08/09/2026: We only had drinks. The prices are steep, so it feels a bit touristy. The service was very friendly.

21/08/2026: On August 21, 2026, around 3 PM, I wanted to stop by for a drink. To my astonishment, the owner was kicking someone who was sitting right next to the patio! He also threw a wooden stool at their face, all while his employees watched... What a fine image for the city and this bar. I will never set foot in this place again, and I intend to spread the word to everyone I know. Shame on you, gentlemen. Civilized people don't take the law into their own hands.

25/06/2026: The service was excellent, the young waiter superb, the drink quality was terrible. They'd be better off investing in good beer than this swill, and the wrap was hairless—I've never seen anything like it. Honestly, you can taste the Boursin cheese more than the chicken, and a quarter of a lettuce leaf leaves you starving. I don't recommend it.

08/04/2026: I just had a Serrano ham, goat cheese, pesto, and sundried tomato sandwich. Excellent! It's €5.90, but the bread is fresh and delicious, and the filling is too, so I prefer to pay a little more than at a bakery where the sandwiches are practically empty, just bread. I recommend this place if you want quality food quickly and to feel satisfied.

25/04/2026: The value for money isn't great. The pizzas are good, but expensive for what they are. The pasta is egg-free, which I find unacceptable, not only considering the price but also because it wasn't mentioned on the menu. And it was undercooked. We were served a "gourmet coffee," but without coffee, and with chipped dishes.

28/08/2026: Go and try some delicious cakes at BAUD! That's what a friend told me when I asked her for a good place to find pastries in Besançon. She was absolutely right, and I'm very grateful for this excellent recommendation. You absolutely must try their "Castel" cake! That said, don't get me wrong: all their cakes looked very tempting.

10/08/2026: The restaurant specializes in catering to group meals. Because I was quite hungry, I ate a lot. The food was okay, but there was too little meat and too many vegetables. The soup tasted a bit strange and wasn't very good.

23/08/2026: A great place to meet up with friends; the coffee and pastries are delicious. Conveniently located in the city center, and the staff is friendly. I'm a regular.

08/08/2026: My wife, our two daughters, and I went to dinner on a Friday evening in August at the recommendation of the very kind staff at the nearby hotel. As soon as we arrived, they sat us at a table and left us there for 20 minutes without paying any attention to us. Meanwhile, other customers arrived, sat down, ordered, and were served. When we tried to ask twice, the waitress turned away without even answering. After 20 minutes, when yet another group that had arrived after us was served, we got up to leave. We tried to ask for an explanation, but the lady at the cash register yelled at us to leave, saying she didn't care about us. I've never experienced such rude treatment.

21/07/2026: I've been to this establishment several times. I've always had a good meal there. Today, July 21, 2026, I was very disappointed. The bread was very, too, dry. I had a hamburger with a tiny side salad. The hamburger bun wasn't great. The sauce was rather bland and lacked any real flavor. Finally, the fries were dry and sometimes burnt. I didn't dare order dessert for fear of being disappointed, even though they used to be so good (for example, in the fall of 2024, a delicious chestnut cream dessert). What's going on now? I don't know. I hope and wish that the food at this establishment will regain its former glory. It's up to them to rise to the challenge.

10/07/2026: July 10, 10:49 AM. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but I just wanted to ask the waitress if ice cream was available. I didn't even get a chance to say anything before she brushed me off like a dog. "We're not open yet, madam," she said in a very unpleasant manner. I regret not putting her in her place. First and last time I'll ever set foot in that place.

01/08/2026: A tourist trap whose only redeeming features are its location on a pleasant square and the absolutely charming waitress. But bland and overpriced for what it is. Avoid it. This kind of establishment does not do justice to this beautiful city.

26/06/2026: Avoid at all costs 😱 We arrived as a group of five for drinks on the terrace, asked for an extra glass of water, and were told, "We don't have that" 😲! Uh… okay! As we were leaving, the table next to us had clearly received their glass of water; it must be a matter of personal preference!! And for the price… I don't understand… especially given the heat we're experiencing right now. I can see why there are bad reviews! We won't be going back, that's for sure!!

17/06/2026: My boyfriend and I went for a drink at La Fontaine on Saturday, June 13, 2026, around 8:00 PM (we were seated at an outside table against the bar's facade, to the left of the entrance). We consumed very little, and despite this, we don't remember what time we got home or which areas we passed through. These memory lapses are in no way consistent with being drunk. We experienced frequent vomiting during the night, dizziness, episodes of tachycardia, and significant anxiety. We believe we were unknowingly drugged with GHB, and some of the effects persist for several days afterward. This message is being written as a precaution to inform management that some individuals with malicious intent might frequent the establishment. We simply wanted to bring this situation to your attention so that you can remain vigilant.

08/06/2026: Only conditionally recommended for transit. Breakfast was okay, but the hotel is dated and doesn't look the cleanest. There don't seem to be many motorcyclists in the area; strangely, there were two flat tires (holes) on two different bikes.

19/05/2026: December 2024 I still think about my experiences at this restaurant to this day, which is why I feel moved to write this review. During my very first visit to France, I had the pleasure of dining at Le Bersot de l’Orient. I was staying nearby, and it became my go-to place throughout my two-week stay. I visited frequently; for brunch, lunch, dinner, and even supper. I also dined both alone and with friends, and each visit was memorable. Across every visit, the food was consistently delicious and deeply satisfying. Hailing from Singapore, a tropical island where I am more familiar with Southeast Asian cuisine, dining de l’Orient was new and exciting. At the same time, the flavours were unexpectedly nostalgic. During the winter months, the meals felt especially warm and hearty. I looked forward to the food to restore me after a long day of walking through the city. It is simple in the best way: honest, filling, and full of comfort, making it an excellent option for both lunch and late dinner. On one occasion, I brought a group of around twelve people, and we shared platters together. The atmosphere was lively yet easygoing, and it became a natural gathering point before continuing our evening plans. Dining here worked just as well for quiet meals as it did for group outings. I also appreciated that the food served is halal, and that the establishment is Muslim-owned, which gave me comfort as a Muslim diner. The washroom is clean and spacious. There is a bar area separate from the kitchen, and while alcoholic beverages are served, it is clearly distinct from the dining space -- something I note for Muslim patrons who may prefer to know. The restaurant itself is not extravagant, but it is warm, cosy, and memorable. It is located in a very walkable and convenient area, making it easy to return to throughout a stay in the city. The surrounding streets add to the atmosphere, especially in the evening when everything feels softly alive. I am deeply thankful to the Le Bersot de l’Orient team for taking such good care of me and for feeding us so well during my stay. These meals brought both comfort and joy during my time in France. More than just food, they were quiet moments of grounding in a foreign place, and they remain with me still. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area. I wish them continued success, and many more years of serving food that brings people the same quiet comfort it brought me. Merci beaucoup.

28/08/2026: 🍽️ A great spot in Besançon! During our visit to Besançon, we stopped at Madigan’s for lunch, accompanied by our little dog, who was very welcome. We enjoyed the shaded terrace, which was particularly pleasant, with plenty of space between the tables for a comfortable meal. We chose the Comtois platter, which was very good and generous, as well as the Madigan’s salad, which was equally delicious. The cuisine perfectly showcases regional flavors. Special mention goes to the staff, who were helpful, professional, and attentive. We wholeheartedly recommend this place for lunch in Besançon, to enjoy a pleasant terrace and have a great time. 👍
