14/06/2026: We came for lunch without a reservation this Saturday, drawn by the charming setting and the tempting menu, as well as the good reviews. I don't know if we just caught them on an off day, but the welcome we received surprised and disappointed us. We first arrived at 12:30 pm, and the friendly Catherine told us to come back around 1:30 pm. We returned at 1:15 pm, and Catherine told me to go inside and ask the gentleman for a table. He immediately asked me, loudly and clearly in front of the entire terrace, "Were you the first one here, or did you cut in line?" Luckily, other people in the queue confirmed that I was indeed the first; it's very awkward to have all the other customers staring at me and to be accused of having cut in line. We were then seated at a tiny table at the back of the terrace, in front of a staircase, but delighted to be seated in such a lovely spot, we didn't say anything. Our order was taken 20 minutes later, and we waited patiently with a smile. Meanwhile, a group of nine people needed to be seated on an upper terrace accessible by the stairs behind our table. The owner approached us without a smile, an apology, or a kind word, and told us, "We'll have to move because we're blocking the way." I pointed out that our table was set up there and that we weren't responsible for blocking access to the stairs. Not wanting to cause a scene, we moved over with a smile and chatted with the neighboring table, who were appalled by the reception we'd been receiving. An hour later, our food hadn't arrived, and we asked about the status of our order. We were told that they were out of the chicken pie we'd ordered an hour earlier (we then saw a table that arrived after us, along with the nine other people, being served chicken pie...). So we ordered something else. Instead of apologizing for the wait and the change of order, the waiter served us by saying, "You're not dead, we have time here, we're not at Gare du Nord." Coming from the south of France, we're still trying to figure out what that was all about… The table next to us asked for a carafe of water, and the waiter shouted loudly, "A carafe of municipal water for this table!" It was so awkward that we didn't dare ask for one ourselves. When it came time to pay, a dish was added to our bill. My friend pointed this out, and when I tried to pay by card with my phone, I asked to see the amount on the machine. The man said, "Do you think I'm a crook?" It seems logical to me to see the amount before paying a bill that had an extra €19 dish added just two seconds earlier. The owner came over to chat with the next table, saying she was too busy, that too many people had been admitted, and that there were too many walk-ins. It's a shame because the place is really lovely, the food was good, but we couldn't fully appreciate it because of the atmosphere. We even gave up on dessert (which looked delicious) because the service was so slow. If you go, be sure to book and try to get a table on the downstairs terrace served by Catherine, who seemed very friendly.

23/06/2026: Pleasantly surprised! It seems there's been a change of ownership? Everything has improved!
Thank you to the new owners for the variety of their high-quality breads!! I especially loved the walnut loaf; it's rare to find walnuts that aren't bitter. They have a few other great ones, including their pistachio and sour cherry galette des rois (a bestseller). Oh yes, their chouquettes—I'm speechless!

28/06/2026: A pleasant surprise during a visit to Chantilly: A very warm welcome (smiling and very polite). The outdoor courtyard was lovely in the heat (though breezy). Our savory crepes were generous and delicious. Good value for money.

02/04/2026: A major disappointment for a dinner costing over €100 per person.
While the decor, inspired by the castle's interior, is remarkable and the drinks excellent, the food is mediocre.
For example: the grey shrimp (from frozen), the foie gras ravioli were completely tasteless... or the salty caviar was so overpowering it was almost painful to eat.
In short, more pretentious than delicious.

28/06/2026: I highly recommend this establishment. The welcome was incredibly warm, the managers were ready to meet all your needs, and from experience, it's the ideal place for a marriage proposal. The waitress had an ever-present smile, which made our meal enjoyable, and the local cuisine was fresher than in other restaurants. Thank you again for your hospitality, and I look forward to returning to eat at your restaurant.
04/06/2026: A huge disappointment. I booked for 12 people for my wedding. Two sweetbreads were very questionable, with very firm pieces that didn't resemble sweetbreads at all. Three sirloin steaks were very fatty, tough, and full of gristle. I think that, out of politeness, some of my guests didn't comment on their meals. The service was impeccable; the waitress and waiter were very responsive, friendly, and warm. I didn't eat my sirloin steak; it was too tough. I had asked for it rare. We didn't order any aperitifs or desserts; this had been arranged with the owner. However, we still consumed two bottles of red wine, one bottle of white wine, and one soft drink, for a total bill of over €70. This can compensate for the aperitifs. Changing the menu six days in advance is a respectful timeframe; we're not denigrating anyone, as you say. And we weren't an hour late; we were scheduled for 1:15 pm. If I round it up, we were 15 minutes late. I called to let them know.

16/05/2026: I don't usually leave reviews, but I was quite disappointed with our stay.
My partner and I are used to staying in high-end hotels (especially these past few months as we've been looking for an exceptional venue for our wedding), and unfortunately, a few things let us down:
- We couldn't get a table at the restaurant in the evening. We hadn't been informed in advance that a reservation was required, nor that the restaurant was already full. We found out around 7 p.m., and the reception staff seemed rather cold (the receptionist offered no help and was quite unfriendly). We therefore had to urgently find a restaurant open on a public holiday, even though we had planned to stay on the property.
- There was no refrigerator in the room, and only one bottle of water was provided. These are small details, but in this type of establishment, they make a difference.
- No help with luggage, which is quite surprising for a 4-star hotel (we were used to always having a valet at other establishments of the same type).
Overall: the castle itself is beautiful, but unfortunately, we expected a certain level of comfort that we didn't find (in terms of service, staff shortages, attention to detail, etc.).

05/05/2026: I rarely leave Google reviews, but the poor quality of this pastry shop compels me to do so. I have rarely tasted such bad pastries. I usually go to Tourbez in Gouvieux, but unfortunately, they are closed on Tuesdays. So, I opted for this highly-rated pastry shop in Chantilly. I bought Paris-Brest pastries, a crème brûlée, a chocolate éclair, a red fruit tiramisu, a rum baba, and some financiers. Basically, everything ended up in the bin! The crème brûlée had a lumpy texture and, of course, no vanilla flavor whatsoever. The choux pastry of the Paris-Brest and the rum baba were practically cardboard-like. The tiramisu was far too sweet, with a biscuit base that resembled sponge cake crumbs; it was detestable. The chocolate éclair was overly sweet and cloying. As for the financiers, they were vomit-inducing—a lump of sugar with no almond flavor. After the first bite, only a greasy sensation remained in the mouth! I don't understand why this pastry shop is still open… maybe for its bread?
