07/06/2026: The salmon tartare, beef tartare, and Welsh rarebit were very good, but the service was a bit slow... a shame.

06/06/2026: Dining at this restaurant provided us with a bizarre experience. The starters were tasty, but the mussels were very small and quite tasteless. We initially thought the owner was very attentive; he pulled up a small table so we could enjoy the view of the church together during our meal. He did keep pointing out the view to us several times afterwards, and at one point, uninvited, he came and sat at our table with us, even though there were no other guests left in the establishment. His attentiveness turned into intrusiveness. He kept coming to sit at our table. We had the strong impression that he had had too much to drink. Then he even started asking my wife impertinent questions. I then asked him to leave our table and give me the bill. He suddenly became very angry and ordered us to leave the premises. New guests had just arrived, and he was briefly focusing his attention on them. I walked to the bar and asked for the bill again. He suddenly approached me very threateningly and pushed me very hard towards the door. He even continued pushing me outside on the street and grabbed me in a chokehold right in the middle of the street; he is a big man, and I am over 70. My wife shouted very loudly to bystanders to call the police. Then he let go and went back inside his establishment. We were quite shaken, but decided to leave it at that. We didn't pay either, not because we didn't want to, but because he apparently didn't want to. I don't think everyone will receive such treatment, but I really cannot recommend this restaurant.

The decor has character, the ambiance is convivial, perfect for lunch with friends or family. The service is truly top-notch: a smiling, attentive team that takes the time despite the busy pace of the service. You can tell that the customer is well taken care of, without any fuss but with genuine kindness. A place to remember in Roubaix, I highly recommend it!

19/07/2026: Superb place! Highly recommended for wine lovers, Simon's wine shop is brimming with hidden gems and small, independent winemakers just waiting to be discovered. Perfect for a little glass to enjoy after a long day at work. The lunchtime communal table is also exceptional, with truly sharing plates, simple yet delicious cuisine, all served in a very pleasant setting, ideal for chatting with your fellow diners! Always a wonderful time spent in this lovely haven. Simon's advice is always spot-on; it's a real pleasure. Thank you for everything!

25/08/2026: I don't believe for a second that these reviews are genuine. Yes, the place is beautiful, but the quality and service are appalling. The cutlery was just dumped on the table; the waitress held it by the prongs. I had to ask for a glass. It was a mustard glass, actually. My chicken and fries were terrible: dry, tasteless frozen fries with chicken that was also dry and tasteless. And the presentation was incredibly sad. No garnish, no sauce... So I asked for a sauce, and without being asked which one I wanted, they brought me a jar of sauce packets from some cafeteria or other, years past their expiration date. The price is far from justified.

18/07/2026: Honestly, everything was good. Including the recommended bone marrow. Since I'm used to tiny portions of fries, there was no need to ask for them with every dish, because we're in the north, and they're not stingy with fries at all. We arrived quite early, so we were served rather quickly. This gave us enough time to do some shopping at the outlet across the street.

23/08/2026: I came in this morning to try some sourdough baguettes, a croissant, and a pain au chocolat, and I wasn't disappointed. It's been a long time since I've had such delicious pastries. And the croissant—yum, airy and not greasy at all! A real treat. I'll definitely be back for a proper breakfast or lunch... see you soon!

11/07/2026: Disappointment. During my last visit, I was eating at the restaurant when I was served a dish in which I noticed two hairs. I pointed this out to the waitress, who took my plate away and then returned, saying, "I've removed them." So she had removed the hairs to serve me the same dish. I asked for a different dish, since my friends were already served. When I went to the register, I was asked, "Did everything go well?" I replied that it didn't and explained why. I received no apology or gesture of goodwill; on the contrary, I felt like my word was being questioned. So that was the last time I went there.

06/07/2026: I've been twice to this Wattrelos institution: the service is truly tailored to its customers' needs! The setting is lovely, with a pretty flower-filled terrace, and the atmosphere is very family-friendly and unpretentious: you're guaranteed a joyful and festive time here! The food is delicious and well-prepared, offering excellent value for money. The owner is charming and accommodating (I'm vegetarian). In short, the only problem is that once you arrive, it's hard to leave...

08/07/2026: We discovered Le Contemporain thanks to a deal on TheFork, and what a wonderful find it was! From the moment we arrived, we were captivated by the setting. The dining room is beautifully decorated, with harmonious color schemes and particularly pleasant lighting. The view of the kitchen garden, the restaurant's veritable larder, adds to its charm. The limited number of tables, perfectly spaced, allows for a calm, intimate, and refined atmosphere. The cuisine was flawless. From the amuse-bouche to dessert, each dish was a true delight. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the ingredients showcased with great skill. The cuisine elevates seemingly simple dishes thanks to remarkable expertise. The welcome and service were equally impeccable: attentive, professional, and warm. As for the wine list, it offers excellent choices that perfectly complement the meal. In short, we had a wonderful evening in an establishment that more than deserves its reputation. An address that we recommend without hesitation and where we will gladly return.
