19/04/2026: We ate at Le Verre Galant restaurant, located on Place Saint-Vincent in the pedestrian center of Chalon-sur-Saône. The establishment boasts a large, furnished terrace with a direct view of the cathedral. Inside, the atmosphere is that of a brasserie. The menu clearly leans towards traditional French cuisine, with a nod to regional Burgundian specialties. We saw typical starters such as duck terrine with confit duck breast or poached eggs with Epoisses cream. The main courses follow the same theme, with dishes like eggs meurette, chicken supreme with Epoisses sauce, and more classic cuts of meat. We ultimately chose the butcher's cut with Roquefort sauce. The presentation was simple yet appetizing, and the portions were generous. The welcome was warm and friendly, and the service was professional and efficient. The drinks menu perfectly complements the meal with a genuine selection of Burgundy wines served by the glass, such as Rully, Mercurey, and Petit Chablis. It's a very good restaurant (offering unbeatable value for money) that we enjoyed for a delicious meal in the heart of the historic district.

16/11/2025: A terrible experience. No respect for the customer. I had a reserved table for four, but when I arrived... the door was locked! There was a light on inside the restaurant, but it was closed! I had left my number, but I wasn't notified.

07/03/2026: Huge disappointment. We had planned to have our civil wedding reception at Le Phoenix. We ate there at the end of January and discussed our plans with the owner, who told us it was perfectly possible. She explained everything to us. Excellent communication. All that was left was to give her a budget per person so she could send us menu proposals. This information was sent the day after our visit to Le Phoenix. I called back a week and a half later to make sure she had received my email. Receipt was confirmed, and she said she would take care of it. And here we are, a month and a half later, and zero news. Radio silence. No information. No explanation. Despite two follow-up emails and another via the contact form on the restaurant's website, we conclude (since we still haven't received a response) that she has decided she doesn't want to cater our wedding. The restaurant has been open for lunch during this entire time, so it should have been possible to contact us. It was the perfect place for us: the conditions, the location, the food, and the excellent recommendations from my clients. We are all the more disappointed. And we still don't understand why we never heard from them again. Even personal problems don't justify such behavior. An email or an automated message takes a minute. Anger and disappointment—that's our experience with the "new" management of the Phoenix.

19/04/2026: The food was really bad, I stopped at the entrance, the snails tasted like slugs, two prawns and 6 pieces of pineapple for €17, I really do not recommend this tourist trap restaurant.

17/04/2026: The sign said we were open until 11:30 PM on Wednesdays. We arrived around 10 PM, but the restaurant refused to let us in. The waitress asking us, "Are you French?" was very rude and disruptive. Honourable mention to the chef who directed us to a restaurant right next door; thank you very much to him. We weren't able to try the restaurant as a result, but please take the time to update the hours displayed on Google Maps to avoid this kind of inconvenience in the future. Thank you in advance.

25/11/2025: Starter: Canned mixed vegetables and deviled eggs—my mother's were so much better… Main course: Canned beans, dry, uncooked frozen cod, and sticky mashed potatoes… Dessert: Frozen cake and canned custard… The only thing that's even remotely decent is the wine, so that's something… It's getting worse and worse, and this is the last time I'll ever go to this place!!

14/11/2025: Excellent food, generous and flavorful portions for a set menu of starter and main course or main course and dessert for €21.90. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, highly professional, and always offered helpful advice, especially regarding wines. In short, I had a wonderful family lunch.

08/03/2026: Lunch on a Sunday at 12:30 pm. One hour for the starter, nearly two hours to finish the main course. The food was decent, if simple (the only side dish was dauphinoise potatoes). At 2:35 pm, after more than two hours at the table, we very politely asked if it would be possible to speed up the cheese course or move on to dessert. The response: if we were in a hurry, we should have said so when we arrived… and it's already a good thing the restaurant is open on Sundays. So we moved on to dessert: no fruit, unlike at other tables. When it came time to pay, the bill was incorrect. When I calmly pointed it out, the chef replied: "You won't be back anyway," then added that I would have been better off saying nothing since the Mâcon wine was more expensive. He then accused us of having changed the menu… confusing us with the next table. And concluded: "If you're in a hurry on a Sunday, go to McDonald's." “At 50, and after eating at many restaurants, this is the first time I’ve been treated like this. The food was decent, but the welcome and service were truly regrettable.” Everyone will have their own opinion.

28/11/2025: We were so happy to share a moment as a family. We enjoyed the terrace during the last days of summer and savored some absolutely delicious frogs' legs in cream sauce. Many thanks again to Alain for this wonderful time and to the waiter who was so attentive.

26/08/2025: A place you must know on the banks of the Saône, a moment of conviviality, go there with family or friends, they will all be amazed by a quality meal. A short stroll along the Saône will be beneficial after this gargantuan meal...

01/05/2026: We only dined at the restaurant, which was plentiful and very good. One small issue: some of the frogs' legs weren't cooked enough. The service was excellent, and the staff were pleasant. The terrace offers a lovely view. For a full meal, including aperitifs, wine, and dessert, expect to pay around sixty euros per person. A small but very sincere "Bravo!"

06/04/2026: We were passing through for the Easter Monday market. We arrived with a reservation at 1:30 pm. They let us go up to the terrace. If we didn't ask, they wouldn't take our order until 1:50 pm. The main courses were served quickly and were good. When it came time for dessert, there were no more choices; they offered us one scoop of ice cream or one small cheese. We thought, okay, it's the second seating, but as we were leaving, we saw the desserts (supposedly out of stock) being ordered from the kitchen. In short, they were taking us for a ride. When it was time to pay, we told the cashier, and she said, "Oh, they must have made more in the meantime." The tiramisu and chocolate mousse were made in 5 minutes—amazing kitchens! In short, they were taking us for a ride. Okay, it was busy, and there weren't enough servers, but there's a world of difference between that and being dishonest. In short, we won't be going back.

28/12/2025: We arrived by chance at 2 pm while looking for a place to eat. We received a warm welcome, both us and our White Swiss Shepherd. The daily specials were delicious, and the service was incredibly friendly. Our dog also loved Sissi, the restaurant's lovely schnauzer. Thank you!
