14/07/2026: I spoke to the owner on the phone; the reception was appalling. She told me there were no more tables available, but when I arrived, not a single one was occupied.

12/07/2026: A wonderful experience at La Boucherie de Challans! There were four of us, and we had a fantastic time from start to finish. The welcome was warm and professional, the restaurant is clean and pleasant, and the service was impeccable. We had a soft drink, main course, and dessert for just under €120. The portions were generous (with unlimited fries), the food was high quality, and the servings were excellent. We highly recommend this place for a great family meal. We'll definitely be back!

10/07/2026: Excellent place! The restaurant, located on the church square, offers a pleasant setting and a beautiful view of the Vendée countryside to the rear. The staff is welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The pizzas are delicious, as are the pasta dishes, all carefully prepared and generously served. We had a wonderful time in a convivial atmosphere. I highly recommend this pizzeria and will definitely return!

07/11/2025: Under new ownership for the past year. New layout, decor, and equipment. A very warm welcome from the entire team, and they were very attentive. Unbeatable value for money in Machecoul. Plenty of choice. A touch of history and a touch of magic. Located on one of the highest points in the area, the restaurant "La Croix Verte" sits at the crossroads of historical sites in Machecoul. *To the right of the entrance, the beginning of the Roman road to Fresnay-en-Retz. The village of Sainte-Croix (Machecoul didn't exist at the time). *A few meters away, the old church of St. John the Baptist and, before that, the first fortified wooden castle in Sainte-Croix. "And the road leading to Sainte-Pazanne towards the Saint-Lazare estate. This green cross was the emblem of the Hospitaller Order of Saint Lazarus (11th/12th century). The Order of Saint Lazarus still exists for humanitarian work. Several military orders were present in Machecoul from the 11th century onwards (Saint Lazarus/The Hospitallers/The Templars)."

12/04/2026: The pizzas were delicious. The grilled sea bass fillet was inexpensive and had an excellent beurre blanc sauce. The only downside was the noisy dining room because it was too small.

09/04/2026: The pizzas are very good and there's a great selection. Special mention goes to the Pavarotti and the five cheese.

02/07/2026: Disappointed because the sashimi slices were thin. I ordered their largest sashimi menu to get the maximum number of slices. There were indeed about thirty slices, but they were thin, about 2 mm thick! This means I probably had the same weight of salmon as a regular sashimi menu, but I paid more because there were more slices. Real sashimi slices should be about 5 mm thick and 4 cm by 3 cm. These were nothing like them. The miso soup and coleslaw were very bland, lacking any real flavor. Don't add tomato wedges if they're only there for color, especially if the tomato isn't ripe! The service was indifferent, without a smile. A restaurant that's only good for emergencies.

18/05/2026: We booked by phone for dinner on a Saturday night: the owner was very direct and not very friendly. The dinner was good overall, but I think our starters weren't homemade (I don't know about the desserts since we didn't have any). The portions were adequate. However, don't order the decaf! I saw that it was just powder and hot water. And I didn't see a coffee machine in operation.

15/05/2026: I'll definitely go back if I'm ever in the area again. Delicious food and impeccable service. We ate there two nights in a row and it was always just as good. The deviled eggs were delicious, the salmon perfect, the rice pudding a delight, and their strawberry soup was a hit with everyone. Go without hesitation; you're guaranteed a great meal.
