14/08/2026: Wow. For me one of the special elements to visiting France is cafe life. Pavement coffees. The versatility of the French Cafe, where coffee expands into beer, food, good wine and culture. In Rouen there is no better cafe that the gorgeous art deco Metropole. Atmospheric, lovely coffee & food and a wonderful people watching spot as locals and tourists alike come & go from the close by station. The Croque Monsieur is superb. If you are in town this is a must sit and experience.

05/08/2026: Wednesday, August 5th, 5pm. You sit down, the waitress looks at you, you stay for 10 minutes, she doesn't come to see you... You leave!

05/05/2026: Perfect place. My first step into your establishment reminded me of those quintessential places you find in different countries. Your down-to-earth nature makes the experience even more enjoyable. It's a welcoming place, but above all, the food is delicious. The juices, the coffee, everything is perfect. Places like this are rare. Living just around the corner, I want to come every day!

09/08/2026: This is a restaurant that takes itself very seriously. The staff are impeccably turned out, and the atmosphere is reverential, so smiles are in short supply. We were solemnly presented with what looked like a menu, but since there is no choice and the food is a secret until it arrives, it turned out to be a directory of suppliers. When I asked for a glass of wine, I wasn't allowed to see the list or choose it myself - the sommelier asked what style of wine I liked and then made the choice for me; it was delicious, but I did feel rather deprived of any agency in the selection. We felt rather sorry for the waiter whose job was upselling an additional course, for which he had to open a tin of caviar to tempt diners into an upgrade from the menu and budget they had already chosen. The food is a work of art, with every attention to detail. Our three-course lunch was generously supplemented by a beautiful array of amuses bouches beforehand, delicious bread with good olive oil and home-made butter, and petit fours with our coffee. Everything is announced in great detail by the waiting staff. The starter involving smoked mackerel and aubergine had a rather dark taste, and although it was very elaborately garnished, I would have preferred something fresh and green to the strange black spidery fibres which were arranged on top. The main course was pollock, beautifully cooked, with a tasty source and a small arrangement of miniature vegetables. The rhubarb dessert was delicious, especially the ice cream at the centre, and again, impeccably presented. For such a high-end restaurant I found the chunky pottery on which it was served rather ugly, though the wine glasses were fitting to the splendour of the wine. Thanks to the chef and all the team for the level of care and attention which went into this detailed culinary presentation.

08/08/2026: The kitchen was a treat to watch create our menu. We had the privilege to sit near the window and watch how the evening service was prepared. A fine dance that started off slowly and quickly sped up to a quick waltz.

27/08/2026: We wanted a quick lunch without spending a fortune. We ate some excellent biscuits and drank two good beers. I recommend it.

27/08/2026: A truly delightful spot in the heart of historic Rouen. The welcome was fantastic, the staff incredibly friendly, the menu pays homage to Rouen's most famous landmarks, the galettes and crêpes were wonderfully generous, and the bill was more than reasonable! A well-deserved 5 stars.

23/07/2026: We visited this restaurant for lunch and had a really good time. We chose the €11.50 menu, which included a savory galette, a sweet crepe, and a green salad: everything was delicious, well-prepared, and generously portioned. We then accompanied our lunch with an excellent 75cl bottle of Cedro, priced at €13, which proved to be a great choice. The staff was very kind, helpful, and attentive, helping make the experience even more enjoyable. I'd happily recommend this place for a tasty lunch with good value.

02/06/2026: After descending from Sainte-Catherine Hill, we were looking for a typical Rouen spot for lunch. Our guardian angels (and the Petit Futé guidebook) guided us perfectly! A unique, wonderful place; everything enchanted and amazed us... Location, welcome, style (Mucha, Klimt!), ambiance, service, music... Real cuisine, a true chef who knows his craft; a truly excellent find. We will definitely return to this magical place. Patrick and Evelyne, Moselle

04/09/2026: Tuesday evening was a busy time... We took the opportunity to chat! The meal was very good. The cod with virgin sauce was delicious.

14/08/2026: Never had a restaurant try this hard to make me not feel welcome. Food was good. They had the make sure the empty restaurant did not had reservations before we could take a seat and the servers gave us the feeling of being a nuisance from the first moment.

13/08/2026: Evening in Rouen. Dinner for two. A lovely place, chosen because it was also mentioned in the guide (L.P. of Brittany and Normandy). All the dishes were very good (we had Camembert roti, fish, ravioli, and chocolate dessert; wine and water). Very pleasant atmosphere. Excellent vegetarian options, too.

20/07/2026: Still as delicious as ever and the service was excellent

20/07/2026: Frankly disappointed with our lunch. After waiting for 20 minutes when there were very few customers, both dishes—paupiette and mashed potatoes—arrived completely cold. We had to send them back, and they replaced them. Then, the French toast dessert was neither soft nor fresh; it was still frozen. We also pointed this out, but... nothing came of it. It was the first and last time at this restaurant. I do not recommend it.

24/07/2026: Excellent tartare and side dish. The Marquise was also exceptional.

21/07/2026: This is the second time we've eaten at Gill's, ten years apart. It's always a precious experience thanks to the delicious food and attentive service.

23/08/2026: Exceptional food. The salted lamb was delicious, as were the cheeses and the other dishes we ordered. Unfortunately, the waiter who initially greeted and served us, who I believe was also the owner, was rushed and unwelcoming. Fortunately, a friendly and helpful young woman served us later.

14/08/2026: As regular customers, we are always warmly welcomed and well served, and the food is delicious. The team is dynamic and friendly.

13/08/2026: Generous portions of homemade gizzard and chicken liver salad. I highly recommend it. My wife and son also had salads that were excellent.

11/08/2026: We had the pleasure of discovering duck à la Rouennaise… what can I say except that it was delicious! Everything was prepared right in front of us, a real spectacle. Special thanks to our master duck chef and his sense of humor… (a bit of a mechanic at heart 🤭). We had a wonderful evening. I highly recommend it!
