25/07/2026: July 2026: The establishment is closed. Let's hope a restaurant professional takes it over and restores its former glory... ---------------------------------------------- A small addition to my 2021 review below: my wife didn't tolerate the meal well (food poisoning or indigestion?). Please pay attention to the freshness of the food...and the cleanliness of the premises. Still hoping that our 2021 experience is now just a bad memory. ---------- In 2018 and 2019, we had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant several times. It was delicious, and the menu offered a wide selection. Unfortunately, the change of ownership has likely also brought a change of chefs: the gourmet menu has been replaced by a small laminated card, the choice of appetizers, main courses, and desserts is very limited, and the presentation of the dishes is minimalist and similar to what is served in large fast-food chains. Everyone (except me, stoic as ever) had finished their appetizers when the bottles of wine and water were finally served (after numerous requests). All is not lost: I understand that the current pandemic has severely impacted the restaurant industry. There is still hope that L'Ecailler will regain the vibrancy we once enjoyed. I hope we will have the opportunity to dine there again someday... but we will wait for glowing reviews before doing so. For now, we are nowhere near that point.

24/07/2026: A warm welcome, though the price-quality ratio might be a little high. The setting is pleasant, and the view of the harbor is fitting, as one would expect on Île d'Oléron. The quality of the food served is good, and the seafood platter we ordered was exceptionally well-prepared. The service was attentive and professional.

25/05/2026: The best Vietnamese takeaway (or eat-in) buffet I've ever had, a must-try for me for years when in La Rochelle. The staff are very competent and friendly, and the price is very reasonable. Refined cuisine. I highly recommend it.

08/09/2026: So I was ripped off by 10 cents. My receipt said €10.64, and they tried to charge me an extra 10 cents for a fancy sauce. The restaurant was infested with flies. The tables were dirty. I don't recommend this restaurant. There aren't enough staff in the kitchen. I would like a refund. Thank you.

07/09/2026: For once, a really good Mac Fleury chocolate hazelnut, and generously portioned; very often there's too little chocolate. Thank you! 👍👍

04/09/2026: The price is a rip-off and it's dangerous to go out. You always have to head towards the roundabout.

28/06/2026: One year later, the same observation. A real tourist trap! Gasoline 6 cents more expensive than on the island? For the champion of the cheapest, find the flaw in that logic.

20/03/2026: Now run by a super friendly and dynamic young couple, the decor and atmosphere have been tastefully redone. Great welcome, and fantastic pizzas—crispy on one side and soft on the other. Generously topped with quality ingredients, I highly recommend it! 👍👍 Thank you so much!

21/12/2025: Well, finding an open restaurant on Sunday, December 21st, in the south of Île d'Oléron, seems like a near-impossible feat. The café on the square is open, the welcome is warm, and the service is impeccable. A simple and pleasant moment. A hamburger and fries, a glass of Bordeaux, a coffee, and that's all it takes.

03/07/2026: An excellent place! The kebabs are truly delicious and the quality is always top-notch. The only slight drawback is that the portion size can sometimes be a little small depending on the day, but the exceptional taste more than makes up for it. I highly recommend it!

10/06/2026: The gentleman was very kind, we ate very well. The fries and kebab were very good.

23/08/2026: We were here on vacation and ordered pizza and burgers. The pizza dough was very good, soft and fluffy, and the mushrooms and vegetables were fresh and cooked on-site. The burger meat came from the butcher. I recommend this pizzeria run by friendly young people.

30/06/2026: Passing through Bourcefranc, I had an excellent "Reine" pizza this Tuesday, June 30th, at 9 pm. I'll definitely stop by again next time. Excellent service. Highly recommended.

25/08/2026: Like most of these places, the staff are everywhere at once, and things get forgotten almost every time you order. Forgetting fries is a real shame when you're using a drive-thru. And checking orders should be done by the staff, not the customer. Forgetting sauce, on top of everything else, is charged at 50 cents. It's not the price... it's the principle of charging extra for things that aren't included in the order. And if you have the misfortune of asking the server for your sauces, they just hand them to you without a word... it really makes you want to go back. Some are very friendly, others less so.

25/08/2026: On Saturday, August 22, 2026, I ordered a 280 TM Original with an extra charge for two slices of bacon. Surprise! No tomatoes, no onions, no bacon, just steak and cheese. Plus, there were only two people in the order; it wasn't crowded at all. I'm disappointed. I should have checked before leaving, but this isn't right. We trust them, I'm disappointed.

05/09/2026: Dirty tables and benches. Long wait (25 minutes). Overflowing bins... no toilet paper. Disappointed. However, the meal served was decent and hot.

29/08/2026: My wife has been vegan for 15 years. She ordered a box of veggie nuggets, and to our dismay, they were chicken. It's a disgrace! It's your responsibility to check this kind of unacceptable thing.

12/04/2026: Family atmosphere. Delicious and generous couscous. Good value for money.

15/03/2026: I ordered couscous for 7 people. The couscous was excellent, hearty, and generous. We thoroughly enjoyed it. The interactions with the restaurant staff were very pleasant. Thank you for your expertise!

01/09/2026: Two glasses of white wine from Île de Ré... 18 euros! The Americans are coming to the island now. Go to the other side, it's much cheaper.

29/08/2026: A great time to end the season, the 4 cheese pizza was excellent, as was the chicken salad.

29/05/2026: Hello, We arrived with the classic car club (50 people) on Pentecost Sunday at lunchtime. We were warmly welcomed by friendly and efficient staff who were very accommodating to customers' schedules. 👍 The meal was decent for the price. The decor had a slightly nostalgic feel, taking us back to bygone years.

06/05/2026: We ordered duck breast and got 5 slices with blue cheese sauce, presented like soup. Nothing special, really.

23/07/2026: Worst experience of my life. My trip to North Korea was more welcoming than this man who said "what's this?" when we handed him money. Furthermore, an employee tried to escape while the boss's back was turned. It's also worth mentioning that the boss insulted his female employee by shouting "shut up, you old hag!" Since this terrifying ordeal, I've been questioning whether life truly has any meaning. Run away!

28/07/2026: The square pizzas were very average in taste, quantity, and topping quality. A minor disappointment: I found string in my dough... I called the restaurant, and they kindly replied, "Sorry, I'll mention it to the chef..." LOL. Not to mention the tension between the person taking the order and the pizza maker—great atmosphere...

27/07/2026: Very poor value for money! Very expensive for what's offered! And very little consideration given to feedback (or even total ignoring); sometimes a simple "I'm sorry" or "I apologize" is enough to feel heard.
