21/12/2025: I highly recommend La Gabelle, located near the Maison Julien Gracq. I've been captivated by the place since I first discovered it. La Gabelle is inextricably linked to the memory of the writer. The Redureau family has cultivated a passion for the restaurant and hotel industry since 1965. Franck in the kitchen, and Brigitte and Laura in the dining room, now bear witness to this every day. I am charmed by the cuisine, my taste buds eagerly awaiting each and every occasion. This weekend, I experienced the joy of opening the curtains early in the morning—after a restful night in a very comfortable room—and discovering from my balcony the Loire River, Île Batailleuse, and its poplars so beautifully described by the author of "Les Eaux étroites" (The Narrow Waters). The Hostellerie de la Gabelle, by its very name, embodies a part of the history of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil. I thank the Redureau family for their warm welcome, the quality of the cuisine, and the comfort of the establishment!

14/11/2025: Great, very quiet place... This place deserves to be known and to develop to its fullest potential. The staff are truly lovely. If you're going to Cheffes (49), I highly recommend stopping by this bar/restaurant, Le P'tit Cheffes... My daughter enjoyed a truly delicious chocolate mousse with an Orangina. I had an Americano. The small terrace is really very pretty and inviting... The interior is a bit rustic and could use a little updating and a warmer decor, but honestly, when the food is of such high quality, and the staff are so pleasant, courteous, and incredibly kind, the decor hardly matters... So if you're passing through, don't hesitate to stop by; I highly recommend it. You won't be disappointed by the quality of their food.

23/11/2025: This restaurant has an original concept: an all-you-can-eat brunch on weekends, but suffers from a serious lack of organization and resources. The price is too high (€25.40) considering the limited selection at the buffet. Many improvements are possible: - Create three separate queues for serving yourself (starters/main courses/desserts) instead of one confusing and very long queue where people try to cut in line to serve themselves further down the line, which is disrespectful. - Reorganize the buffet with clearly defined areas for starters, main courses, and desserts. Currently, the dessert area is a bit of a jumble. - The dishes aren't large enough or plentiful enough for everyone to get enough. Servers have to run around constantly refilling the dishes. Cooling containers (like those used in traditional all-you-can-eat buffets) would be preferable to trays. - The dishes lack proper labeling and descriptions to identify what they are. This would be better to avoid the cook having to repeat the same thing 50 times and to speed up the selection process to prevent a long queue. Despite this, the staff were very helpful and friendly. A good experience worth trying.

12/11/2025: Traveling for work in this area from time to time, we went to OTO because I had fond memories of it. We ordered the Chrono menu, and frankly, the dish was rather basic (chicken and rice), a very simple choice, but the portion size was outrageous—far too small to fill us up. Luckily, there was bread. Honestly, paying €19.90 for a dessert, a mini gourmet tea (three small pastries), is a bit much. I don't think I would have complained about the price if it had been €14.90 for a main course and dessert, but they're really pushing the price of the menu. I know restaurants in the city center that are much cheaper, more generous, and just as good. The Chrono menu is best avoided.

11/02/2026: When I went to order, I wanted a smoothie. The menu stated 100% freshly squeezed fruit. (See photos) I asked to confirm that it was indeed made only with freshly squeezed fruit, but to my surprise, the cashier told me that no, bottled orange juice was also added. I questioned her, asking why it was listed as 100% freshly squeezed fruit on the menu. The cashier didn't seem bothered. Paying €5.50 for a "homemade smoothie," as advertised on the menu, only to receive bottled orange juice is, in my opinion, false advertising. No one questioned their practices. 02/12/2025: The welcome was cold; you get the feeling only regulars are welcome, which is a shame. I'm not used to mass-produced food, as you mentioned in your reply. My harsh rating stems from the fact that the welcome and service are just as important in a restaurant as the food itself. Once you understand that, you'll have made a lot of progress 😄.

09/02/2026: A very mixed experience indeed... the cooks are extremely unprofessional; we were subjected to foul language and inappropriate conversations between them while we ate. Kitchen utensils were dropped on the floor and immediately reused without being washed. I was very disappointed with the experience; I feel this establishment has declined significantly in quality. I will not be returning.

20/01/2026: A wonderful summer evening at d’n IJsvogel: a lovely terrace with a very relaxed atmosphere. The food is excellent: honest, reasonably priced, and plenty of choice. The prime rib is highly recommended, and the coffee is delicious. And above all, a wonderful, timeless atmosphere. We’ll be back :-)
