07/07/2026: My wife and I have made it a tradition to go to Barneville-Carteret once a year. We know the restaurant Le Cap and have enjoyed coming there every year. For the first time, we were very disappointed by the quality of the food. My wife's beef was too salty, and I ordered grilled lobster. Of course, there are management and profit margin considerations to respect in a business, but for the price quoted, the lobster was small… and I don't think it was grilled but only baked. (In any case, it didn't look like grilled lobster.) The side dishes (vegetables) were not up to par… the ratatouille was mediocre, even, I would venture, industrial, given the texture of the eggplant, and as for the presentation of the purées… grainy in one case and plain in the other. I don't know if it's the same manager, and/or if management's instructions have changed, but it was disappointing. Fortunately, the front-of-house staff are still as kind and professional as ever, and the setting is just as pleasant. It's a shame about this sour note…

05/07/2026: We had a wonderful lunch together at this establishment where we received a warm welcome. The food was excellent and served in a beautiful dining room. A place to remember for any lover of fine cuisine. We will be back.

14/07/2026: Very modern and minimalist decor, spotless. The only downside: the seafood menu is listed on the website 🦞. However, when I went to order, I was told, "We no longer serve seafood." WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT, AS I WAS GOING THERE SPECIFICALLY TO EAT SEAFOOD 🙄🙄! On the other hand, I have no complaints about the friendliness of the owner and his staff.

08/08/2026: This incredibly good seafood specialty restaurant has the most amazing menu. We went with a big family group ( 25 people) for a big birthday meal one Thursday afternoon. They were so accommodating. They made the whole set menu gluten free for me ( I am a diagnosed Coeliac) . The service a and quality was fine dining level. The chef came out to meet us afterwards. We were there for nearly 4 hours. There was no sense of rush and the staff were lovely. The views out over the beach and the ocean were great, made better by exceptional weather and visibility. Highly recommended if you love sea food.

05/08/2026: Excellent restaurant…a delightful surprise! Refined dishes, daily specials…for this review, a selection of fish dishes (market-fresh) from appetizer to main course. Pleasant and professional staff, the owner is attentive and helpful. Homemade ice cream ❤️ Finally, an incredible panoramic view of the Pirou foreshore… For those who haven't been, go! 😉 One of the best restaurants in the region… Reservations highly recommended

15/05/2026: So, we didn't actually eat because we arrived at 12:55 PM and still hadn't been served by 1:45 PM, and we had to be back at work at 2:00 PM! So we went back to work without having eaten. What a great brasserie! UNACCEPTABLE. First and last time I'll ever set foot in there. The organization needs a serious overhaul.

03/05/2026: I rarely leave negative reviews, but in this case, I feel it's important to share our unpleasant experience at this restaurant. We had lunch there today. After waiting an hour for our food, we were very disappointed with our choices. The chef's suggestion, the "seafood stew," was reduced to fish crumbs on a bland purée. The burger was unremarkable, and we shared a single individual bun cut into four pieces for the whole table. We didn't even bother with dessert; it wasn't worth the effort. A ruined family meal.

01/05/2026: We had an incredibly delicious meal!! Service and friendliness were top-notch. Excellent value for money. The view from the terrace of the Basilique Saint-Gervais d’Avranches is breathtaking. The menu on the tablet (in multiple languages) is clear and easy to use. This restaurant is highly recommended!!

27/06/2026: We stopped by chance and had a lovely time. The food was more than decent and the service was simply amazing. It's so rare these days to be treated like that.

25/06/2026: We ordered two beef tartares. We were brought an empty salt mill, a jar with two small packets of ketchup, and an empty Worcestershire sauce container. When we pointed this out, we were simply told they were out, without any suggestion or apology. Several servers then asked if we wanted them to go and get more, rolling their eyes whenever we had the misfortune to say yes. This struck us as odd: it shouldn't be the customer's responsibility to ensure the ingredients for a dish are available. A waitress was eventually sent to a nearby convenience store but returned without having found any sauce. When it was suggested that we look for another option, perhaps at a nearby shop, no real search was undertaken and no apology was offered. Unfortunately, the situation worsened when we explained that we didn't want to eat our tartare under these conditions. Instead of a courteous exchange, we were met with unpleasant remarks and a defensive attitude. The waitress explained that she herself ate her steak tartare without Worcestershire sauce, that in her opinion, this sauce played no particular role in terms of hygiene, that it served only to add flavor, and that many restaurants prepared their tartares without it. When we expressed a different opinion, she replied that we weren't going to "teach her how she does her job." The final straw came when we explained that we found it regrettable to be treated as demanding, even rude, customers when we were simply asking for a solution to a problem for which we weren't responsible. Her response was: "Well, you are!" Beyond the lack of sauce, it was primarily the lack of professionalism, the absence of apologies, the refusal to find a solution, and the tone used that deeply disappointed us. Finally, there was no gesture of goodwill or apology when it came time to pay the bill, just the card reader thrust in front of us at full price. If the job of a waiter consists of contradicting the customer, refusing to question anything, and disrespecting them when they express legitimate dissatisfaction, then we certainly aren't going to teach you how to do your job. However, if this job involves courtesy, a sense of service, and respect for the customer, then clearly there are a few reminders to be made. An experience we will not be repeating.

22/07/2026: On the plus side, the lamb chops and mashed potatoes were very good. The pink oysters from Mont Saint-Michel were excellent. The cheese course was very generous. Areas for improvement? There was a problem with the pricing consistency between the à la carte menu and the set menu, which includes the à la carte dishes. The shepherd's pie had too little meat. The surprise omelet had an unpleasant texture. The service was friendly.

22/07/2026: Perfect. We had dinner here at sunset. The dry aged steak was among the best dishes I had. Would definitely recommend.

10/05/2026: I had an absolutely perfect stay at the Hotel Les Fuschias in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. From the moment I arrived, I felt right at home thanks to the exceptionally warm and attentive welcome from the hosts. I loved the hotel's authentic charm, its refined and intimate atmosphere, and the peaceful rooms, which allowed for true relaxation. The excellent bedding contributed greatly to the quality of my stay. Breakfast was delicious, featuring excellent local products, and served in a beautifully decorated room. I was also struck by the beauty of the garden, a true haven of peace and serenity. The location is ideal, right next to the restaurants and shops of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, making it easy to get around on foot. I sincerely wish I could have stayed longer, as the atmosphere of the place is so pleasant. A truly wonderful place to stay, and I will gladly return.
