05/05/2026: On the evening of April 30, 2026, my son, daughter-in-law, and I were looking forward to celebrating my birthday once again at La Maison des Tanneurs, a restaurant I have only fond memories of and have recommended many times. But what a disappointment! The sauerkraut was mediocre, the pike-perch tasteless... but the real low point was my vegetarian dish, which I wouldn't have dared serve to anyone at home: a mound of dry sauerkraut surrounded by bland or overly salty boiled vegetables, apart from two spoonfuls of cooked red cabbage. The overly sweet rhubarb tart had lost all its acidity, but the iced kougelhopf was good. What happened that evening?

08/05/2026: The meat quality was okay, but not exceptional. The vegetables were overcooked and watery, the fries were frozen, and I have my doubts about whether the peppercorn sauce was homemade or not. The owners are nice enough, but that doesn't change the feeling of eating at home. I don't pay more than €25 per person for a main course and a glass of wine to feel like I'm eating at home. Furthermore, there was no privacy, and the noisy customers weren't ideal for a romantic evening for two. Plus, it took an hour for our food, even though the restaurant wasn't full.

07/04/2026: I'm taking this opportunity to share my culinary experience at this establishment. We opted for the specialty, LA MATELOTE. Surprise!... a tiny portion of fish, overcooked pasta, a very noisy dining room, and a hefty bill. This is an experience I won't repeat.

09/11/2025: This morning I thought, for a change, I'll go to their place. I see fruit bread for almost €20 a kilo. Strangely, I don't see any fruit on top of the bread. I ask him, "Are you sure it's fruit bread?" "Yes, yes." I think the picture speaks for itself. ... I assume, of course, that it's not the same price as the seeded bread, not to mention the anorexic-looking Menele.

14/05/2026: We sat down to escape the rain; the coffee was good, but the service was extremely slow.

10/05/2026: A cramped, dirty place with rude staff. My husband and I wanted to stop for lunch, and we were given a very tightly packed table. Being pregnant, I wasn't comfortable, and my husband's chair was so close to the one at the table opposite that a very rude waitress pointed out that we should "move closer" to leave space between the tables, which was simply impossible. She didn't try to find a solution and showed no empathy whatsoever. She spoke to us in a disrespectful tone. Obviously, we left: we weren't going to stay in a place where customers aren't respected and where they cram too many tables into a small space just to make more profit. Avoid this place!

01/03/2026: A very warm welcome, a small chestnut and mushroom aperitif offered by the house. Impeccable service. The manager is incredibly friendly, she interacts with the customers and makes us feel at ease! The quality is frankly top-notch 👌 The portions are more than satisfactory! And the prices are very reasonable!! A wonderful discovery of this inn, and we will definitely be back!!! The sauerkraut was delicious, the ribeye steak was perfect, and the venison shank was excellent—the meat melted in your mouth, a real treat! I highly recommend you pay a visit to this inn; it's well worth the detour!!!!

12/05/2026: I just read a comment from a certain Ms. Schoech and I'm speechless... As a frequent customer of this establishment, I've always had Dominique as my waiter, and I've NEVER had a single complaint about the quality of his service as head waiter. Many people think they're above it all, but in reality, they're just bitter, unfriendly, and convinced they're gourmets. They need to take a good look at themselves, because it's not always the staff's fault. A little civility and courtesy wouldn't hurt many customers. ALL MY SUPPORT TO THE CHOU'HEIM STAFF!!! <3

12/05/2026: It's a shame the welcome at this establishment is nonexistent. We felt like we were bothering them from the moment we walked in. The service is sorely lacking in warmth and professionalism. The food is edible, but nothing special. For the prices charged, one expects much better, both in terms of the food and the courtesy. Avoid this place.

28/05/2026: Disappointed, the sauerkraut wasn't good, and the rhubarb tart wasn't fresh.

16/05/2026: A charming little restaurant tucked away on a quiet street in the city center! The decor immerses you in Alsatian traditions, the service is simple and very warm, and the waiter has a very friendly smile! The traditional Alsatian cuisine is delicious and generous... you wouldn't expect anything less from a true Alsatian... in short, a very charming place that I highly recommend if you're looking to have a pleasant time.

23/05/2026: A wonderful discovery nestled in the heart of Alsace! We came for the sauerkraut and the tarte flambée, and everything was delicious. The waiter was very pleasant. Don't hesitate to order your all-you-can-eat tarte flambée early, as the wait can be long if it's busy. We'll gladly return if we're ever in the area again. (PS: Bring cash, the card machine can be temperamental!)

23/05/2026: We have been loyal customers for a long time, but our last visit was a huge disappointment. The quality of both the food and the service has declined significantly. The pot-au-feu salad was mostly raw vegetables, with two tiny pieces of meat, all swimming in oil. As for the iced coffee… it arrived without ice, which is frankly baffling. In the end, the only truly unpleasant thing was the bill. It's a shame, because we used to enjoy this establishment.

28/05/2026: Superb location, magnificent view, very spacious rooms, very friendly staff, and spotless throughout the hotel.

26/05/2026: I stayed here with my dog during my through hike of the Vosges mountains. As there were not many other guests, we got a room upgrade with an amazing view! I loved the atmosphere, it's a little old but has a lot of charm. Really dog friendly and decent breakfast.

18/05/2026: Very good restaurant for the daily special

18/05/2026: The hotel provided a very warm welcome, and the room was very clean and comfortable. Special mention goes to the housekeeper who kept the room well-maintained and even provided an extra towel. However, the breakfast was disappointing for the price and lacked vegan and halal options. I was also a little disappointed to find a cracked and stained bathtub/shower, rather than a walk-in shower as shown in the photos for the superior double room.

24/05/2026: My parents and I come here occasionally during happy hour, and it's always been great: friendly servers, attractive prices, and good tarte flambée. However, I went back with some friends, and it was a completely different experience. The servers were incredibly unfriendly. They offered the terrace to everyone in front of me in the queue, but when it was my turn, they refused, even though there was still room. The wait to get the menus and have our order taken was quite long. I received a dirty glass and politely asked for it to be replaced, but the server practically snatched it from my hands and came back with another glass, this time without ice or lemon, as if to "punish" me for bothering him, even though it's their job to check that what they serve is clean. I'm giving it 3 stars overall because I really liked the place, but I won't be going back without my parents. I spoke with a friend, and she had the same problem with the unfriendly waiters; on top of that, they tried to rip her off during happy hour. Avoid this place if you're a young woman because they really treat us like idiots.

04/07/2025: A wonderful and magical place! With its fantastic location, the hotel is a true highlight. We are thrilled. The breakfast is plentiful and delicious – especially on the sunny terrace with views of the surrounding countryside and hills!

02/04/2026: A typical Alsatian restaurant. Excellent tarte flambée. The cordon bleu was a bit small compared to other restaurants. A little expensive for the quantity/price ratio, but good quality. Service was a bit slow.

22/12/2025: A wonderful discovery, delicious food and a warm atmosphere. The service was a little slow, but understandable given the number of customers. I really enjoyed the simple yet tasty dishes and the way we shared the meal.
