let him select the wines without hesitation. You'll be pleasantly surprised. I made some wonderful discoveries tonight. Here is my menu for tonight:
STARTER Mediterranean cuttlefish Almond milk - Snow peas - Chili green oil
FISH Mathieu Chapel's mackerel from Côté Fish Green beans - Nectarine - Samphire
MEAT Camargue AOP bull
Black rice - Tomato - Gravlax
CHEF'S SUGGESTION Roasted lobster
Macaroni gratin - Sweet onion - Bisque
CHEESE Julien Chazal's cheese selection
DESSERT Provence apricot
Fermented milk - Buckwheat - Marigold passion fruit
If I had to rank the dishes, which is very difficult, the mackerel would come first, followed by the lobster, the apricot dessert, and the bull. But frankly, ranking them wasn't easy tonight. What beautiful dishes, what wonderful flavors! Several dishes were presented on multiple plates that were similar but not quite the same. Discovered this restaurant thanks to the festival tonight, and as much as I've made a wonderful discovery with this festival this year (2026), I will definitely be back next year to this lovely restaurant. I hope to have the same two people, chef and sommelier/waiter, serving me. Thank you!

L'Atelier des thés
Avignon
12/07/2026: Fantastic! We ate there during a train stopover, and the staff were lovely and very accommodating given our tight schedule. The food was delicious, very fresh and light, right in the middle of a pedestrian street in the heart of the Avignon Festival. The cicadas provided a lovely accompaniment to the meal :) Reservations recommended.

Restaurant Hiely Lucullus
Avignon
17/07/2026: An exceptional experience. The Art Nouveau setting is magnificent.
A warm welcome and explanations for every dish. The blend of local ingredients with Peruvian spices is surprising yet perfectly executed. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. Time flew by. An experience to be had at least once.
28/06/2026: In this gourmet restaurant, once one of Avignon's most renowned, the decor remains unchanged, still boasting its Art Deco style that exudes classicism. Yet, everything on the plate is transformed and surprises us. We are presented with "Peruvian," a subtle marriage of flavors concocted by the local chef, inspired by the refined and spicy cuisine of his Peruvian wife. It's a ballet of astonishing and delicious tastes that delights our palates, served with impeccable and smiling service that showcases the art of fine dining. A truly wonderful surprise and a success from start to finish, from the Pisco-based cocktail to the dessert, accompanied by a fresh and fruity Chardonnay from the Ica region of Peru. This little restaurant truly deserves its Michelin green star. We will be back.

Le Gallia

07/07/2026: The setting is warm and inviting, the welcome is top-notch, and the owner is incredibly attentive from start to finish. You can tell she loves hosting, and that makes all the difference.
The dishes are generous, prepared with quality ingredients and, above all, with a lot of care. As for the meat… perfectly cooked! I highly recommend it. For once, there was no need to play the "rare, medium, or well-done" game: it was exactly what we asked for.
A place where you eat well, have a great time, and leave wanting to come back. Well done to the whole team!

La Cour du Louvre

30/05/2026: Cosy nice place with friendly service, merci madame.
Ordered the chicken dish of the day and sea-bass. Both were very delicious.
28/05/2026: I was looking for a restaurant in an alley near the Place de la Campanile in Avignon. I had originally planned to try a relaxed, French-style roadside dining and drinking experience, but this place felt very special. It was like stepping into a cave-like castle, and it had a good Google rating 👍. The food was absolutely amazing! Even though we couldn't speak the language, the owner was incredibly friendly and humorous, making it a wonderful evening in Avignon, France 🎑!
