21/12/2025: Well, finding an open restaurant on Sunday, December 21st, in the south of Île d'Oléron, seems like a near-impossible feat. The café on the square is open, the welcome is warm, and the service is impeccable. A simple and pleasant moment. A hamburger and fries, a glass of Bordeaux, a coffee, and that's all it takes.

17/10/2026: We enjoyed the daily special on a Saturday at lunchtime. The seafood casserole was truly delicious, as was the starter, which came with a lovely side of vegetables. The fries, like everything else, were piping hot, crispy, and not greasy at all. Friendly service. A great place. They also have homemade pizzas. We'll be back.

27/09/2026: Arrived first at noon. My wife, who has stomach problems, asked for fries without peppers or onions. The waiter's response: "You're being difficult." Adding, "You've come to the wrong place, I'm being direct." Ordered white wine, received rosé. With 16 people: 1.5 hours for the set menu. Asking for coffee resulted in a 20-minute wait... I had an order to take... In short, a shame about this blunt, disrespectful manner, which is far from the standard of service.

Let's hope a restaurant professional takes it over and restores its former glory... ---------------------------------------------- A small addition to my 2021 review below: my wife didn't tolerate the meal well (food poisoning or indigestion?). Please pay attention to the freshness of the food...and the cleanliness of the premises. Still hoping that our 2021 experience is now just a bad memory. ---------- In 2018 and 2019, we had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant several times. It was delicious, and the menu offered a wide selection. Unfortunately, the change of ownership has likely also brought a change of chefs: the gourmet menu has been replaced by a small laminated card, the choice of appetizers, main courses, and desserts is very limited, and the presentation of the dishes is minimalist and similar to what is served in large fast-food chains. Everyone (except me, stoic as ever) had finished their appetizers when the bottles of wine and water were finally served (after numerous requests). All is not lost: I understand that the current pandemic has severely impacted the restaurant industry. There is still hope that L'Ecailler will regain the vibrancy we once enjoyed. I hope we will have the opportunity to dine there again someday... but we will wait for glowing reviews before doing so. For now, we are nowhere near that point.

24/07/2026: A warm welcome, though the price-quality ratio might be a little high. The setting is pleasant, and the view of the harbor is fitting, as one would expect on Île d'Oléron. The quality of the food served is good, and the seafood platter we ordered was exceptionally well-prepared. The service was attentive and professional.

27/05/2026: If you want a great meal, this is the place to stop! I've been under construction in the area for about two months, and I eat here every lunchtime. Never a single mistake in the kitchen! Meat and omelets are always cooked perfectly. The pizzas are generous and delicious. I especially love the fish and chips and the Saint-Marcellin fondue. The service is always excellent, with a smile and friendly service! They're always responsive and attentive to their customers. Thank you so much, please don't change a thing! Luckily, I'm still under construction in the area for a little while longer.

25/05/2026: I never miss the pleasure of stopping for a coffee when I go shopping because it's a friendly place and I always enjoy going back; the owner and staff are lovely people.

29/08/2026: I can't give zero stars, so I'm giving one. The waitress was incredibly rude. I ordered mussels and fries, and they still hadn't arrived after an hour, while all the other tables around me were being served. The waiters didn't even look at the dining room, and after several requests, there was no apology or explanation. I left without eating, feeling sick to my stomach! Disgusting! Absolutely avoid this place.

13/10/2026: Mediocre; the dishes arrived cold and the quality was lacking. The only good thing was the island beer. As for the rest, the cafeteria of any French middle school would be more than adequate. What a shame!

23/10/2026: Fantastic restaurant! We thoroughly enjoyed our meal: savory crepes as a starter, grilled chicken with fries and salad as a main course, and then a delicious slice of chocolate cake with whipped cream for dessert.

03/10/2026: Great location. It's a shame the welcome and service are absolutely appalling. And on top of that, they openly complain about being overwhelmed with only 7 customers. You should have chosen a different profession, madam... Oh yes, I almost forgot, a glass of water costs €1. Avoid at all costs!

27/09/2026: A very negative experience at Le Calumet in Pontaillac. The meat was extremely tough, full of gristle, and frankly inedible. The service was cold, and the staff acted like they were bothering them. An establishment to avoid. For a starter: 4 whelks and 4 shrimp

29/10/2026: We ordered two pear Belle Hélène ice creams. 10 euros each… Served in a jam jar with whipped cream. Very good, but ridiculously small for the price—it's a rip-off! The crepe was perfect, the service was excellent, and the waiter was friendly. Either they should halve the price or double the size of the ice cream! At Le Ponton in La Tremblade, the ice cream is 8 euros for double the size and just as good.

28/10/2026: I do not recommend it; despite a beautiful view, the food leaves much to be desired. I ordered a prawn risotto and received a cold dish with charred prawns and, as a bonus, a hair in my plate. For a dish costing €24, this is quite unacceptable.
