19/01/2026: A mixed experience at this establishment. The restaurant is very beautiful, the decor elegant, and an elevator allows those who have difficulty with stairs to go upstairs to enjoy the pool table or simply use the restroom. The welcome is warm, and the staff are smiling and attentive. However, the quality of the food was disappointing on the evening we visited. The meats arrived cold, the chops were quite fatty, the sauces were bland, and the salad had no dressing. The staff took it upon themselves to send the dishes back to the kitchen without any difficulty so we could eat them hot, but unfortunately, this first impression was rather disappointing, as it's a restaurant specializing in meat, and we expected a delicious meal. The restaurant made a generous gesture on the bill and offered us a complimentary digestif, so perhaps we should try it again to avoid ending on such a negative note.

28/11/2025: The upstairs is perfect. Downstairs it's more like a cafeteria and noisier. It depends on your mood, upstairs or downstairs. Excellent service.

21/11/2024: Il y en a marre de ces restaurants qui vous proposent une salade césar qui n'en est pas une ! En plus des ingrédients qui compose cette célèbre salade c'est surtout la sauce qui fait tout ==> à base de parmesan râpé, huile d'olive, pâte d'anchois, ail, vinaigre de vin, moutarde, jaune d'œuf et sauce Worcestershire. J'ai eu un vague assemblage de crudités avec du poulet pané mais surtout avec une sauce industrielle... Beurk

11/11/2024: Bonne brasserie où nous nous sommes retrouvés en famille avec un nouveau né. Les serveur ont eu un accueil chaleureux et à nos petits soins notamment sur notre installation à l’étage avec la poussette, où nous avons été plus au calme. Au niveau des plats, rien à dire, c’était très bon, même si ça reste un budget + pour nous mais on sait à quoi s’attendre quand on arrive en bord de mer dans le PACA ! 😉

16/08/2025: A dinner... memorable, but not for the right reasons... If you dream of an evening where you're ignored upon arrival, where the music is slow (the musicians took more breaks than the music), and where the mosquitoes are the only ones really having a good time... then Gypsie Beach is for you! We arrived without a welcome—apparently, autonomy is in vogue. Once seated, we waited for the music, which finally started around 8:40 p.m., before the musicians regularly disappeared for long breaks. A live atmosphere, yes... but in homeopathic doses. As for the food, it was a bit of a lottery. The fish was frankly good—a real ray of sunshine. As for the rest, let's just say that the vacuum-packed supermarket salad needs no introduction, and the paella could have done with a little something... like flavor. The restrooms, meanwhile, offer an immersive experience in the world of minimalism: no soap, no towels, nothing. Fingers crossed that the hygiene in the kitchen is more inspired. And to top it all off, no measures against mosquitoes. You'd think they were the establishment's only loyal customers. In short: a beautiful place, but one that seems to focus mainly on the decor while forgetting everything else. Too bad! I hope this comment might be an eye-opener for the establishment's manager! And for those who read the reviews when they're hesitant about spending their evening there (mosquito-wise, it might be better to have lunch there than dinner). Really a shame, we had chosen this place to spend our last evening of vacation...

28/09/2024: Excellent cuisine, very friendly and attentive staff, all in quick service. We even take leftovers in case we don't finish the plate! The possibility of ordering pizzas (excellent and plentiful) is pure joy. I highly recommend. 👌👌👌

21/09/2024: I recently dined at L'Escalet restaurant and was very disappointed with the experience. I ordered octopus and polenta, but the octopus totally lacked flavor, and the polenta was a mess, completely liquid. It is surprising that such a poorly prepared dish is served. In addition, no atmosphere is created by the restaurant. They seem to take advantage of the setting of the port of La Ciotat, attracting tourists thanks to the night market, without worrying about the quality of their offer. These visitors will leave without even knowing the flavor of good polenta. The service was not up to par either. We were placed in a corner, not really taken care of, and the waiter spent his time making jokes about the tourists, rather than focusing on the customers present. It would have been more appreciable if he invested more, especially towards local customers who expect a minimum of quality on their plate. To top it off, when choosing desserts, we were assured that everything was homemade. Unfortunately, the dessert we chose was covered in industrial whipped cream, which was very disappointing. In summary, Escalet no longer meets expectations, both in terms of quality of dishes and service. I no longer recommend this address.

21/08/2025: First of all, it should be noted that this is no longer the restaurant "Le Chaudron" but rather "Le Capatapas," which has nothing to do with it. Having found this pleasant little spot, we sat down and chose an octopus salad. The salad arrived in a tiny ramekin, and we wondered if it was a joke. Furthermore, the octopus was inedible, three-quarters of the pieces being tough or rubbery. We mentioned this to the server, who made us choose another dish. It was a plancha of octopus and squid with parsley. The octopus was good, but the chili was too strong, which distorted its flavor, and more importantly, it wasn't indicated in the description. Since we don't like chili... As for the squid, it looked like yellow gnocchi (???) covered once again with coriander, even though it was indicated as parsley. So, Mr. Chef, if you don't know what What a persillade is, it's garlic and parsley. The kind of bitter juice the squid were swimming in made them inedible. We reported it to the waiter, who, fortunately, was really nice and friendly. He was sorry. The owner came to see us and said we were the first to complain, even though we'd been told the opposite five minutes before. These dishes are served on dessert plates with a more than questionable salad. Besides, when you see the man with glasses and greasy hair in the kitchen, it puts you off eating. All this for the modest sum of €18.90 per dish. A real scandal!! Stay away, it's truly a scam.

09/07/2025: Bakery known for its pastries and delicious sandwiches, nothing to complain about the quality. However, we are faced with a team of young people who are certainly friendly but incomparably slow. Everything is slow for not much and it's a shame, waiting more than 15 minutes to get a sandwich wrapped when there is hardly anyone there is distressing... and especially recurrent.

02/09/2024: Tucked away off the beaten path, this is a gem of a place. We got the fish of the day which was cooked incredibly well and flavorful with perfectly cooked vegetables, as well as the mixed salad. Trivially but of note: This is the only restaurant we’ve been to so far that has given us pitchers of ice cold water with continuous refills which offered us much appreciated respite in the hot weather. Wonderful vibes and service. Would definitely recommend!

21/01/2026: Is it cheap ? no. But you I can guarantee you that you gonna have very nice service, you gonna eat a traditional Bouillabaisse which is excellent, you will not go home hungry and you will have had a lovely dinner out. I was there last night with my parents, we were welcome inside even if a bit in advance, the chef discussed with us and was super friendly, as was the rest of the staff. They came back regularly to serve us more fish soup and ensure everything was going well, without being too intrusive. The food was excellent, the bouillabaisse as good as it gets with fresh fish and lovely flavours. If you are getting a bouillabaisse, you probably don't need a starter (they did have scampi a la plancha as special that night and we shared a portion, they were excellent with a generous garlic and parsley sauce) as there's a lot of food included and the staff will offer regularly a refill of fish soup. The dessert cart had lovely options too, the triffle was excellent, the Castel not as good as some other places I've tried (like Amandine) but overall very nice desserts too. Overall, excellent bouillabaisse, expensive (72€/head, overall bill of 382€ for 3 people), excellent selection of local wine (we had a white Cassis that was exquisite with the fish soup) and super friendly staff, so definitely recommended. Don't do the cheaper options around the harbour area for Bouilllabaisse, they have nothing to do with the quality you will get in the Ruhl.
