31/07/2026: We had a wonderful dinner at L’École du Chêne in Gargas and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Provence or the Apt area. The menu was brilliantly adapted to the season — and even to the heatwave — with dishes that felt light, clever, and perfectly suited to the exceptional hot weather. We both started with the vitello tonnato, followed by the tataki de bœuf: tender, beautifully marinated, and full of the thoughtful flavours Matthieu is known for. The wine list is exceptional and great value. I practically lost my husband to it for half the evening — it’s that good. Déborah & Matthieu, with the lovely Barbara helping them, create such a warm, relaxed, down‑to‑earth atmosphere. Their new setting in the old schoolhouse is charming: cool indoors for hot evenings, and outside under the trees it feels wonderfully romantic. We finished with the blackcurrant sorbet and apricot dessert, both sublime. A fantastic restaurant, excellent value, and a team who truly care. We’re delighted to see them thriving in Gargas.

27/07/2026: The meal was perfect. The ingredients were fresh and complemented each other beautifully. The waitstaff and the chef were both very friendly. There's a lovely spot outside in the shade, even when it's hot. I'll definitely be back!

24/07/2026: With a prior reservation, we were given a table inside, which was almost better given the temperatures outside. They were out of the daily set menu, so we ordered à la carte. There were four of us, and for starters, we ordered a zucchini tart and goat cheese tartare. Both were decent but a bit small. For our main courses, we had tagliatelle with olive sauce and a beef stew. Both were good, and I'd perhaps highlight the beef dish for being more original. For dessert, we ordered tiramisu, which we found rather mild. To drink, we had some Ambree-style craft beers, which were very good. A cozy place with a fairly neutral decor. The service was friendly and attentive, which is what we love about France. A place to return to and try the dishes from their set menu.

09/07/2026: Unfortunately our experience at this restaurant was bad. The food was ok, but sadly I can’t say anything special for anyone at the table. Upon sitting down at our table it became apparent the area was covered in ants so we requested to be moved. There was no interest in apologising for the inconvenience of this. Personally, if I had just had a large table inconvenienced and having to move with ants crawling on them, I’d have ensured good service for the rest of the evening (at least) or perhaps placed down some water, gratis. We were moved to the terrace area to a nice table but were then largely ignored for the rest of the evening. It is unorganised: no staff assigned to specific sections clearly. We spent most of the night trying to get the attention of the staff, as opposed to enjoying our experience. Would not reccomend. The setting is lovely but unfortunately the service let it down.

08/08/2026: Very friendly, we had a great evening by the water, and the misting fans were refreshing. The owners are nice, the only slight downside is that smokers and non-smokers are mixed together.

In short, it's a friendly, family-oriented, and welcoming place with a team that's both incredibly professional and incredibly kind—Christophe, Valérie, Prisc, Quentin, and everyone else. 16/07/2026: These fries deserve 20 out of 10!!! I've never eaten such delicious fries! They're doing something different here, and they're doing it incredibly well! I drove 14 hours from Germany for these fries and I don't regret a single minute in the car!

04/07/2026: lovely little coffee shop with delicious coffee and great options for dairy-free or vegan drinks! oat milk cappuccino was the best i’ve had in france so far, we also had matcha, filter coffee, espresso, latte and flat white, all of which were great.

07/07/2026: The setting is warm and inviting, the welcome is top-notch, and the owner is incredibly attentive from start to finish. You can tell she loves hosting, and that makes all the difference. The dishes are generous, prepared with quality ingredients and, above all, with a lot of care. As for the meat… perfectly cooked! I highly recommend it. For once, there was no need to play the "rare, medium, or well-done" game: it was exactly what we asked for. A place where you eat well, have a great time, and leave wanting to come back. Well done to the whole team!

27/07/2026: It was absolutely fabulous! For almost 30 years we've celebrated our family holidays there, and it's always a delight! The food is delicious, prepared with quality ingredients, the service is always outstanding, all in a friendly, family atmosphere. You can tell the team is passionate and very attentive to their customers. Children are treated like royalty. Thank you again for the wonderful feast yesterday.

28/07/2026: EDIT: from 1 to 5 stars downfall. Was told could enjoy a free ice cream or drink in exchange for a review. I said I would do it on my own. Then when showing the staff they refused to serve me the free drink. Hence my grade. Very poor customer service. On top of that, you can only order to take away on the tablet when there's plenty of seats available inside.

28/07/2026: Great establishment! The staff are friendly and responsive, and the dining room is relatively clean considering how busy it is right now. Furthermore, all the meat is now halal, a big step forward for the chain, which continues to adapt to modern tastes while maintaining its famous recipe, which is just as delicious as ever. I highly recommend it!
