27/05/2026: We received cold service, no greeting, just a curt “Yes?” It took at least 15 minutes to get our two Diabolos. We quickly asked the person who served us for the bill because we were in a hurry, and she said she would pass it on. We heard nothing for 15 minutes and had to ask our server again to get the bill. No smile, no thank you, just a price coldly announced. Quite disappointing…

28/02/2026: An unpretentious establishment opposite the train station, but welcoming and well-run. We ordered salads, so it's difficult to call it gourmet cuisine. But they were good, fresh, and generously portioned for €14. Expect to pay €20 for a set menu. The service is friendly, even warm, making it a pleasant stop and a relaxing break before catching our train.

17/05/2026: Sunday, January 19, 2020: My wife and I, passing through Aix-en-Provence, decided to stop for lunch. Things went wrong as soon as we walked into the restaurant. First, the waiter pretended not to see us. I don't know if he was tired or had already received enough tips, but clearly, he didn't like the look of us. Finally, he came over to us and bumped into me (unintentionally, I hope), but without apologizing. One of his colleagues (who saw we'd been waiting for quite a while) ended up insisting we eat outside, which I refused: my wife and I were freezing. His response: "Pffffffffff! I have to clear a table inside!" No comment. Ten minutes later, we were finally seated next to a table that was being used as a garbage can for the rest of the room; menu in hand... After a good fifteen minutes (without having ordered), I decided to go to the restroom to wash my hands. And then... brace yourselves... a vision of utter disgust... even the restrooms on the highway are cleaner! It was filthy. I don't even want to imagine what the kitchens must be like... Leaving that rat hole, I couldn't get back to my table; the owner had decided to hold a work meeting in the same corridor and was yelling at his staff to anyone who would listen (at the same time, I don't blame him: his waiters are terrible). After several insistent "excuse me," I managed to get back to my table, and of course, no one had come to take my order yet. So we went to Pizza Papa, just a little further down the same avenue, where, on the other hand, we received: - a very warm welcome - a quick order - a short wait - good quality food - a lower bill In short, avoid Café du Roi René! Run to Pizza Papa!!

11/04/2026: AVOID AT ALL COSTS. DON'T TRUST THE REVIEWS. This restaurant is by far the worst place I've ever been. I still can't understand how it's still open. We went there almost two years ago, around 6:30 pm. From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere made us feel uneasy. The exterior, with its uninviting signs, should have been a warning sign even before we went inside. Once inside, we found a dimly lit bar area with a dog bone on the floor next to a bowl. The owner, who was in the conservatory with his MacBook, came to greet us. The restaurant was empty, which reinforced the strange feeling of walking into someone's home rather than a proper establishment. We ordered two Margherita pizzas. Imagine our surprise when they arrived… I'd never seen such a poor-quality pizza. Even two years later, it's hard to find the right words, so memorable was the experience, but I can assure you there's no exaggeration in what I'm saying. The pizza seemed frozen and had a particularly unpleasant taste, far from what one would expect from a restaurant. The owner asked for our opinion and seemed almost offended by our reaction. However, being two women alone in an empty restaurant, we didn't feel comfortable enough to express our dissatisfaction further. The price makes the experience even more incomprehensible: around €14.50 for a pizza of this quality (if my memory serves me correctly), plus €3.50 for cans of soda that we had to get ourselves from the refrigerator. A particularly high price considering the service provided. Unlike me, the person I was with finished her pizza despite its unappealing appearance and taste. She complained of abdominal pain the very next day. We left in shock after this experience, which we found both disappointing and unacceptable. It took us some time to find the right words, but we felt it was important to share our experience today.
