04/01/2026: This bar has everything to be a great spot in Angers: well-located, spacious, rock 'n' roll vibe, wide selection of drinks... BUT (and yes, there's a big but), the service is appalling, unwelcoming if you don't fit their customer profile. It's not about causing trouble, behaving badly, or disturbing the other patrons, but apparently, on the owner's orders, you can quickly be labeled as having the wrong look. It's deplorable, and what bothers me even more is that they haven't grasped how staff should behave in the hotel and restaurant industry, or even in a bar. So, it's clear that their clientele is nothing more than a source of income for them. There's no consideration for the customers, no passion for the job. Some of them would be better off putting their checkered caps back on and going to work at Renault. At least they'd be up to the task. Honestly, avoid it.

So my wife attacked an excellent quail dish with her fork which had been used in the crab starter! On a gastronomic level it is disastrous and on a principle level it does not sit well with people. 21/12/2025: I highly recommend La Gabelle, located near the Maison Julien Gracq. I've been captivated by the place since I first discovered it. La Gabelle is inextricably linked to the memory of the writer. The Redureau family has cultivated a passion for the restaurant and hotel industry since 1965. Franck in the kitchen, and Brigitte and Laura in the dining room, now bear witness to this every day. I am charmed by the cuisine, my taste buds eagerly awaiting each and every occasion. This weekend, I experienced the joy of opening the curtains early in the morning—after a restful night in a very comfortable room—and discovering from my balcony the Loire River, Île Batailleuse, and its poplars so beautifully described by the author of "Les Eaux étroites" (The Narrow Waters). The Hostellerie de la Gabelle, by its very name, embodies a part of the history of Saint-Florent-le-Vieil. I thank the Redureau family for their warm welcome, the quality of the cuisine, and the comfort of the establishment!

16/11/2025: Sunday, November 16, 2025. I was walking past this hotel with my dog ​​on a leash; a large dog forced its way into the restaurant and attacked mine. A young man came out and stood there, saying and doing nothing. I was pulling on the leash to separate the dogs when another man came out and finally called his dog back. He brought it inside without a word, without even looking at us. No apology, not a word of sympathy. According to some sources, this isn't the first time, so there's a good chance it will happen again. If you're passing by, run away. A hotelier without an ounce of common sense is not a good businessperson.

09/12/2025: Delicious croque-monsieur with lots of flavor! Homemade food right in front of Saumur train station! Convenient!

14/08/2025: RUN AWAY. Last Monday, it was 35 degrees. I went into this sandwich shop (where I've been eating for 14 years, often being in transit in Saumur) and asked for a cup of tap water. The manager refused, and I explained that it was mandatory (https://www.service-public.fr/particuliers/vosdroits/F22387). It didn't work; he spoke to me while pointing his knife at my nose. I then told him (I was almost begging at this point) that my cat was getting dehydrated (she was panting, I was very worried), but he didn't care at all. He scared me a little by continuing to wave his knife at me, so I left. Luckily, the lady at the station relay (where I usually avoid going to keep small businesses like 2 minutes d'arrêt running) helped me out! Positive point: this is only the second time in my life that I have been refused tap water (the last time was in Paris)

17/09/2025: Supermarket restaurant but with perfectly decent food, dishes served hot and quickly. A perfect offer. We forgot our carafe of water and bread and the waitress seemed shocked that we didn't order dessert ("Is that all?"). I ate a delicious AAAAA andouillette with very good fries and salad and my wife had a slightly overcooked tuna steak. We were in a hurry and didn't have time to taste the desserts. The manager seemed competent and pleasant.
