28/11/2025: A lovely discovery during our day in Agen. The waitress was very friendly and offered helpful advice. The food was very reasonably priced. A three-course meal (starter, main, dessert) came to €20.90 at lunchtime. I recommend it. The service was quick.

17/01/2026: We visited Restaurant L'Essentie last night with our good friends and neighbours Francois and Valerie to belatedly celebrate the New Year. At the end of the festive season he might think one celebration too many, but Pauline and her husband who is the chef never disappoint and served up a truly fantastic dinner to start 2026. Salmon en croute with mushrooms and Cavalo Nero cooked with incredible imagination and to finish pears poached in red wine with cream and toasted hazelnuts fantastic. Definitely the best restaurant around, if you’re looking for a quiet intimate place to enjoy master cooking we’re friends and family.

The service is efficient, pleasant, and always smiling, even when the waitress is working alone. A place that's definitely worth the detour! I'll be back (especially to finish the meal I had to cut short because of my partner's migraine...).

10/01/2026: €75 for a New Year's Eve menu Mediocre food No heating in the middle of winter!!! We would have been much better off at home, warm and cozy, with good food. Never again!!!!

24/01/2026: Finally, a chef who listens to the customer's taste. My meat was a delight, hot yet almost raw, perfect. Exactly what I wanted. A warm welcome, as if we were part of the family. Very pleasant. I came with my husband and a friend from abroad. She liked the menu selection. My husband liked the quality of the ingredients... Stay as long as possible, don't leave, don't sell out, EVER. The only downside is that the customers feel right at home and consequently make a lot of noise, talking loudly.
