11/03/2026: Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience at this establishment two days in a row. The first evening, we were rudely turned away for drinks at 9:00 PM, while the terrace was still half full. The second day, we wanted to give the establishment the benefit of the doubt for dinner, but we were again treated condescendingly. The most shocking thing: when one of us asked for a table in French, it initially seemed possible. Until the hostess heard us speaking Dutch; at that point, her attitude immediately changed. She looked us up and down and resolutely refused us without any explanation. It was blatant that we were rejected as soon as our nationality/language became apparent. It's outrageous that a restaurant or bar discriminates in this way. Such a shame.

08/03/2026: Back at La Farigoule after 20 years, the owners have changed but not the quality of this inn, which promotes authentic cuisine made with local products. Moreover, it is located in the picturesque village of Bidon, 3 km from the Ardèche gorges.

29/11/2025: Passing through Tournon, and after being turned away like dirt at St Jo, we stopped for a drink at Bistingo. A sure bet. A very pleasant waitress kindly offered to clear a table that had been set. As always, we received a warm welcome and had a lovely time. Special mention for the service.

06/03/2026: We received a warm welcome and the food was excellent. The set menu was satisfying, generous, and flavorful. However, we were not satisfied with the service: we ordered a beer and then a snack kit. One of the two beers was expired (12/2025), which we didn't mention, and our appetizers arrived at the same time as the beer. So, the appetizers were cold when the Kir arrived, whereas we would have preferred to take our time with the beer. And we barely finished our appetizers before the snack kit wasn't finished, and the main course arrived two minutes later. The dessert took a while to arrive. Otherwise, we were delighted.

05/03/2026: March 2026: Disrespectful and Completely Inappropriate Behavior I returned to Le Bateau d’Émile for lunch with several colleagues to mark a departure. To our great surprise, the chef took it upon himself to tell me, with rare nonchalance and insolence, that he “didn’t think he’d see me again,” that he “didn’t care if I didn’t come back,” and that I could “go eat across the street.” This type of remark is simply unacceptable in an establishment open to the public. Beyond the complete lack of business sense, it is above all the disrespect in tone and attitude that is shocking. My colleagues, who witnessed the scene, were just as stunned as I was by this behavior. As a result, not only will I not return, but they have also decided to no longer frequent this establishment. It's true that you can sometimes get away with this kind of attitude when you have a location with little competition… but that in no way excuses such a lack of respect for customers. Clearly, this doesn't seem to bother the owner. November 2025: I've been a regular customer of the restaurant since it opened… I negotiated with the owner to skip dessert and get a free beer instead (€5 a pint)… in the end, she changed her mind and offered me a free coffee… not very honest and especially not very customer-friendly when you know the markups on food versus alcohol… so I'll pass… giving my money to such unscrupulous people? No thanks. I'll go across the street!

29/03/2026: An unacceptable experience from start to finish. Cold, dry, hard fries… they're inedible, you can't even call them fries. The quality is catastrophic—you can find much better elsewhere. As if that weren't enough, the orders are consistently messed up: sauces forgotten, toys missing… no professionalism, no quality control. It clearly feels rushed. And the worst part: stomach aches the next day. At this point, it's not just bad service, but a serious hygiene and food safety issue. It's urgent that a health inspector visit this establishment, because what's being served is simply unacceptable. Deplorable service, quality unworthy of a brand like this. Absolutely avoid.

To all lovers of good food and quality cuisine, I highly recommend it and will definitely return. (Visit and meal for Valentine's Day) They also offer takeaway! Yum!

27/08/2025: At the beginning of the summer, I had the chance to go to this restaurant with my family. The owner of the establishment was very friendly and we were able to talk with her at length during our visit. In terms of gastronomy, everything on the menu was tempting. Each dish was made with local products. I personally had the right to a succulent goat cheese and honey salad with seasonal vegetables and goat cheese from a producer near Vals, it was delicious. In summary, I recommend anyone coming to Vals to try this restaurant, it is well worth the detour.

18/10/2025: Delicious food in a small restaurant. Great attention to presentation, delicious flavors, and certainly not small portions. Vegetarians can also enjoy a meal here. Reservations are recommended, as it's almost always full.
