Let's hope a restaurant professional takes it over and restores its former glory... ---------------------------------------------- A small addition to my 2021 review below: my wife didn't tolerate the meal well (food poisoning or indigestion?). Please pay attention to the freshness of the food...and the cleanliness of the premises. Still hoping that our 2021 experience is now just a bad memory. ---------- In 2018 and 2019, we had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant several times. It was delicious, and the menu offered a wide selection. Unfortunately, the change of ownership has likely also brought a change of chefs: the gourmet menu has been replaced by a small laminated card, the choice of appetizers, main courses, and desserts is very limited, and the presentation of the dishes is minimalist and similar to what is served in large fast-food chains. Everyone (except me, stoic as ever) had finished their appetizers when the bottles of wine and water were finally served (after numerous requests). All is not lost: I understand that the current pandemic has severely impacted the restaurant industry. There is still hope that L'Ecailler will regain the vibrancy we once enjoyed. I hope we will have the opportunity to dine there again someday... but we will wait for glowing reviews before doing so. For now, we are nowhere near that point.

24/07/2026: A warm welcome, though the price-quality ratio might be a little high. The setting is pleasant, and the view of the harbor is fitting, as one would expect on Île d'Oléron. The quality of the food served is good, and the seafood platter we ordered was exceptionally well-prepared. The service was attentive and professional.

04/09/2026: The price is a rip-off and it's dangerous to go out. You always have to head towards the roundabout.

28/06/2026: One year later, the same observation. A real tourist trap! Gasoline 6 cents more expensive than on the island? For the champion of the cheapest, find the flaw in that logic.

06/09/2026: I had a wonderful time at Flora Lab in the Wellness Gallery. A huge thank you to Sarah, who was absolutely fantastic from start to finish! So gentle, professional, attentive, and a great listener, she made me feel completely at ease and made the experience truly enjoyable. The service was top-notch, and I left feeling delighted and relaxed. Thank you again, Sarah, for your kindness, thoughtfulness, and professionalism. I will definitely be back and highly recommend her! ✨

13/07/2026: We didn't stay overnight. The dining experience was absolutely fantastic. The ingredients were very fresh, the dishes were perfectly seasoned and generous. The welcome was truly warm, thanks to a reservation, even though they were exceptionally closed at lunchtime due to the heatwave. We'll be back with other friends to introduce them to the warm hospitality of the Charente region.

28/06/2026: We visited a few weeks ago as a couple and again this weekend with friends, and we savored every dish. Impeccable service. The owner and his staff are very friendly.

20/03/2026: Now run by a super friendly and dynamic young couple, the decor and atmosphere have been tastefully redone. Great welcome, and fantastic pizzas—crispy on one side and soft on the other. Generously topped with quality ingredients, I highly recommend it! 👍👍 Thank you so much!

21/12/2025: Well, finding an open restaurant on Sunday, December 21st, in the south of Île d'Oléron, seems like a near-impossible feat. The café on the square is open, the welcome is warm, and the service is impeccable. A simple and pleasant moment. A hamburger and fries, a glass of Bordeaux, a coffee, and that's all it takes.

29/08/2026: I can't give zero stars, so I'm giving one. The waitress was incredibly rude. I ordered mussels and fries, and they still hadn't arrived after an hour, while all the other tables around me were being served. The waiters didn't even look at the dining room, and after several requests, there was no apology or explanation. I left without eating, feeling sick to my stomach! Disgusting! Absolutely avoid this place.

29/08/2026: Truly attentive and energetic service to help us relax. A wonderful time at this restaurant, the perfect way to end our holiday in La Rochelle. The food was impeccable. Thank you to the whole team.

09/10/2026: Overpriced seaside restaurant for the quality of service. Cold, industrial-style fries. Mussels lacking seasoning. Bland, dry crepes topped with a cheap, industrial chocolate sauce.

25/10/2026: I've always had problems with this McDonald's; there was always something missing. Or it was cold, or there was a 20-minute wait... This time, something was missing from the order. We went back, and they gave it to us for free. But the order was still disappointing. The fries were only half full. If I wanted a small fry, I would have paid for it, but that wasn't the case. As for the water... First of all, the color 🤢, but it also tasted bad... For water!!! There's always something wrong; it's a shame. And let's not even talk about the staff who once made an employee cry right in front of me. It's inhumane.

20/10/2026: Even the best-of burgers are getting smaller and smaller, you can no longer get the kind of sauce you want, like fries or ketchup, and there's practically no sauce for burgers like Big Mac.

13/10/2026: Mediocre; the dishes arrived cold and the quality was lacking. The only good thing was the island beer. As for the rest, the cafeteria of any French middle school would be more than adequate. What a shame!

01/09/2026: We stopped on the highway because there was a Paul restaurant. What a mistake. The woman taking orders at the counter is awful to everyone. We watched her behavior with the few other people after us. She needs to be fired from the counter. Put her in the kitchen; she might be better (but that's not certain).

01/09/2026: My God! What did we do to deserve such an unpleasant welcome? The lady didn't smile, her tone was more than military, very disagreeable! You surprised my husband and me so much that we just looked at each other and laughed! I know we're at a rest stop on the motorway, but we go to Paul's because we want Paul's! We were served our cappuccinos in orangeade glasses! I checked carefully, there were plenty of large cups available... well, frankly, that's not a big deal, but I don't want to be harassed when we're taking a break on the motorway. A gentleman came from the kitchen, all smiles and very friendly, a big hello. You should switch jobs! If you don't know how to handle customers, you shouldn't be around them. The kitchen is fine! In short: run away!

02/11/2026: On Sunday, November 1st, after a long walk, we were welcomed promptly. We wanted to eat outside in the shade, and the waiter brought us a table right away. Very pleasant. We were served quickly: lemon sole, turbot fillet, and a very good hamburger. The ice cream was excellent too. We recommend this restaurant.

10/10/2026: Friday evening in mid-October, the atmosphere was calm and relaxed. We hadn't been there for at least a year, and we were curious about the negative reviews. We had a good dinner (meat and fish) and the service was friendly and efficient.
